I've gotten my hands on the features list for MLB 2K9. This represents the first real info for the game which is set to be in stores on March 3rd. As expected it appears that they've attempted to simplify several aspects of the game. The trading card system looks to have been improved and more has been done to add to the authenticity of the experience. Providing the basics such as a smooth framerate and solid online performance are a necessity for this year, but other than those things is...
  • MLB 09 The Show Cover Art

Adding to a heavy couple days of baseball related content, the MLB 09 The Show cover art has now slipped out. Even though we've known that Dustin Pedroia was the cover athlete for a month and now have the actual covers for the game SCEA has yet to confirm it via press release. Expect that to arrive in the near future. This is much later than usual for officially announcing the cover athlete. What do you think of Pedroia getting the cover? He won the AL MVP so it would be difficult to say ...
  • MLB 09 The Show Halfway to Spectator Mode

Buried in the extended details on the MLB 09 The Show website are a couple mentions related to online play that were not made in the fact sheet. At first glance I thought they were describing the same thing that MLB 08 had in the Gamecast feature where you could watch ongoing games as they updated the situation (score, outs, match-ups, on-base, ect). However there are some new aspects for 09. SportsConnect Live GameCast Using SportsConnect technology, users can view the status of any game ...

In addition to the earlier post announcing the upcoming MLB 09 The Show community event, a new set of screenshots for the game have been released. They can be found in the screenshot gallery and feature the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets. I'll have a posting within the next week or so to begin taking suggestions on things to look for at the community event. Also make sure to sign up and follow me on Twitter as I'll be doing quick updates throughout the trip....
  • Upcoming MLB 09 The Show Community Event

The end of the month will bring the first ever community event hosted by SCEA as myself and a select few others head down to San Diego to check out MLB 09 The Show. While the event takes place at a point in development where the game is already complete, this does provide an opportunity not only to collect information and impressions for 09 but also to begin offering invaluable feedback and suggestions to be considered going forward. *Inaugural San Diego Studios “MLB09 The Show” Commu...
  • Should MLB 2K9 Keep The Trading Cards?

Much has been made as to what changes are needed for MLB 2K9 to improve on last years disappointing effort. While we still have no details on what 2K has in store this year, NHL 2K9 probably provides the blueprint of what to expect considering the similar circumstances. Hopefully we will get more insight into MLB 2K9 in early-mid January, though because of the release of MLB Front Office Manager the bulk of the promotion may not come until February. What I was wondering about right now th...
  • Early MLB Front Office Manager Review

The latest OXM has the first review for MLB Front Office Manager. They gave it a 5/10 citing awful menus and a worthless manager mode though they did state the game was very in depth. Thanks to Jesse Behr from The 'Burgh Blues for sending the tip in. While the review would seem discouraging it sounds awful familiar to some of the ones that were handed out to NFL Head Coach 09. While I just couldn't get into that game, it did deliver the deep and very detailed experience that crowd was loo...
  • The Yankees Positioned As Top Video Game Team

For those looking forward to the MLB 09 The Show and MLB 2K9 it is always interesting to evaluate the free agent signings and contemplate how big of an impact they will have. The rosters that will ship with the games lock in mid-January meaning we are nearing that point. Release day roster updates have become the norm though negating the significance of the roster lockdown dates. Even when the Yankees are not the best team in baseball they always seem to translate as the best, or at least o...
