  • Server trouble continues to plague MLB The Show 17
    Posted April 15th, 2017 at 11:45 am 10 Comments »
MLB The Show 17 is an excellent game of baseball that is unfortunately dragged down by its server issues. That sums up my review of the game that published nearly two weeks ago and remains true to this day. On Thursday night the servers for MLB 17 went down completely for a considerable period of time and it appears that was just the start of a wave of trouble that would continue throughout Friday. Server outages were extensive, occurring both before the rollout of new content to Diamond...

The wait will continue for MLB The Show 17's first roster update. Developer Sony San Diego has announced a delay to the initially planned rollout of today and now state they're expecting to release it Friday, April 21. That first roster update will primarily focus on adding rookies that have made their MLB debut this season and will have few if any attribute changes. Still it's Friday which means Diamond Dynasty has been updated with some new content. First are the special "Bases Loaded...

    Posted April 11th, 2017 at 6:45 am 2 Comments »
The first post-release update for MLB The Show 17 went live this morning and among the work that's been done are fixes to online gameplay and names added to the back of the road uniforms for the Detroit Tigers. This appears to be a patch that was pushed out quickly to address some issues identified very early on, while a bigger one taking into account community feedback is still a ways off. There's likely more to be detailed here with today's update than just what is listed below and that i...

Coming off a win by MLB The Show 16 of the Press Row Podcast Sports Game of the Year Award, MLB The Show 17 reaches the marketplace with naturally high expectations. The series went big with Ken Griffey Jr. on the cover and found within various modes of play in the game, story-like elements for Road to the Show, new simulation features for Franchise Mode, and more content in Diamond Dynasty which looks to remain the consumer-favorite team-building mode. Server issues however have plague...
  • Review of MLB The Show 17
    Posted April 5th, 2017 at 8:45 am 30 Comments »
The MLB The Show series is nothing if not consistent and predictable, and that encompasses both the numerous ways in which it excels and any struggles or deficiencies it tends to carry over from one edition to the next. With MLB The Show 17 noteworthy effort has been put into sprucing up some areas of weakness such as incorporating story-like elements in Road to the Show and two new commentators in the booth, but otherwise there isn't a whole lot new to be spoken of feature wise. Diamond ...

Events are a new feature in MLB The Show 17's Diamond Dynasty, providing an additional purpose for lower-rated cards which will be useful depending on the various themes that will be applied to them. The first one has gone live today involving rosters filled with only Common and Bronze players and will remain open into next Tuesday.  (more…)...
  • MLB The Show 17 roundtable discussion
    Posted April 4th, 2017 at 7:15 am 4 Comments »
There's still a lot to cover with MLB The Show 17 including a full review and full panel podcast episode later this week, but first up is a piece put together by Kat Bailey at USgamer in which I contributed, as the two of us discuss initial feelings towards the latest entry in the series. We hit on first impressions related to Franchise Mode and the decision to improve it primarily through features intended to sim large portions of games/seasons, how well the story-elements added to Road ...
