Just as they did last year EA Sports is offering free downloadable content for NBA Live 09 in celebration of All-Star Weekend. The NBA All Star Weekend 09 Pack is now available on XBL. Last year the DLC only came to the 360 and I am waiting on a response back on whether the PS3 will be receiving it this year. Update: The PS3 will get the DLC next Thursday. The download includes the official East and West jerseys and All Star Game court. With a roster update coming tomorrow the All Star te...

The battle in NBA Live 09  Online Team Play between Team Pastapadre and Team NBA Live Developers took place on Friday. PP took the Trailblazers while the Devs took the Magic. I was joined by bdiddy51791 (Rudy Fernandez), SECRT AG3NT Man (Greg Oden), and Hawkfan23114 (Lamarcus Aldridge). I controlled Brandon Roy. We also had Cabrillo24 in but lost him before tip-off. Thanks for everyone who got to participate as well as those of you who intended to but didn't make it in time. It was a ...

This Friday we have an opportunity to put together an online team play club outing against a group of NBA Live developers (on the 360). I'll be recording the game which will be posted up over the weekend along with a recap and stats. The game will likely begin at 630ET/330PT on Friday and I will update the start time if any changes are made. If you would like to take part leave your gamertag in the comments. If you are already a member of the Pastapadre Club then your spot will be held by...
  • NBA Live Top 10 Highlights
    by
    Posted January 11th, 2009 at 11:12 am 76 Comments »
EA Sports World has now started featuring highlights from NBA Live 09 in their weekly top 10 videos. Previously they had been doing so for several other 09 titles. You can watch the latest by clicking here and the video player is off to the right side of the page. This one is definitely worth checking out. Not only does one of my videos make an appearance, but it is easily the most entertaining one to date. I didn't expect it to be so damn funny. The Thompson Brothers have done a good job...
  • View DNA Data Online
    by
    Posted January 7th, 2009 at 9:19 am 40 Comments »
The NBA Live 09 website has just added a widget that will display the DNA of any player in the NBA. The DNA will be updated daily on the site so that it is always current. The data that is provided is fascinating to look through and analyze as an NBA fan and now being able to do so on the web instead of having to fire up NBA Live 09 makes it much more convenient. This is just the basic DNA layout though and there is much more that can be found by going through the game. Hopefully someday ...
  • #5 of 2008: NBA Live 09

The NBA is one place where EA Sports now plays the role of the underdog. That isn't a familiar scenario for them. How did they react with NBA Live 09? Improved gameplay and a big investment in the future. While the game still had issues it provided an enjoyable experience with fully functioning modes and a variety of features. NBA Live 09 had the most innovative addition of any game this year with Live 365. While its value to the game remains questionable it does offer a great deal. Not o...
  • #6 of 2008: NBA 2K9
    by
    Posted December 13th, 2008 at 1:31 pm 112 Comments »
This was the year, as we've seen with the sales numbers, that consumers overwhelmingly identified the NBA 2K series as the definitive choice for basketball gamers. Being #1 sometimes brings side effects and that has been seen through some dissatisfaction and growing pains. Outside of that though what NBA 2K9 offers is a familiar enjoyable gameplay experience. With all three basketball games this year offering something different, what 2K9 stood out in was the gameplay. That includes being...
  • NBA 2K9 Team-Up Mode Not Fixed By Patch
    by
    Posted December 3rd, 2008 at 9:35 pm 116 Comments »
One of the supposed fixes in the patch for NBA 2K9 was to make the 5 on 5 Team-Up mode playable. The mode has never worked properly having been inflicted with crippling lag (the worst I've ever experienced), disconnects, and frustration. I was concerned with the wording in the patch details and wanted to see how much it improved the performance. Two months after release would Team-Up mode actually function properly and deliver what was advertised? The short answer to that is no. I spent a...

The patch for NBA 2K9 will be available for the PS3 early Wednesday morning and should follow for the 360 in the near future. There are a pretty significant number of fixes and improvements included in the patch. It'll be interesting to find out how much is seen in regards to online play, especially with the Team-Up mode. Continue on for the full list of what has been addressed. Update: The patch is already out for the 360. (more...)...

A few games have now been played since the trading that went down in the NBA between the Knicks, Warriors, and Clippers. The Knicks gained Tim Thomas, Cuttino Mobley, and Al Harrington. The Warriors received Jamal Crawford while the Clippers got Zach Randolph. Now that NBA Live 09 has received the data from these first games with their new teams we can look at how the players are adapting via their DNA make-up as of 11/30. (more...)...
