Tecmo Bowl Throwback arrived for download on XBLA early this morning and carries a price of 800 MS points ($10). A release date for the PS3 still has not been announced. Tecmo Bowl Throwback is a remake of Tecmo Super Bowl and contains the same rosters from 1993. The team and player names will be changed, due to the lack of NFL license, but the rosters will be identical in terms of player makeup. If you are interested in looking them over they can be found here. The game features the abil...

Quick Hit Football, the free browser based football management sim, has announced a new representative that will be featured in the game for the 2010 year. New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss has signed on to appear as one of the five 'Starters' which are comprised of current NFL players. Moss, who holds the NFL single season touchdown reception record, is the perfect player to lead Quick Hit’s team of Starters given his speed and agility – two core elements of Quick Hit F...

A release date for Tecmo Bowl Throwback has finally been set with the game arriving on XBLA on Wednesday April 28th. It will sell for 800 MS points on the 360 and the equivalent $10 on the PS3. (Update) There is now some question whether the PS3 will get it next week also. Should more info become available I will add that to the story. • Backbreaker Release Date Change Confirmed
    by
    Posted April 14th, 2010 at 11:50 am 19 Comments »
Yesterday I posted about the confusion over the release date for Backbreaker, which after having settled on an official date of May 25th appeared to be in limbo. Today it was confirmed on the Backbreaker forum that the game has been delayed by a week and is now (tentatively) set to come out on June 1st. But we aren't going to rush this. We'll release it when we are ready to. You'll have seen already that the release date has been bumped back a week. We're happy with the extra time that 505 ...
  • Backbreaker Release Date Questions Return

    Posted April 13th, 2010 at 9:40 am 23 Comments »
Despite Backbreaker having a history of release date shifting it finally appeared to have settled into May 25th. With that approaching there are now signs that it may not be hitting that date. Amazon, Gamefly, and Walmart have shifted the release to June 1st. Gamestop, usually the first indicator of a release date change, still has it slated for 5/25. Generally though retailers do not make changes without having reason to do so, and as such confirmation could be coming in the near future one w...
  • The Latest Backbreaker Preview

Game Informer has released the most comprehensive preview of Backbreaker yet. For the most part the preview is very harsh on the game. As I've said from the start it is important to manage expectations. Backbreaker has the potential to be a fun game, but it will not be a comprehensive sim or be able to capitalize on every element of a football game that the hardcore crowd feels is necessary. Check out the complete preview here. My first hand-on time with Backbreaker left me with mixed impress...

Gametrailers has released a video interview with one of the producers of the upcoming XBL/PSN downloadable title Tecmo Bowl Throwback. Included in the video is the opportunity to see the first gameplay footage. Much of the discussion centers around the ability to play in either 3D or in the retro 2D. The 3D version of play offers an updated feel and a much wider range of vision. There has been no release date set but all signs point to it arriving in April. Continue on to check out the vide...

Coming out of the Game Developer's Conference is the first directly captured gameplay footage of Backbreaker by independent outlets. Both IGN and Gametrailers have released videos while IGN also includes updated hands-on impressions. The event provided the first opportunity for media types to try out the game's splitscreen multiplayer. That doesn't mean that there weren't still issues present. I'm still not a huge fan of how Backbreaker handles running the ball outside and switching players...
  • Backbreaker Release Pushed Back A Week
    by
    Posted March 11th, 2010 at 6:39 pm 39 Comments »
The release date for Backbreaker appears to have been pushed back by a week to May 25th. Why this would be done remains a mystery but retailers including Gamestop, Amazon, and Gamefly along with gaming sites such as IGN and Gamespot all show the new date meaning 505 Games has informed them of the change. At this point a delay of a week would not seem to signify that there are issues at hand with the game as anything serious would not be solved in such a short period of time. Still this creates...

IGN and Gamespot have posted the first hands-on previews for Backbreaker. The Euphoria driven football game is slated to release on May 18th and this is the first opportunity the media outlets have had to actually play the game. Gamespot: Camera angles aside, developers are aiming to make Backbreaker an easy game to pick up and play. IGN: The actual football itself hadn't changed all that much in the last year, which is surprising given the amount of time Backbreaker has been in hiding. The...
