  • Installing MLB 2K9 to the Hard Drive
    by pastapadre
    Posted March 3rd, 2009 at 3:38 pm
When the NXE update for the 360 came out back in November I analyzed the benefits that were seen when installing games and playing them from the hard drive. You can check out those results here. That was apparently a popular feature as I have received numerous requests to do the same with MLB 2K9. While I can't speak yet to any marginal performance improvements that may or may not come with the install I did compare loading times for the game when played with the disc vs the hard drive. ...
  • More From MLB 09 The Show
    by pastapadre
    Posted March 1st, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Before I get into more detailed discussions on MLB 09 The Show I decided to create a few more videos and a handful of screenshots. This is a lengthy process as the 6-10 minute videos take about two hours to upload and about as long to process and become HD. After this posting I will continue to include some videos but they will be more focused on a related topic. General impressions, an online play report (not good at all so far), and a "mini-review" will start to come tomorrow and throug...

    by pastapadre
    Posted March 1st, 2009 at 5:38 am
Having received my copy of MLB 09 The Show on Saturday afternoon I worked to make sure I could at least get up some videos and a handful of screenshots. Further coverage in the way of impressions, online play thoughts, a deeper look at some features and more videos and screens will come beginning Sunday night. Continue on to see nine screenshots and four different videos in HD. If you have any screenshot or match-up requests feel free to leave them in the comments and I'll pull some of th...
  • Early Response to 2K9 and The Show Online Play
    by pastapadre
    Posted February 28th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
As a baseball gaming fan it was frustrating to have both games last year struggle with online play. MLB 2K8 offered arguably the worst online play for any sports game this generation and MLB 08 The Show was only slightly better as performance was extremely inconsistent. So going into this year both 2K and SCEA have discussed how they expect online to be better. In the case of MLB 09 The Show I still had the sense that there wasn't much confidence that they had actually fixed lag issues, t...
  • Gametrailers Looks Foolish With New Video
    by pastapadre
    Posted February 26th, 2009 at 11:25 am
The latest video posted up on Gametrailers features MLB 2K9 and is labeled as though it is just a normal video displaying gameplay footage. It turns out however that the person responsible for it just played it like an ass and posted it anyway. This is a video going out for everyone to see pre-release that doesn't properly represent the game and that is unfortunate. There is a certain amount of respect you should give a game when the opportunity to provide consumers with early looks or in...
  • Serious Problem With MLB 2K9 Franchise Mode Discovered (Updated)
    by pastapadre
    Posted February 26th, 2009 at 7:48 am
As sites began receiving their copies of MLB 2K9 yesterday impressions have started flowing. The most alarming development however is the discovery of a major issue with franchise mode by Chase at Operation Sports. This is something that will negatively affect anyone who plays more than just the first year in franchise. You can start reading about the problem on this page of the forum thread and continue through it to follow further developments. What is happening is that CPU controlled t...
  • The BIGS 2 Coming This Summer
    by pastapadre
    Posted February 25th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Just the other day I wrote about my hope that someone would step up and produce an arcade baseball game. My original plea had always been for a sequel to The BIGS but no indication had been given that one was in the works. The BIGS was released in June 2007 and was my favorite sports title of the year. It mixed exaggerated action with solid strategic elements and also had one of the first online co-op modes to be offered. Thanks to a teaser trailer (as confirmed to me by Chase and through...
  • MLB 2K9 and 09 The Show Player Comparison Video
    by pastapadre
    Posted February 25th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I'm really enjoying creating the HD videos so I decided to do something a little different and make one that put MLB 09 The Show and MLB 2K9 right up against each other. This one isn't in full HD since I had to convert it but it still looks pretty good. I took at bats from Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, and Carl Crawford from the pitching perspective so you can compare graphics and signature stances among other things. Actually an unintended result of the video is displaying one of the probl...
  • MLB 09 The Show: Online Improvements
    by pastapadre
    Posted February 24th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
The most recent Playstation Blog entry for MLB 09 The Show details the online improvements coming to the game and contains a strong focus on the online league feature. You can read it in its entirety here. The draft system rivals that of any fantasy sports system. It allows from 6-30 players to hold a FULL LIVE Draft, with the ability to set your draft day/time, pick timer/length, chat (and harass), view the Player Card/stats of available players, view the Player Card stats of other users i...
  • MLB 2K9 Demo Impressions and Videos
    by pastapadre
    Posted February 24th, 2009 at 11:20 am
I wanted to get up some initial impressions of MLB 2K9 after running through the demo a couple times. By no means is this a definitive assessment of the game, but there are numerous things worth mentioning that I found to be positives as well as dislikes that I have come across already. Overall the reaction to the demo seems to be quite mixed with most everyone recognizing improvement but much of that being overshadowed by discussion of various issues. Continue on to read through my thoug...
