First NBA 2K9 Screenshots

While E3 was light on details surrounding NBA 2K9 at least the first five screenshots for the game were released today. You can check them out in the gallery and make sure to leave your thoughts on them in the comments.

finally they fix the faces and graphics good job 2k
Looks just like last years which was good, but who cares about close ups that arent actually what you will see when you actually play.
2k will alway be good and Live will be better. 2k will always be more technically correct and live will always be more easily picked up.
I have played 2k for the past 3 years and I gave up on 2k8 b/c of the lack of instructions on how to do anything in the game. I am not a mind reader and i dont remember the controls for every game i play especially the seasonal one like sports.
yea instructions would help the game out alot because i didnt even know jamal crawford had his dribbling move he do. I hope 2k add instructions videos and
bring back 24/7 mode. I have a gut feeling 2k will bring 24/7 mode back

No it doesn’t look just like last year. If you look at the resolution it looks way better. 2K looks more like a real life game where as Live still has that unnatural look to it. 2K is still way more fluid than Live & they have 3 times as many animations. I’m sold. I don’t even need to see the game in motion because I already know 2K delivers in that area. 2K rules again and this is coming from a long time Live fan since the mid 90’s.
yeah those screen do look better than what 2k8 was not major but with more clips we will find out. gameplay wise it will always be better…giving up on 2k8 for live 08 is crazy lol…..u must like arcade style basketball which is cool.

They finally fixed the ball in 2K9 this year! I hated how the ball looked all fake last year. For those that say it looks the same as last year, you obviously have no idea how to notice improvements. Look at how much more realistic the crowd looks. Look at the overall body shapes. Look at the detail in their faces. Lives body types are all similar. I can’t wait for 2K9! I’ll get Live too because I always get both (I love basketball games) but I think 2K is going to blow us away as usual!

the jerseys look much improved last year the jerseys moved and looked like paper now they look like real silk jerseys and ea makes live look better and than 2k comes and makes live look terrible(as always)

i like live gameplay and 2k gameplay. but 2k do need to show us trailers
for the first time ever i can say that 2k has better graphics than live, at least judging by the screens.

game looks sweet can’t wait until October to see what the game is like I always buy both live and 2k but I play 2k 10x more than I play live I want to hear the new commentary because they Kenny Smith is not doing it anymore for 2k and I also cant wait to play with all the rookies and the sixers with Elton Brand
it looks pretty good. i am not biased but 2k has not been up to par with live graphics but this year they have surpassed them. i still need gameplay to determine weather it will still be the basketball game king. but it prolly will be

Timothy, whatever you are smoking, I want some of that. Live is the most unrealistic sports game I have ever laid my hands on. Easy to pick up? Yeah because you can score 70 points every game with Kobe. It’s a joke even on the hardest difficulty

but maybe EA is SMARTER than I gave then CREDIT for B/C they do have the BETTER features ie NBA academy, AS weekend, DNA, FIBA
they must have known eventually 2K’s GRAPHICS would catch up to it’s GPLAY & they are banking on these features to KEEP & try to get back their LIVE fans
NBA 2K9 is a LOCK but I still might get LIVE if it doesn’t live up 2 the HYPE i’ll trade it for SR2

Thanks for the pics Pasta. Just curious though, why aren’t you a fan of NBA 2K Pasta? I don’t have any problem with someone preferring Live over 2K. Just wondering why you don’t even play 2k?

It is on now. 2k has the graphics to compete now I hope for something like Live DNA and I cant wait for some demos
Man Live keeps adding features instead of fixing the poor gameplay and glitches. 2k now has the graphics 2 match the great gameplay. Live should take a few years off then comeback cus 2k is READY! they been ready and they aint goin no where! 2k is the best!

now as far as GRAPHICS go I just got through comparing LIVE 09 pics to 2K9
1st I compared the 2 T-MACS but that was TOO easy I mean just look at the jersey so I then picked a similar 1 Live Kobe guarding Ray vs 2k Kobe guarding AI that 1 was definitely closer but 2k STILL took it
so how can YOU say what you said & MEAN it
both live and 2k need to fix the missed layups because it really gets on my nerves how when I am playing online and i missed like 10 layups in a row and I lose because of that
I see live guys assuming they’d have to ‘play’ 2k first before passing judgement? Please. 2k earned the right to not have to show gameplay, you know its there. They had to show high level high def player models, and they have.

2k9 looks great. and just because live is by EA and has ome extra mode doesnt make it a good game. i would rather play blitz the league. by the way pasta, are you going to have any info coming out on blitz the league 2 because i saw it on the upcoming games list at gamestop. and do you know if there is any way to have anouncers on madden and ncaa 09 during superstar and campus legend?

How is 2k glitch city? n if u like no defense, easy scoring with one player and stupid animations then role with live. 2k smashed live every review. Pasta’s judgement seems biased in my eyes. i dunno how he could pick live over 2k after the last 3 years. Thats jus crazy.
2K8’s success depends on LIVE’s short comings. Basketball games have extremely low standards when compared to other sport titles. If this LIVE DNA pans out the way it’s supposed to be, then I think it will be the better game. NBA Live 2008 was a step in the right direction, and by the videos they have definitely improved and as Pasta and many other of the community participants stated….the flaws of the gameplay can be addressed and tweaked before it’s release. Both 2K8 and LIVE 08 were bad IMO, but 2K8 was the lesser of two evils.

I love basketball, my favorite sport; however, the standards for basketball games have been low in the next generation era. 2K8 and Live 08 were BOTH bad games, both full of glitches, both having annoyances you just couldn’t over look. Granted there will never be a PERFECT sports game, there will always be room for improvement. 2K8 simply was the better of two bad basketball games (3 if you count NBA 08). As I mentioned before, 2K8’s success was at the expense of LIVE’s failures (as with most business is). Hopefully with 2K9 and/or LIVE 09 the standards are raised, and based of what LIVE has put out, it looks like they are serious about making this a next gen experience. Based off the screen shots of 2K9, it appears they are addressing the graphics issue, but then again…their screen shots looked amazing last year as well. Keep in mind, I always buy both games, I always use custom sliders (thanks Playmakers) to make the game enjoyable. To all the fanboys out there that say that 2K8 was “a great game”, seriously, your #1 reason for justifying that comment is because “Live 08 sucks”. Both games were heavily flawed, accept it.
NO my reason for justifying that comment was b/c next to NFL 2K5, NBA 2K8 was the best sport game I played yes better than MADDEN as far as trying 2 re-create the LOOK & FEEL of an ACTUAL Broadcast on TV

If NBA 2K8/NFL 2K5 set the standards for you, then so be it, but FACT remains that BASKETBALL games have not been represented as with other sports coming onto gaming consoles. 2K8 was a lesser of two evils. Ok please point out the flaws n 2k? i can only list one and thats the easy pick n roll offense. Which if ur a good player or even have some type of strategy u would no how 2 stop it. Live is for little kids with no strategy. U can pick the game up and do spin moves the wole way down the court. NO DEFENSE. 2k atleast challenges u 2 figure out the games. Ur prolly jus mad cus u suck at it and dn no the moves. 2k was a great game. Live was trash GET OVER IT!

This conversation isn’t going to go anywhere because of the fanboyism. Was 2K8 better than LIVE? Yes it was. However, both basketball games were garbage.

Last years 2K8 screen shots were nice, but are they actual game play screen shots or an artist rendition? My money is on the later, but that is something that they should have been able to improve on since jumping to next gen in 2006. We’ll see.

fam i’m NOT a 2k fanboy you SLOW i’ve bought EVERY LIVE since 96 - 06 xbox version (I have not purchased any of the next gen 1’s) i’ve only bought 2k over live the last 2 yrs

well jr i have to agree with you homie 2k8 is the best of the bad. through my reading of the comments left by you and sdot buddy is quite the fanboy. either way it goes it looks as though each game is trying to improve on their greatest flaws LIVE 09 gameplay and as always features. 2K9 we should see a vast improvement graphically. ea aquired a couple of guys from 2K to work on their gameplay mechanics. 2K decided to get their graphics together. i will more than likely purchase them both to see wich one will be aborbing the majority of my time. so if you are a fanboy be one but for me whoever makes the better game will get the starting postion the other will ride the pine
I’m not saying 2K9 or LIVE are going to be failures, but for people to stake claim that 2K8 is best basketball game out there doesn’t hold much merit. If you check out the Madden game, it is held to a much higher standard. Granted people have their gripes about it, but the game in itself is phenomenon, because people expect so much out of it. Every year we demand something new from it, innovative. As for the NBA games in the past…there has been no true innovation. For NBA Live it was the free style analog stick, and for the 2K it was the shot stick. How long has it been? This year however, I’m really starting to be impressed. Normally I set back and just watch and I’m ho-hum, but this year both franchises are doing good things, which should give both flavors a more lasting appeal to their respective gamers.
I buy both versions of the basketball games. I play them both equally. I prefer neither one over the other. They both have their strong points, they both have their weaknesses. But thank you for seeing what I was getting at JUDA, it wasn’t an attack, but homeboy had to get schooled.
