Usually by this point in the year not only has the upcoming Madden been officially "announced" but the marketing cycle kicked off with cover related activities. The trend of fan voting to choose representatives for the cover has lost significant steam as of late however and it seems evident now that Madden NFL 15 is unlikely to feature a tournament and may go away from fan cover selection completely.  (more…)...

In the process there are also a number of ways in which the game is both praised and criticized based on the various observations, developments, and controversies. Check out the recorded ...
  • The Most Valuable NFL Free Agents Heading Into The Next Madden

    Posted March 6th, 2014 at 4:45 pm 3 Comments
There is really no period of irrelevance for the NFL especially now that events have been spread out further to ensure something big happens every month of the year. The next in line is the start of free agency which opens up Tuesday afternoon. Madden ratings do not fluctuate much from the final roster update of the previous season. Players may or may not come in with the same exact rating but they'll typically be within a point or two of where they stood before if changes have been made....
  • NCAA Ordered to Talk Settlement in O’Bannon Case; Eventual Resolution Will Determine Future of College Sports Video Games
    by
    Posted March 3rd, 2014 at 1:30 pm 21 Comments
Last week the judge in the Ed O'Bannon class-action case vs the NCAA ordered the two sides to enter settlement talks. Naturally questions have started to come in about whether this could accelerate a return of college football (and other sports) video games. There is no longer a video game element to the case - although Sam Keller has continued to argue that he was not a part of the earlier settlement that got Electronic Arts and Collegiate Licensing Company out of it. A conclusion to lit...

    Posted January 30th, 2014 at 3:00 pm 19 Comments
Rumors of a football game from the makers of Out of the Park Baseball and Franchise Hockey Manager have been essentially confirmed today after "leaking" information to Operation Sports and then promoting it on their Facebook and Twitter feeds. Beyond the Sideline Football appears then to be the third PC sim management game from the developer. Beyond the Sideline will feature real NFL players and teams, real colleges and actual prospects to draft by name, all the same rules and regulations...
  • EA’s Deal With NFL No Surprise But Questions Remain Including Exclusivity Status
    by
    Posted January 29th, 2014 at 3:30 pm 44 Comments
Somewhat lost in the news yesterday that Electronic Arts has several years ahead under current deals with the NFL was the lack of specifics relating to terms. Many reports that followed have made the assumption nothing changed through the process despite evidence to the contrary. Just two years ago it was made clear that EA would not re-up without new consideration to the market value of the license and their standing as the only company prepared to release a product up the the league's stan...
