Thursday Community Event Preview

May 28, 2008 by pastapadre

I’ve made it in successfully to the hotel and wanted to leave a short preview of what is to come on Thursday at the community event. NCAA Football 09 and NFL Head Coach 09 will be featured for this day. I mentioned some things earlier but wanted to be a little more specific on what kind of coverage to expect. Feel free to add your thoughts and suggestions here or in either of the previous postings.

Check in throughout the day as I am hopeful that I’ll be able to live blog at different points right from the studio. Expectations are that we’ll arrive by 11am ET. At that point I’ll make sure to check on the connection from the room. Assuming things go smoothly I’ll leave a note giving a time to expect the first live blogging session (would probably give about 2 hours notice). If problems arise you just won’t hear from me until the evening unfortunately. I am looking at potentially two hour long live blogs with one happening during NCAA time and the other during Head Coach time. With the live blogs I would post comments on the games as I play them or watch others play as well as attempt to answer questions about them directly.

Once getting back to the hotel in the evening (should be around 10pm ET) I’ll be putting together the first reports on the games. I don’t know how long they will take to do, but they will posted up before I head off to sleep. Of the two games I’ll be spending more time with Head Coach but will have an opportunity to offer details on how NCAA may or may not have changed since playing it last month.

Hope everyone enjoys the coverage and make sure to check back frequently for the latest!

Can’t wait, I really want to hear about everything in head coach. If everything is working right and if theres anything else we haven’t heard about. Also to see how realistic player movement and such is

Thanks for all the hard work, Pasta. Can’t wait to see what kind of news you have to report on NCAA 09. Hope I get an invite to your online Dynasty. Maybe make a Pac 10 group? Any extra “news” you can provide on the Ducks would be great! Hopefully you have some good news about some upgrades/tweaks they’ve made to the game… I’m sure you’ll let us know!

Thanks, pasta! You must be pumped. Can’t wait for online dynasty. Madden is starting to show some promise as well which is exciting. Look forward to hearing form you tomorrow. GO HEELS!

I’m excited for the Madden 09 news Friday.

Again, try to find out if they’ll have accurate virtual faces for players that don’t have a picture or players you’ve drafted during franchise for Madden 09. I was very tired of seeing an outline of a player’s head instead of a picture. This question is of course for the next gen consoles (PS3 + 360).

    Thanks Bryan.

Oh, and also…if you have the chance to watch or play with a spread offense team in NCAA tomorrow, I’m interested to know how the “wide-open gameplay” benefits (if at all) this style of offense. It would kind of make sense if it did. Thanks again!

I just want to say that since Pasta Padre launched this web site, the information that he’s brought forth has been outstanding. And it reaches past this site. You see the impact at Operation Sports and others.

Pasta - you are owed a HUGE THANK YOU from all of us who so enjoy the sports titles, especially Madden and NCAA.

So many great things originate from Seattle; you are yet another.

    Keep up the great work.

If you get a chance while checking out NCAA, would you see if they fixed Reser Stadium and have the correct scoreboard this year, rather than 2 side-by-side?

    Thanks

Can you just find out as much as you can about new equipment in Madden & NCAA? As well as whether or not Campus Legend is getting any new uniform selections or any kind of upgrade in the high school playoff portion of it. Thanks Pasta.

This is pretty cool that you get to do this. If possible ask about:

    Snow in Madden-why only footprints?
Do helmets come off once in a while on big hits?

    Thank you very much.

Pasta, you must check to see how effecient the CPU is in it’s passing game. I’ve watched two full games now on IGN.com and I have yet to see the CPU throw an incomplete pass; the only time the ball hits the ground is when the WR drops it.

Let us know if the CPU averages a 90% completion percentage against you.

    Thanks.

Pasta, would you mind finding out all of the editing options in CAP/edit player mode? Thanks…

Gametrailers.com posted a new Homefield advantage trailer for NCAA. I was watching this and I asked myself a question but ill be damned if I can answer it. The presentation of the trailer, camera angles and sounds, were fantastic! Why cant they make the presentation in their games like that, specifically replays?

Madden looks like its better this year for sure. But the camera angles during the trailer were really cool. We never see those camera angles during the game, the field goals going through the uprights and whatnot. You know, its all traditional cameras. They need to incorporate a broadcast/cinema style replay that mirrors what they do in their trailers somehow. Or get the guys that do all the media hype TV spots a chance to work some magic on the games presentation cause the TV trailers allways rock.

was just wondering, if/when you get the chance to try madden or ncaa, i was wondering if you’d be able to check if we can change positions.. cause thats a big thing for me, not huge, but still big.

  19. Jonathon on May 29th, 2008 1:53 am Quote

after getting your hands on both games…

simply put, in terms of gameplay, control, and realism…which will be better this year? madden or ncaa?

also, i know it is probably already too late…but is the commentary audio finalized already? will Hammond sound robotic and Joe Montana Sports Talk Football-ish for this edition of madden? is this just a matter of the timing of piecing together the dialogue? or will a fix to this require a re-recording of all the commentary?

  20. Jonathon on May 29th, 2008 1:56 am Quote

you might ask someone…just for giggles…what the posibility of getting weekly sportcenter video highlights from around the league would be for the franchise mode…i know its a long shot…and would probably never happen…but i am pretty sure that a GOOD number of fans are dying for this little addition to make franchise mode come more to life…

  21. Jonathon on May 29th, 2008 2:06 am Quote

in madden’s superstar mode…there were times that i would receive emails about the weekly AFC and NFC players’ of the week…but when i looked at the players of the week in the menu…they were not the same players…

when you look at the player cards in franchise mode…you can see all of their stats for each individual game, but only in limited categories…can these stats be expanded?

will there be a differentiation between solo tackles and assists this year? and will there finally be “half-sacks” this year?

also in franchise mode…will there be a special presentation or notification for winning your division? winning the conference championship? winning the super bowl? seems a little past due…heck even tecmo super bowl in the SNES had cut scenes for each of these events…and i hate to admit, but that was 15 years ago…wow, i’m getting old…

can there be best TE award added to Franchise mode as well? my tight ends get the shaft and most of the time are my team’s leading receiver every year…

    BOWL PATCHES?
    BOWL GAME PRESENTATION?

That’s all I want to know.

  25. Blazelore on May 29th, 2008 6:28 am Quote

I want details about the franchise mode. They haven’t spoke on it too much which worries me some.

I’d be interested to know why they didn’t add stadiums for all the remaining teams and if they plan on doing that next year.

Could you find out all the things you can do when combining Head Coach with Madden besides creating plays?

That would be great if you could get that info Pasta keep up the good work man!

  29. thesteamontheboat on May 29th, 2008 7:21 am Quote

One more thing Pasta could you find out if there is a trophy presentation at the end of bowl games or something other than what happens at the end of a regular season games? For example what they did in old gen version with the carrying the coach off the field while a lineman carries the crystal ball.

    Thanks Pasta

    Pasta,

Sent you a contact message but could you do some digging to find out if Head Coach (or indeed NCAA 09) will get a PAL release? I no in the past you’ve been somewhat doubtful but if you can find out that’d be grand.

    Dan
