First Patch for Madden 09 Out Now

The patch that was expected around release time for Madden 09 has now gone out for both the 360 and PS3. The 360 received the patch early this morning while the PS3 has had it for the last couple days. The list of what was addressed in this patch can be found below.
1. Changed default quarter length of online leagues to 5 minutes.
2. Solved a very rare stability issue that occurred when using a couple of playbooks.
3. Eliminated a button mashing glitch during high latency online games.
4. Eliminated a stability issue that sometimes occurred while viewing the player HUB in online leagues.
5. Fixed a tricky disc eject glitch that occurred at specific points of online games.
6. Kick Return Tuning - made improvements to help reduce frequent long kick returns.
7. Safety Tuning - eliminated issue where safeties in deep zone coverage would sometimes not react to a run to their side.
8. The game skill slider for interceptions was tuned to amplify it’s affect.
Be sure to leave your thoughts on any differences with the game that are noticed and could possibily be attributed to this patch. Online play stability is still a big issue and this patch hasn’t seemed to help in that regard on the PS3 side since receiving it. A second patch is still in the planning stages.

This is good to see EA fixing many problems with the game this early. I’ve heard people complain about the online play but I’ve played ten times and havn’t been disconnected or laggy at all. get your connections fixed. Also on a side note, Madden Head Coach 09 is so sick. They should take out Franchise in Madden and just throw in Head Coach. It’s so sick. Getting it for less than a mere twenty bucks was a real steal.

Xbox 360 is the king of online play snitches
so when they say they have fixed ‘a rare stability issue’ within a few playbooks…does that mean that there are no more WR direct snap glitches?

This patch was submitted a few weeks ago, I don’t think they were aware of the current online probs.

If it was as easy “getting my connection fixed” i would. But it’s not. I can play every other game except EA sports titles without lag. NBA 2K doesn’t lag. Halo doesn’t lag, CoD4…no lag. Hell NCAA football doesn’t lag nearly as much as madden.

Well like i said earlier, I’ve played ten games online and havent experienced any lag or disconnects, so i guess there was nothing wrong to begin with.

Madden 09 should be close to completely playable by the time the Super Bowl gets here…if you’re lucky. Or, if it’s like last year…it won’t be playable at all…at any point and time. Hooray EA!

Then why the hell are you complaining you freak. If yo havent played it you wouldnt know. Also, if its such a busy summer why are u responding to me when I talk, i thought you’re too busy.
It’s all well and good adjusting AI, amplifying sliders and changing default quarter lengths. But how about making it so Franchise can go more than a fucking preseason game before crashing? I don’t know if it’s caused by the same thing that caused it last year, but how on earth does this kind of thing get past QA/testing? It’s not like you have to play a few years before it happens, either. It’s just lazy.
Despite there being virtually no change to the game modes, and the Madden IQ stuff not quite being as well executed as it could’ve been, I’m happy enough that the gameplayhas so far been a great improvement over ‘08 that it doesn’t really bother me. But seriously, at least let me play the samey modes without being concerned that it could die on me at any minute.
I think it would be sick if they did what NHL is doing. You can make a guy online and play with him, kind of like superstar mode. Madden should integrate this so you can play specific positions and make a team with your friends.

I just want to know if there’s going to be anything released that addresses the jetbacking by DB’s and LB’s. I’ve played too many games where they still take off into the stratosphere to get an INT. Let’s fix that.
Also, wasn’t there supposed to be an issue with freezing after editing the rosters?
Are they still looking into “field degradation”?

Just did it. You have to log on to XBOX live to attempt to play anyone. Once you do that, it’ll automatically update the rosters.

Anyways on the topic these are all issues that have minimal impact to the actual game and while I am glad they have fixed them they need to look into more important issues faster, like the online disconnect issues and CPU players randomly running out of bounds with nobody around.
I thought they were going to patch the field degredation? What happened? I don’t understand how EA has been promoting Madden since March & when the game comes out we have all these issues. I’m noticing more & more glitches & bugs the more I play it. This game is completely overrated. The gameplay is ok & has more animations but it still has some of the same old problems. I don’t even like the graphics that much. I mean the player models are better porportioned more realistic but the overall game has this cartoony look to it with too many jaggies. I’m not waiting around to the SuperBowl just to play a working football game. Different year same story from EA. I might just return the game & get a refund. NBA 2K9 can’t get here soon enough!
Is there gna b a patch 2 where they fix the LB and CB glitches? they still slap and pick off passes they cant see? and my WR’s can see it but wnt react? if they dnt fix that atliest give me my strafe catching back lol damn

THIS is just ridiculous. There needs to be a place to go to DL the rosters. I wanted the update, but didn’t want to play anyone online, so I ended up getting a quit. I didn’t even know anyone was there waiting to play. I just hit the “B” button after it downloaded. oiy…

I agree with you completely.
And just think about the people who don’t have a gold account; they can’t get the roster update at all. EA must’ve been drunk when they came up with this ridiculous way of getting roster updates to people.
All the people who have problems with madden, just dont play it, you dont deserve the game. It has come so far in such a short amount of time. Also, try playin ghead coach 09. Games so sick. My new chise mode.

I got the collectors edition, and I cannot stand Madden this year. Even in single player, the games just feel so insane. I couldn’t do much on offense, and my defense on Madden 09 is TERRIBLE…but yet I never had problems like this on 08.
Head Coach is sick. I’m glad I have it, especially after how terrible Madden is this year. I try not to bash games, but I can’t stand the gameplay this year.

Yea its cause me and pat aint bihithes and complain about how the sidelines suck and stuff. We respect their work and they respect us with a game that dont freeze.

4 of my friends, along with myself experienced freezing in franchise mode as well.
A couple of us experience freezing on the 360, and the rest on PS3.
I don’t know what the issue is, but hopefully it gets fixed. I might return my game tomorrow just in case the issue remains unresolved.

Why didn’t you tell us how bad the game play is in this game. You had access to this game and have even played full games before release. You should have told us how bad the AI is in this game and how running the ball against the CPU is near impossible.
You could have told us how bad the O line blocking is how the jet pack defenders still exist in the game. I don’t know if you are on the EA payroll or they put a gag order on you or perhaps you just don’t want to flame them for they might not let you back to see future iterations, but as a serious journalist/blogger that you have grown to become, it is your duty to give the straight unbiased scoop on this game. This game is no better than 08 and in many ways its worse.
If I had known how bad this game plays and how the challenge level in the game is directly linked to the CPU cheapness factor then I might have held off on this title.

Are you serious? First of all, the general consensus is that the game is a huge improvement. I had the sense that it would be received that way. Gameplay is subjective, but myself and most people would agree that it is much better this year.

Haha OWNED! Pasta any news on the field degragation, maybe in that next patch that’s in the works? And as for this whole page virtually insulting sdot…can’t we all just get along?
Field degradation is still a possibility, but I haven’t heard more on whether it’ll make the cut or not.
I am getting LONGER RETURNS after the patch that was supposed to fix the supposed long return problem. I used to barely get to the 30 now ive consistently passed it and got to the 48 and 50 in one game. Dunno bout that.
Im 3-3 vs cpu, rushing is impossible.

It’s amazing that Timothy Daley and others can make comments like that. They’re obviously just dissapointed that they shelled out money for a game that did not live up to their expectations. When it came to getting the facts and info needed about the game, you were on top, even before the major gaming websites like IGN and Gamespot. Don’t let comments like Timothy’s get to you and keep up the good work.
Plus, all of you people fighting in a section reserved for thoughts about the patch, grow up. If you feel its so neccessary, make your own forum or something to “discuss” your pointless arguements.

u think this madden is too complicated last years was really simple but challening yet u can have fun no its like so difficult i think its not as easy to have fun
FYI: I did get confirmation that the second patch will fix the WR direct snap glitch.
All of you have to admit that it’s funny how worked up & passionate we get over Madden. EA is probably sitting back laughing at us saying “listen to all these sheep complaining about the game but yet making us rich”. EA could probably give a sh*t if there’s problems with the game. As long as we all buy it then that’s all they care about. That’s why they’re so good at marketing their games. Think about it, 2K doesn’t really advirtise their basketball game unti about a month before release yet they have arguably the best sports video game simulation on the market. EA starts advirtising their games like 8 months before release. Why is that? The old saying is “Bad press is better than no press”. That should be EA’s modo.

yeah but ea doesnt need to advertise madden either way it would still sell a great amount of copies because its ea just a big license that is known by all football fans

Pasta could you please take 2 minutes of your time and answer this question/serious concern I have. I appreciate all you have down with the Madden series and all, but are they going to addrees the skin color issue in the next patch? I highly, highly doubt they will as no one has really noticed it but players like Rodney Harrison and Jabar Gaffney are much darker than they should be. Players that have a light brown complexion are way too dark in this game. Do you notice this or is my TV set off? I’m almost positive it’s the game. If anyone else notices this could you reply and confirm.

WOW what a huge tool! Who does that over and over again? If you were to double team that reciever, press him, and then control a linebacker and move him over directly in front of the wide out does that stop it or not?

First this is a great website with lots of info. I dont expect you to find glitches in the game play but how in the world did you or anybody else think the game play had improved. In other words how could you think the D-backs and D in general was better. Did all you do was throw long balls, yes that has improved but everything else is horrible. Did you not run some of your plays from 08. It took me all of 5 minutes to figure this out, then again I run an offense. I came on here 2 days ago and idiots, like a poster named Fred, thought I was crazy. Now 4 days later its all over the place that you cant play man and the D in general sucks. This game is way overrated. Eliminate the rocket catch and WR double pass and a few other things from 08 and it is much better.
