  • Assessing the Fallout from MLB 2K13

MLB 2K13's release last week turned out to be an embarrassing attempt at swindling consumers into paying $60 for a year old product. No yearly licensed sports title has ever unabashedly embodied being "just a roster update" and in doing so justified the cliched criticism often directed by the uninformed at the genre. The game is actually worse than that though as it contains even less content than last year with the sneaking out of online leagues and it isn't be expected to receive much if a...

Both MLB 13: The Show and MLB 2K13 include the uniforms and batting practice caps for the 2013 All-Star game. The designs being worn for the All-Star festivities have yet to be officially revealed by the league but are available within the games. This year's event takes place at New York's Citi Field and as such the colors and logo are inspired by the Mets. Continue on to check out images for the AL and NL as captured from both titles. • MLB 2K13 Isn’t Just 2K12 With a Roster Update…It’s Less Than That

Having put in 35 innings of "work" with MLB 2K13 and time skimming through Association and MyPlayer modes there's really no reason to dig any deeper into the game to review. Conjecture that it would be 2K12 with a roster update and only the absolutely necessary changes like the Astros to the AL and new schedule was in fact on the mark and as it turns out generous. It's a product that on its own is certainly not 2K9 levels of bad, it's okay for those who don't care all that much about basebal...
  • Soundtrack for MLB 2K13
    by
    Posted March 5th, 2013 at 3:30 am 9 Comments ╗
With MLB 2K12 a fair amount of ridicule was thrown 2K Sports' way for counting the soundtrack among the game's five primary features. With 2K13 the company failed to promote anything including the soundtrack, but there is in fact a new playlist included. Continue on for the full rundown of 12 songs from 10 different artists.┬á (more…)...
  • In Unprecedented Fashion MLB 2K13 to Release Without Providing Any Information on How It Differs from Prior Iteration
    by
    Posted March 4th, 2013 at 9:30 am 40 Comments ╗
When the one year reprieve for the MLB 2K series was announced back in January expectations were set understandably low. The poorly regarded series had been cancelled only to be resurrected when MLB settled with significantly reduced terms in order to have a product on the market for the Xbox 360. Having baseball for the largest console base in North America was viewed as a necessity. However being saddled with a constrained development cycle along with a limited budget and no apparent futu...
  • Baseball Games Forgo Demos This Year But for Very Different Reasons
    by
    Posted February 26th, 2013 at 4:15 pm 35 Comments ╗
There will be no prerelease demos for MLB 2K13 and MLB 13: The Show. In the case of one, a lack of improvements and constrained development cycle would be to blame, while the other can rest on a stronger reputation negating the need in some eyes to release a demo.┬á (more…)...
  • Trailer for MLB 2K13
    by
    Posted February 21st, 2013 at 10:30 am 26 Comments ╗
Though 2K Sports continues to actively hide MLB 2K13 for all those interested in learning anything about the game, the one sure thing that was to arrive prior to release was an official trailer. There is nothing new to be gleaned from it unfortunately as it contains just the typical flashy replay footage, with the exception of spotting that they at least got the Astros their new uniforms, but it's something anyway.┬á (more…)...
  • 2K Combo Pack with MLB and NBA Returns But at Reduced Value
    by
    Posted February 19th, 2013 at 6:30 pm 6 Comments ╗
Last year 2K Sports bundled MLB 2K12 and NBA 2K12 in early March for $70 and limited it to the Xbox 360. The combo presented a good option for those who were already interested in MLB to spend just $10 more and get NBA along with it, acting as a quasi-price drop given that game was still going for $30+ on its own at that time. Amazon even offered a $10 promo credit with pre-orders making it essentially a $60 package for the two. The combo pack is back for MLB 2K13 and NBA 2K13 but this ti...
  • MLB 2K13 Being Kept Hidden Even With Release Right Around The Corner
    by
    Posted February 19th, 2013 at 9:30 am 32 Comments ╗
When the news broke that the MLB 2K series would be getting a one year reprieve expectations for the product were made justifiably lower than already had been normal. With a constrained development cycle and bleak outlook towards any future there became no reason to expect anything better than what would amount to an update of 2K12. In the month since the announcement 2K Sports has done nothing but further cement that troubled perception.┬á (more…)...
  • MLB 2K13 Perfect Game Challenge Will Split $1 Million Between 30 Winners
    by
    Posted February 11th, 2013 at 10:00 am 17 Comments ╗
Expectations for MLB 2K13 are lower than ever for the much maligned series after getting a one year reprieve. With three weeks to go until release no information on any potential improvements have been detailed and all that has been seen is a single sub-par screenshot. The one thing 2K Sports is willing to discuss though is the Perfect Game Challenge. Instead of just a single $1 million winner 2K13 will split the cash between 30 people (one perfect game for every MLB team) with each recei...
