Brett Favre Traded to the New York Jets

August 6, 2008 by pastapadre

It’s now official…Brett Favre has been traded to the New York Jets. For the first time ever a cover athlete will be playing for a different team than the one represented on the game. What does it mean for Madden 09?

While a roster update is already out that had moved Favre to the backup slot for the Packers, another one is expected by the official release date. Favre will certainly be the starter on the Jets by the time people pick up the game. I’d fully expect to see downloadable Brett Favre covers on the EA website soon. I even believe there is a possibility they’ll release a new edition of Madden 09 with a Favre-Jets cover sometime in the future. This is a unique opportunity that EA will surely look to take advantage of.

For those interested, Chris Littman at FirstCuts has a 360 and PS3 cover using the Favre-Jets screenshot above here.

How much will Favre help the Jets in Madden? Can the Jets contend in the AFC? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

2 answer PASTA”s ? NO the Jets CAN’T contend in AFC & Favre WON’T be a BIG think back 2 SHAQ on the SUNS

1) it’s a WHOLE diff style from what Brett was use 2

2)all new team mates & tendencies 2 get use 2

3) isn’t Brett older than the coaches he’ll be very stubborn & set in his ways

I think this will NOT benefit the Jets good move the packs moving on wit their PLANS

Ouch! Man I bet he regrets it now. He wanted to come back and be a contender. Favre is a winner and winner’s dont take loosing very well, especially when it might be the last game you ever play. Football is a team sport, no crappy team out there can win with ONE good player.

GB had the choice between TB and NYJ and I bet they picked the NYJ just because they knew he would be a good fit at TB. They are doing everything they can to piss off Favre.

Being a huge Jet fan I have mixed emotions on this. Yes, Im happy the front office finally got a qb that can stretch the field. But, he is only going to be there for 1 year and thats it.

As far as Madden goes. YES, I will finally enjoy playing with them this year.

See you guys online.

Considering that the Jets apparently pitched him on multiple things, including the opening of a new stadium next year, it sounds like they expect him to be around for 2+ years.

I’m not sure that Favre will be the one turning around the Jets season. He’s going in there behind the 8 ball, as he will only be in 3 pre-season games. He’s going into a new system with new terminology and new receivers. If he does stick around for more than a season, which I’m assuming he will, I think that we could see a decent Jets team next year. I think that with the Jenkins and Faneca moves there is a lot of change for this team and that it will take at minimum a 1/4 of the season for the team to gel, but probably more like 6 to 8 games. I see at most 8 wins for the Jets this year.

I really like this trade for the JEts. Only my opinion. Let me know what you think of this write up.

Offense

They completely revamped there guard position with some of the best in the business- Woody and Fanaca they have mangold as there center brikashaw as one of there takcles so brett will be taken care of without question..
They have Dustin Keller and bretts packer TE Bubba Franks. They have Jerrico Cotchry, who will have a breakout season without a doubt, pro-bowl type player in LaVernous Coles and not to mention fast stuckny or brad smith as there third wide out you know how Jennsings was to brett . Smith or Stuckny is brett this year coming as the third out. THey will have a solid running game with Thomas JOnes, 1 year under the system, and Leon Washington.

Defense

Drafted a hybrid player in the first round and will make a huge impact. SOlid at the corner postion with revis, last years pick, and Justin milliar who might have a good season. Kris Jenkins, will be conditioned and injury-free ,probably, and Sedrick Ellis are both pro-bowl type players. David Harris is a STUD Most people didn’t like the Vilma trade ,but if you compare Harris numbers to other LB such as a sacks, tackels you may re-question your opinion on the trade. Granted alot of people are saying the only way Harris had the year he did his rookie year was, because of the way the offense watched Vilma. Since I’m from michigan and watched Harris play you’ll get the same player like his rookie year every season, hopefully.

Special team- Mike Knugent is money.

My prediction for the season they can go 13-3 or 12-4

losses- Patriots(2 times) Reason- Revis is great ,but if he locks on Moss who going to cover Jackson, Welker, or Gaffney, and that doesn’t include the TE or the backs

Charages- LT,

(Possible loss) Seahawks- Holmgrem

They lose a 4th round pick and possible depening on Bretts Performance a second round pick. But with the draft being stacked with good and taented QB’s and Corner. To this up and coming draft class is like Gas prices are $1.30 you can get what you want, the jets, at a cheap price.

Then again, if Brett were to get “MADDEN CURSE” FORGET EVERYTHING I SAID HERE and do not ever listen to my opinions.

Im sick of people being on the Favre band wagon. The guy is so great cuz he was on a pass first team for 16 years. He threw 80% of the time and he has the touchdowns to prove it and INTs by the way. Its like this he broke Dan records but look at the time frame…. its like Emmitt breaking sweetness record if you run the ball enough eventually your going to break it. Ive heard he’s a winner the guy has just amount of superbowls as Eli Manning. I hear he is a gun slinger thats all fine and well but when another QB does what he does he is playn wreckless. Dont get me wrong he is a good QB, but for teams like the jets to think they will win cuz of Favre is stupid. Lets not forget that the pack last year had a top 5 D and the reason they lost was……. because of a legendary Brett Favre pick.

Im just mad we went through weeks of seeing favre all over the tv just to see him go to the Jets. Im just saying Brett’s titanic greatness is a lil overrated cause he broke all those records because, he had way more time and alot of trial and error. He is the only qb to throw over 15 picks during a losing season and stay the qb for the next season witout competition. Why you ask? He won A! super bowl 12 years ago.

Favre is not satisfied, he’ll never be. i hope he gets injured (nah just kidding).

12-4?! 13-3?! Now granted, I like what the Jets did during the offseason (very 06-07 Flyers/07-08 TB Lightning if anyone follows hockey…very aggressive free agency period), but 12 wins?!? I seriously doubt 12 wins will happen with the short amount of time Favre has to learn the system and the actual talent on the offensive side of the ball. The AFC is too tough for a team like the Jets to get 12 wins. Is a 9-7 season or a 10-6 season a possibility? Of course…They’re facing the NFC West. But a 12-4 or 13-3 season with the talent the Jets have is crazy…great O-line and HOF QB or not.

Let’s break it down:
at Miami - W
vs NE - L
at SD - L
vs AZ - W
vs CIN - W (Possibly…that could go either way really)
at OAK - W
vs KC - W
at BUF - L
vs STL - W
at NE - L
at TEN - L (Possibly..I’d like to see the Titans defense against the Jets O-line…that should be a good matchup that day.)
vs DEN - W
at SF - W
vs BUF - W
at SEA - L
vs MIA - W

Looks like a 10-6 season to me…possibly 11-5 (I don’t think I’m too far off with the schedule though. The Titans may pull out the win, I gave the Bills their home game, and I think Seattle is a more complete football team). Either way, it should be close enough for the Jets to earn a Wild Card spot in the playoffs. They’re facing a very weak division in the NFC West, which will help the new Favre-led Jets.

one thing i for got to mention, how about the cowboys -giants in the playoffs? dallas clearly has more talent and was the better team. with that being said football is so unpredictable. dont base your opinions from last years team or what team got who from the free agent market. wins cannot be bought period. look at the redskins for years they were spending tons of cash in the free agent market on tons of talent and it got them nothing but a high salry cap. even the supposed elite teams lose to mediocre teams every now and them. texans did beat the colts if my memory is correct . anybody can be beat at anytime.

i would love for chad pennington to end up in KC…pennington has gotten bashed so much in his career and he has merely been one of the most accurate qb in the leagues every year he has played…and he has been money in the red zone (i think his first career turnover in the red zone happened last year)…as a chiefs fan give me pennington any day of the week…

haha…the jets aren’t the bad of a team…they certainly aren’t super bowl contenders and may not even when their division, though says more about the patriots than it does the jets…that being said…THE PACKERS OVER-ACHIEVED LAST YEAR…i fail to see how anyone else has not mentioned that…that is a major factor in the reason why we are here at this junction in the first place…brett favre knew it…the green bay brass knew it…and that combined with the fact that the packers need to know what they have in rodgers before they commit too him with a long-term contract or risk losing him in free agency, the packers wanted to see brett go…and in a way, brett knew that coming back the team would probably not be as good as they were the previous year…are the jets a better team? maybe or maybe not…they certainly have some very good players already on the roster and they definitely have a weaker schedule (other than the aforementioned patriots twice a year)…but for the most part…if the packers have brett favre, the fans are expecting a super bowl…if the jets have favre, fans are expected a playoff run…and i am pretty sure that the jets have discussed with brett the possibility of sticking around for 2-3 years already or they wouldn’t even have made this move…bottom line is any team that wasn’t in complete re-building mode has a chance to successful this year with brett around…and the ny fans will adore brett and he knows it…the guy just wants to be wanted and be successful…is that too much to ask?

His age has finally caught up to him here in the forth quarter. But wait he is crawling around behind the line and he has just thrown an underhand granny pass to Thomas Jones who has broken a tackle and scored a touchdown. The Jets win! I can’t wait to play the Jets online as they should be a “trendy” type team to use. IMO, skill positions like WR and RB do more damage in videogame football unless the QB is fast (which last time I checked, Favre was not) and my BUFFALO BILLS WILL CONTINUE TO SWEEP ‘EM IN REAL LIFE AND ON THE VIRTUAL FIELD BABY!!!!!

New England 14-2
Buffalo Bills 10-6

i fail to see how anyone outside of buffalo honestly believes that the bills are a good team…they had a grand total of one win versus a winning team last year…and were 2-9 against teams who won more than 5 games last season…hate to break the news to you…that’s not good…and being that they haven’t exactly added great talent to the team this off-season…i am dumbfounded as to how anyone could possibly think that they could repeat that performance of 7 wins a year ago…i’m not claiming that the jets are super bowl bound or any nonsense like that…but clearly with brett favre (not to mention the addition of two pro-bowlers on the o-line) this team is superior to the bills…to say the least…

Superior?

You mean a Bills team that won 7 games despite having the largest I.R. in the entire NFL last year? You mean the team that has a 2nd year QB and 2nd year RB who are continuing to gel on a daily basis? You mean the team that added a legit big target WR in James Hardy? You mean the team that will finally have a healthy MLB (who as a rookie was leading the NFL in tackles when he broke his arm) and a top flight CB/return man in McKelvin?

That team?

I doubt the Jets are superior to THAT team.

The one thing people forget is that Favre has the “X” factor. He knows how to win and he plays with passion. These are two things that will impact the Jets’ locker room.

I remember when Montana went to the Chiefs (although under totally different circumstances) everyone said the same thing. “Joe won’t make a difference, he is past his prime.”, etc….Although the Chiefs never made the Super Bowl, Montana definitely made a huge difference and the Chiefs were contenders.

Favre will help the Jets although I agree that the AFC is loaded. In my opinion, the Pack made a mistake and they proved that they felt he could still play by not allowing his outright release fearing he would sign with Minnesota. If the Packers’ front office felt that Favre’s good days were behind him they would have let him go.

Also, does sdot have a job??? If you’re not first, who cares????

Steamontheboat… do your research before you start talking trash.
A. The Packers have not always been a pass first team. The entire time Mike Sherman was there, they were a first team(which annoyed the sh#t out of me since they couldn’t run well…or Green would fumble) this all actually attributed to his int’s … because they were so shitty running the ball and playing from behind…Favre would have to carry the team and sometimes force a throw. I also have watched every Packer game for the last 5 years and can say without a doubt that 75 percent of his picks in that time were blown routes by his receivers.(The only permanent fixture we’ve had is Driver. Everyone else was a plugin)…and this is not to say that those 25 weren’t bonehead throwss…cause some of them were…but when you’re throwing 25-35 time in the second half of a game when your down, because your coach suck a@@… you’re gonna throw some ducks.

BTW…his int to pass attempt ratio is right on par with the Elways, Unitas’, Bradshaws, Aikmens’… he only has more ints because he has more passes…he is no more of a pick specialist than any other QB in Football…

Ted Thompson can so *^*^* himself. The worst thing to happen to the Packers. He has single handedly soiled the Packers legacy of being a classy, no nonesence organization…. forcing Brett out….being unwilling to trade him somewhere to his liking…not releasing him…trying to bribe him to stay retired(I have no idea why the players union is not doing anything about that)…feeding the media bullshit… TT repulses me… I love my Pack, but it will be bittersweet watching them until he is gone!

When was the last time the Jets beat the Bills? It’s been a few years kids. It’ll take more than Favre. They should sign Al Toon while they’re at it. And bring back Gastoneau too. Haaaa, Jets fans! How’s Gholston comin’ around??? Not good from what I’ve read…

Could someone please make a good Jets custom cover? Preferably, with Brett in the same position that he is in on the original cover, with a different uniform? Thanks!

“”We do not plan to re-issue packaging, but WILL offer a free downloadable cover in the coming days on easports.com featuring Brett Favre in a Jets uniform. Fans can print this new cover out and insert it into the case of Madden NFL 09,” a company spokesperson revealed to MTV. “

Hey Pasta, I got a more accurate cover here:

http://i271.photobucket.com/al.....ecover.png

Uses a template more similar to the actual one and has a better cut on the pic if I do say so myself.

EA could definitely run with this…

the timing of the online league set up… goes hand in hand with this…

i could a promo about the online draft set up…

asking a player…

“wish you had that missing puzzle piece of your favorite… hope to land a future hall of fame QB like the jets? then try the online league with your friends and land that gem…”

something to that effect…

they should certainly play this up…

Hey Pasta I have a few questions for you regarding On-Line Leagues? ( If you have this info)

1. If you have a full 32 team league how many make the playoffs? (Or is it optional)

2. Is there stat tracking? (Team, Individual)

3. Does the computer generate the schedule or the commisioner?

4. I know the schedule is “flex”, but does it come out in Week format (Week 1, Week 2, etc) so if you want your league to be 1 game a week it can be.

Thanks for any of these you can answer. I am having a real hard time finding answers to these, and I know you are very knowleadgable about Madden 09. Cheers

That team?

I doubt the Jets are superior to THAT team.
haha…name a player on the IR that would be a legit starter on a playoff caliber team…go ahead…i’m waiting…haha…this team is in trouble…and in large part was playing off the emotion felt from losing a reserve te in the first game to a serious spinal injury…the schedule is a bit tougher this year…the bills will be lucky to win five games…legit WR hardy…i’m trying to contain my laughter…haha…besides that…are you trying to say that you found a qb in the offseason that could even get your WR the ball? that being said, lynch could be a quality rb, though a lot of solid rbs have a sophomore slump after a big first year…but i know a lot of teams with even better runningbacks who fail to make the playoffs year in and year out (KC, STL, PHI, SF, ARI)…

I’m starting to feel like a kid at Christmas. I’m counting down the sleeps ’til Madden ‘09 gets here, lol. I work nights (actually I’m at work right now) so I only have 4 more sleeps to go. Some people take a Madden holiday, call in sick the day it’s released, but I’m taking a Madden vacation. I’ve got next week booked off as I figure I’ll need the time because I’m getting the collectors edition and I’m as excited for Head Coach ‘09 as I am Madden. Only bummer is that there is no place around me that is having a midnight launch party (I live East coast Canada, and as far as I’m aware neither Futureshop or Electronics Boutique are doing this). Madden launch, NFL in full pre-season, and Fantasy Football, what a great time of year :)
