Assessing the Fallout from MLB 2K13
MLB 2K13's release last week turned out to be an embarrassing attempt at swindling consumers into paying $60 for a year old product. No yearly licensed sports title has ever unabashedly embodied being "just a roster update" and in doing so justified the cliched criticism often directed by the uninformed at the genre. The game is actually worse than that though as it contains even less content than last year with the sneaking out of online leagues and it isn't be expected to receive much if a...
MLB 13: The Show – Hits and Misses
As a series MLB: The Show has been the most consistent of all the yearly sports representations this generation. Consumers have come to rely on exceptional baseball authenticity, realistic gameplay, fantastic graphics, and deep franchise and career modes to invest time with. What has been missing though is sense of accessibility and an acceptable online experience. Those aspects however are no longer holding the franchise back.
MLB 13: The Show is the iteration that pulled everything tog...
Online Play Takes Tremendous Step Forward in MLB 13: The Show
Online play has forever been the Achilles' heel of the MLB: The Show series representing the worst sports gaming has had to offer in that area. When NBA 2K made strides last year it left The Show as the only sports franchise that was not providing an acceptable online experience. Regardless of the reasons why, online performance was typically awful, and the games were simply not fun to play due to the advantage held by the pitchers.
Based on the days following release of MLB 13: The Show ...
Your Thoughts So Far on MLB 13: The Show
Outside of Postseason mode MLB 13: The Show didn't carry with it a bevy of flashy new features. What it did do however was work to refine and enhance all aspects of the series while increasing accessibility. Outside of an issue with CPU pitchers serving up fat first pitches most at-bats and an occasional stutter out of the pitching delivery (both of which are documented quite well in threads on Operation Sports - first pitch meatballs here and stutter here - but also noted by myself) this ma...
Baseball Games Leak the All-Star Uniforms
Both MLB 13: The Show and MLB 2K13 include the uniforms and batting practice caps for the 2013 All-Star game. The designs being worn for the All-Star festivities have yet to be officially revealed by the league but are available within the games. This year's event takes place at New York's Citi Field and as such the colors and logo are inspired by the Mets. Continue on to check out images for the AL and NL as captured from both titles. MLB 13: The Show Release Day Roster Update
Yesterday when the online servers went live SCEA pushed out the first roster update for MLB 13: The Show. The most significant move comes the addition of Michael Bourn to the Indians. He signed on February 12 which was well after the cut-off date for the shipped roster. Continue on for a look at the primary changes made in the release day roster update! (more...)...
MLB 2K13 Isn’t Just 2K12 With a Roster Update…It’s Less Than That
Having put in 35 innings of "work" with MLB 2K13 and time skimming through Association and MyPlayer modes there's really no reason to dig any deeper into the game to review. Conjecture that it would be 2K12 with a roster update and only the absolutely necessary changes like the Astros to the AL and new schedule was in fact on the mark and as it turns out generous. It's a product that on its own is certainly not 2K9 levels of bad, it's okay for those who don't care all that much about basebal...
Soundtrack for MLB 2K13
With MLB 2K12 a fair amount of ridicule was thrown 2K Sports' way for counting the soundtrack among the game's five primary features. With 2K13 the company failed to promote anything including the soundtrack, but there is in fact a new playlist included. Continue on for the full rundown of 12 songs from 10 different artists. (more...)...
In Unprecedented Fashion MLB 2K13 to Release Without Providing Any Information on How It Differs from Prior Iteration
When the one year reprieve for the MLB 2K series was announced back in January expectations were set understandably low. The poorly regarded series had been cancelled only to be resurrected when MLB settled with significantly reduced terms in order to have a product on the market for the Xbox 360. Having baseball for the largest console base in North America was viewed as a necessity. However being saddled with a constrained development cycle along with a limited budget and no apparent futu...
More MLB 13: The Show Gameplay Videos
Earlier this week the first opportunity to see MLB 13: The Show in action slipped out. Reaction was mostly positive except as it relates to the commentary as the faults stood out even more against the backdrop of the Playoffs where the magnitude of each event is dramatically increased. Now additional videos are available to watch and evaluate with segments of gameplay featuring the White Sox at Cubs, Royals at Phillies, Angels at Tigers, and Angels at Nationals. Continue on to check them out...
