NBA Live 09 E3 Stage Show Video

July 16, 2008 by pastapadre

Earlier today Gamespot hosted a live stage show demonstration of NBA Live 09 which included producer Brent Nielson. Of course one of the main topics discussed was the recently announced 365 and the player DNA along with “Rewind”. There is a great deal of gameplay shown throughout the 10 minute video along with the demonstration of signature play calling. It is also mentioned that the demo for the game should be out around mid-September.

Continue on to watch the video and be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments.

In Gamespots write up they said there WILL be the be a pro mode like the one featured in the FIFA game but I thought I saw in a producer blog that it wont be in the game?

Do you know anything further Pasta? Thanks.

Sig shots dont look that bad allen’s was pretty good but Fisher’s was really off. The one thing that bothered me with 2k7 and 2k8 was that some of the sig shots were too long like ronnie brewer’s. I hope that live with their emerging sig shots dont have this problem

live is good and so is 2k….. this reminds me a lot of back in 05 with nfl 2k5 and madden 05 two great games that people should try to get their hands on both

The crowd movement have been in nba2k games for a couple of years now, catch up buddy like live is tryin to do. So to say its much better than 2k is ignorant to say when live is really catching up to nba2k series.

all those play calling features are from 2k8, watching that video, I still see that “live delay” where you have to watch the animation, that takes control out of our hands. I do like the overall look, and I see alot of signature shots, another 2k taking, should please my Live friends. I’m still 2k addicted. and the screen shots of 2k9 destroys that live gameplay video, in my biased opinion, lmao

    Thank Padre

  22. Tristate killla on July 17th, 2008 6:23 am Quote

Live still has issues of the players looking like there at a Roller Ring just sliding away on skates lol

Live doesn’t even have better GRAPHIX anymore they use 2 have BETTER player faces but going off of screen comparisons they don’t even have that anymore

2k has always had the REALER looking Body types & Ambiance such as REALER/BETTER crowds, cameramen , mascots, cheerleaders, vendors ya’ll getting the point

too many people hatin on live. Hey pasta, I know you said the player ratings were not updated in the build you had, but i saw that Duncan has gone from a 91 to 95 and Pierce 89 to 91, KG 92 to 91, We see some of the ratings already, they have to be done already. Hook us up pasta.

  27. sdot on July 17th, 2008 8:41 am Quote

fam it’s NOT even HATE (at least not on my part) it’s just ya’ll see EA add new features & claim that they have fixed or will fix GPLAY issues & then say it’s better than 2K as if their aren’t vidz out showing that it’s still NOT better than 2K8 (haven’t seen what 2k9 is going 2 bring yet) it’s like WTF are ya’ll talking bout

it’s like KNICKS fans (I live in NY) every year they say this is going 2 be their year & every year it’s NOT

  28. chopstixxx148 on July 17th, 2008 8:54 am Quote

    i agree with DUANEOLA

a lot of people do hate on live

  29. Josh on July 17th, 2008 9:37 am Quote

Why are the people in the crowd bigger than the players on the court? WTF? If you look closely watch when players are at the bottom of the screen. One the people in the crowd stood up & was like a foot taller than Rajon Rhondo. People in the crowd on the bottom of the screen are like 8 feet tall & a lot larger than the players. Just seems off but other than that the game looks improved although still not as fluid as 2K. I guess EA is taking baby steps.

people are hating on ea becuase they are known to dissapoint a lot like in next gen maddens and remeber live 07 that was absolutely terrible but 08 was improved and hopefully it will get to the point where its at its best thats why 2k and ea is a bad comparison right now because neither game is not where they should be

  32. alex1 on July 17th, 2008 12:46 pm Quote

im so sorry pasta but this looks the exact same as 08 (which is bad). it might be different when you play it

  34. sdot on July 17th, 2008 1:29 pm Quote

huddy theres a diff in being a Hater & being a Realest I know how EA treats their games
I also know how BAD NBA Live 07 was
I also NBA Live 08 was an improvement
but lastly I know how much further ahead 2K is & how much ground Live needs to make up so despite the Hype machine
I know Live 09 can’t be better than 2K in the GPLAY department

that’s NOT HATE it’s common sense

  35. pastapadre on July 17th, 2008 1:31 pm Quote

Yeah 365 works with Xbox Live Silver. It’s basically along the lines of the ESPN Radio and the Ticker in how it streams in.

    2k9 is boring

  37. JR on July 17th, 2008 1:43 pm Quote

Based off looking at the video, I’m really beginning to wonder if the crowds will be an annoyance more than an enhancement. I would really like to see a game implement varying crowd sizes. For example, Memphis should be a ghost town, while Boston should be packed. Your level of play, record and organization prestige should dictate how many fans show up to the games. Maybe an owner mode?

  38. huddy187 on July 17th, 2008 1:43 pm Quote

its only commen sense if you played it 2k9 and live 09 you cant really compare until you played them both

  39. JR on July 17th, 2008 1:57 pm Quote

Exactly. Fanboyism is running rampant on these message boards, especially from sdot.

it’s simple math if 1 car A) leaves at 1:00pm traveling 65 mph & car B) leaves at 4:00pm traveling at 55 mph how long would it take car B 2 catch up to car A

answer it won’t unless car A comes to a STOP

Live is improving their game but so is 2K & with 2K’s Lead Live won’t be able to catch it

  41. JR on July 17th, 2008 2:11 pm Quote

LOL@this guys logic. Seriously man, give it up. Is 2K paying you?

  42. leo on July 17th, 2008 2:15 pm Quote

Are u serious? Their big change is DNA? I am a gamer, i don’t care how many years worth of stats i have access to. THis is precisely why i run solely with 2K. The gameplay, hands down better, fluidity of the game is second to none. 2K needs to buy the rights to the NBA like EA did with the NFL. But i guess when your second and not first you do what you can to boost your sells. EA, basketball games are not your strong point!!!!! 2K keep up the good work!

  43. JR on July 17th, 2008 2:29 pm Quote

Actually when you look into DNA it’s pretty damn interesting. In theory the A.I. should play a lot better, and play to the tendencies of the players. Interesting to see if they’ll utilize DNA for the defensive end in the future. LEO, apparently you didn’t even look into this article. As a fan of sports in general you have to appreciate this technology. I have a feeling if this was being used by 2K, you’d be praising them and building a shrine for them.

  44. huddy187 on July 17th, 2008 2:49 pm Quote

yea dna is a great idea i dont know whats his problem, these 2k fannys relentless they dont quit. Leo when the last time 2k scored a 9 or a 10 or even a 8.9. Leo just angry because 2k didnt do it. I dont care if dna is in live or 2k it really is a ground breaking feat, and i cant wait to get it. 2k would never buy live.

  45. g2thecore on July 17th, 2008 3:05 pm Quote

So much hate……Anyways, from what I’ve seen…it’s looking better than year’s past….I might actually buy a basketball game this year. I think 2K is great but it’s too complicated for casual bball gamers like me. I’d rather run with Live because it’s more casual oriented. Otherwise as far as realism and animations, I give 2K the edge.

see G2thecore just prove my point casual fans like Live cuz it’s simple 4 any1 2 play just hold turbo tap up 2 spin & dunk that’s why people who understand the game of B-BALL ie REAL Ball Players appreciate 2K

I mean you can really feel the diff when playin with LeBron or Kobe or AI thanx to signature PACKAGES NOT BULL____ ya’ll call GO 2 moves in Live every single 1 of those quote go 2 moves is in Live Literally plus they have way more sig shots plus nice little touches like player mannerism that just add 2 the OVERALL REALISM

every year EA drops a game be it football or B-Ball fans complain they say they will fix it next year then they hype ya’ll about how MUCH BETTER this iteration will be & ya’ll STRANGELY believe them & then ya’ll complain all about all the things they didn’t fix both BIG & SMALL from GPLAY 2 being able to edit players to lighting

  61. JG on July 19th, 2008 10:53 am Quote

    Pasta,

How will DNA affect how you manage your dynasty? For example does it make sense to make trades (if you manage a team that has a goal of improving it’s roaster)? What would be the point of the practice facility? Wouldn’t the stat tracking of DNA’s daily updates overwrite all of this?

At any rate this is a great feature and very welcomed. I’m really looking forward to both titles this year and especially Live. Hopes that gameplay is solid (fingers crossed).
