NBA Live 09 features trailer

June 18, 2008 by pastapadre

The first trailer for NBA Live 09 has made its way out continuing what has been a busy few days around the game. Next week brings the community event so I’ll be able to report back on my experience with everything…well except for the secret feature that is.

The trailer focuses on some of the new features in the game this year which includes the NBA Academy, signature play-calling, pick & roll control, and expanded FIBA mode among others. I watched this and to me it screamed point guard cover athlete (Deron Williams?). Continue on to watch the video and leave your thoughts in the comments.

still don’t like the way they move, just does not look right .

Still looks choppy and the players models look stickish…but they have time…graphics per usual ea look tight

    looks like replica of 08

No actual gameplay footage. Bummer, I was hoping to see if they have fixed the passing mechanics…thats the one thing that really bugged me about 08. When you passed the ball it just looks really weird and not natural.

I don’t get it. It’s like they motion-captured robots. NBA players do not move like that. Still very awkward looking. EA needs to work on this. The animation speed in 08 was very annoying also (some animations are too fast and others are too slow). Stop buying out companies and invest in game quality.

In one of the producers blogs you posted pasta he was talking about the quickstrike anke breakers and used Deron Williams as an example.

So you might be onto something!

i say allen iverson as the cover boy to represent the new ankle breaker feature.

The ball arc on shots is a bit too high for my liking. They said the shooting, dunking, blocking, passing has been re-done. I’m not seeing it. Although it is still early. So Im not gonna judge on the first video made.

No thanks. The player movement is too choppy and it’s not natural.

Not worth my 60 dollars. No thanks EA, I’ll do a crossover on this game and pick and roll 2K into my 360

    very nicely written sam…

I saw a lot of Lamar Odom in that clip. Now wouldn’t that be an ironic cover athelete selection. Sounds about right, lots of similarities. Amazing potential, great tools(If he/they knew how to use them), soft as tissue, consistenley underwhelming and anything but solid.

    Lamar Odom LIVE 09′

(I’ll be sticking with KG this fall.)

I do not want to judge on Live 09, but I just can not see the point of this video.

It is EXACTLY like a Live 08 gameplay mix from Youtube, graphicly nothing new, it only shows a few new features…

NBA Academy? —– Seems like the good old Practice mode…

FIBA teams? —– A false feature from last year…

Play calling? —– Can be interesting, but if You are asking me, it just makes the game more difficult…

Ankle breaker? —– It is just a signiture move, exist in NBA games for years…

I can not understand them. They are advertising these small, almost insignificant features, but at the same time they loudly say, that NBA LIVE is back to the basics. They should change the core of the game, not adding useless features.

  22. ReignMan on June 19th, 2008 12:49 am Quote

Dr, Logic, this comparison is funny.

    ODOM - 29 yrs - h 6,10 - 230 lbs - pf
    GARNETT - 32 yrs - h 6,11 - 220 lbs - pf

For the first look almost the same, You have got to see them playing, in the game, to understand the difference. KG is emotional, loves the game, very clever, and elegant, The Goods is just a worker, playing without fantasy, constrained, self-willed, playing for the money.

NBA Academy not a practice mode in the preview it said its a mode with over 20
drills in dynasty mode to help imporve your player its likes madden training camp

It’s going to be hard to top NBA 2K because, even now, I am amazed at some of the animations and shot attempts made in that game. I am still seeing things that I have not seen before.

I bought both games last year and was VERY impressed with Live but ended up taking it back because 2K just had more animations that made the game feel like a real game… I’ll probably do the same this year and only keep one of the games.

  26. adam on June 19th, 2008 9:30 am Quote

    same as last year

  27. huddy187 on June 19th, 2008 10:45 am Quote

adam explain how is this the same as last years if you havent really seen all the features in the game. 2k have some good features and live have some good features.

  28. kcxiv on June 19th, 2008 10:47 am Quote

Looks great when standing still. Now when they start moving the game looks pretty bad.

  29. Dr Logic on June 19th, 2008 5:46 pm Quote

they dont show deron williams once….

  30. agentk on June 23rd, 2008 3:16 am Quote

Every year I say to myself, nba live could have as good of gameplay as nba 2k but with better graphics. Every year I’m wrong.
