The BIGS 2: New Screenshots and First Info
Last week The BIGS 2 named Prince Fielder as the cover athlete and that was accompanied by a single screenshot and trailer featuring Fielder. Now there are eight new screens and they can be viewed in the gallery. There are a variety of players featured along with one image that comes from the game's Be a Legend career mode.
Gamespot also has an early preview of the game. Additions include the batting "wheelhouse", "legendary" players with extreme abilities, Become a Legend mode, Season ...
MLB 09 The Show Roster Update 4/13
The latest roster update for MLB 09 The Show came out earlier today. This is a significant one in that the players who appeared in their first MLB game can now have their real names included. Gary Sheffield also makes his way to the Mets roster.
For those of you who can't connect the PS3 online I have uploaded the file to be grabbed here. Unzip it and then transfer the folder to the saves area in the XMB. There are 183 player movements in this update. The highlights as designated by SCEA ...
Prince Fielder Cover Athlete For The BIGS 2
The first screenshot and a new trailer for The BIGS 2 is now out featuring cover athlete Prince Fielder. You can check out the full size screen in the gallery. While it has a similar look to the original The BIGS the player model of Fielder appears to be less exaggerated. The players in the game were overly stocky and large and here is Fielder, who is a big guy, and he almost looks more like you'd see him in a sim baseball offering.
Despite the two baseball games released this year by 2K ...
MLB 09 The Show Opening Day Roster Update
The Opening Day roster update for MLB 09 The Show came out earlier today. This update includes 210 player movements. For those of you who can't log into SportsConnect and download the update I have uploaded the file here to be retrieved manually. It needs to be unpacked and then the folder transferred over to the PS3 saves.
It turns out this might not be the update to settle on if you've been waiting to start a franchise. Gary Sheffield is listed as a free agent instead of being on the Me...
MLB 2K9 Patch Now Out
Last year 2K Sports released a patch for MLB 2K8 that wasn't especially effective, and at that didn't even bother to put it out for the PS3. Fortunately this year 2K decided to provide both the 360 and PS3 with a patch that attempts to improve on some of the problem areas in MLB 2K9. It is now out for both systems and the game will prompt you to download it when starting it up.
Areas of focus in the patch include the toning down of CPU batting aggressiveness as well as the frequency of ho...
Player Face Comparisons: 2K9 vs The Show
Now that everyone knows how MLB 2K9 and MLB 09 The Show turned out I thought it would be fun to compare some of the player faces from the games. Doing so always results in an interesting post-release discussion.
I randomly selected 10 well known players and in comparable situations. All images were taken through the HD PVR via component with 2K9 being the 360 version vs The Show PS3. Which game do you think came out on top the most?

The Wrap-Up: MLB 2K9
Heading into the release of MLB 2K9 there was a certain sense of optimism. Outside of one clearly identified problem everything pointed towards an improved offering, one that while maybe not great would be enough to satisfy baseball gaming fans on the 360. Unfortunately it didn't take long to realize that not only did that not turn out to be the case, but it is far worse than anyone would've anticipated.

The Wrap-Up: MLB 09 The Show
At times I've had some difficulty writing about The Show over the last couple months which is actually due to what a quality product 08 was. Usually you can assess the previous iteration and have an idea of what you're looking for out of the next. With 08 the only real glaring weakness was with online play. It is tougher to identify and discuss the improvements to a game when it was already so good to begin with.
So that's where I start when evaluating MLB 09 The Show. I already knew it w...
MLB 2K9 Online Impressions
Last year MLB 2K8 offered quite possibly the worst online experience of any sports game this generation. It was literally unplayable due to unbearable lag and delay. Given that the 2K Sports titles since have all had their share of major problems online I was hesitant to believe that 2K9 would be much better. However I have been pleasantly surprised with it so far. Continue on to read my full online impressions as well as watch some video examples.
