Sports games always take center stage at Electronic Arts' annual mid-June press briefing. Those previously linked with E3 instead now represent the kickoff to their own event EA Play. Given the leading soccer, football, and basketball titles are always among the top selling games in both North America and worldwide their high-profile presence should come as no surprise. Madden NFL 18, FIFA 18, and NBA Live 18 all were prominently featured in this weekend's EA Play press briefing. Madden h...

After taking a year off - the fourth time in the last seven years that a game has failed to release - EA Sports is looking to earn some credibility back with NBA Live 18 this fall. At EA Play today the company revealed its big feature as a Career Mode called "The One" along with some gameplay details and the announcement of a free demo.  (more…)...

The NBA Live franchise has now been delayed or cancelled four times over a seven year span. In releasing last quarter's fiscal report earlier today, EA Sports revealed the remaining release schedule for their calendar year that runs through the end of March. After being listed in Q4 (Jan-Mar) since NBA Live 17 was announced as being "delayed" last May the game has now been dropped from the calendar. It's not unusual to discover a game has been delayed or cancelled in this manner. In the in...
  • The first sign of life for the next NBA Live console game may have come from Korea

The South Korea Ratings Board recently classified a game called "The Drive to NBA Live" for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. This may be the first indication that the new NBA Live promised by EA to be out before April is nearing release, or the translation could be literal as far as it being an introduction in the form of a demo for that upcoming game. In America the Entertainment Software Rating Board has not rated anything new NBA Live. EA has a strong presence in South Korea with PC gam...
  • NBA Live Mobile now officially released

With EA Sports taking some time away from the NBA Live series on consoles in its place this year is NBA Live Mobile. The game first released in February with a Canadian soft launch. Reception from players was generally very positive and my review expressed a similar sentiment towards the free-to-play game based off the Ultimate Team model. A recent update however changed the way lineups are handled angering those who had invested in playing beforehand. A lot of time and possibly money ...
  • EA may have ruined the good thing they had going with latest update to NBA Live Mobile

When it initially launched I called NBA Live Mobile the best thing NBA Live since 2009 and gave it a positive review on Sporting News. Many agreed considering the game had fantastic user-scores. It was averaging well over 4 stars on iOS and sat at an impressive 4.6 on Android. That's all changed with a recent update that was made to the game that has resulted in a wave of 1 star reviews rolling in instead. The current updated version has a horrendous average rating of 2 stars on iTunes....

With today's addition of NBA Live 16 to the EA Access Vault all the EA Sports games from 2015 are now included with the subscription service. While there won't be another NBA Live until maybe sometime next year - whether that even materializes will remain to be seen - those on Xbox One can now play Live 16 in unlimited fashion as long as a subscription is active. This is the fifth and final EA Sports game from 2015 to reach the Vault in EA Access. It follows Madden NFL 16 which was add...
  • Press Row Podcast: NBA Live in for another shake-up

    Posted May 11th, 2016 at 9:30 am 11 Comments »
EA Sports has been unable to recover from the attempted reboot of NBA Live as NBA Elite while at the same time seeing their competition flourish to become a juggernaut. It's been six years but the company has yet to produce a compelling quality product since that fiasco and in the process consumers have lost all confidence in the Live brand. The series can't escape its past. Knowing that a shake-up was necessary EA yesterday confirmed the first report of Live being pushed back to 2017. ...
