Early 2009 Brings New Trio of Releases
Generally the months of January and February are relatively thin when it comes to sports releases. The MLB titles arrive either in the last week of February or the first week of March. Leading up to that there has usually been one or two games released early on in the year. In the past that has ended up as a Street game (NBA, NFL, FIFA).
This year there is more variety being offered. First 2K Sports announced MLB Front Office Manager (January 27th for $39.99). Then EA Sports revealed Nasc...
First Nascar Kart Racing Details
Not long ago I posted about the introduction of Nascar to the Wii. Rather than a sim representation EA Sports decided to go with a Kart theme. While my general feeling that the Wii audience won't be interested in a game with Nascar in the title still stands, we do have some more details on Nascar Kart Racing via ESPN's Jon Robinson which make it sounds as though it could turn out to be a fun game.
So what should you expect? How about Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart dropping oil slicks behind t...
Top 10 Sports Games of the Year
Over the coming weeks I'll be listing out my Top 10 Games of the Year. This won't be a recap of the 10 highest rated games per Metacritic...reviews be damned. However it will be a summary of how I view the them from what has turned out to be one of the best years ever for sports gamers.
Some of the factors of consideration I have gone through are longevity, fun factor, general gameplay, technical achievements, online experience, and innovation. Last year the game that would've taken the t...
Black Friday Deals
I can't imagine any of these deals being worth the hassle of going out on Black Friday, then again I'd rather pay more money for things just to avoid the crowds. So I'd be looking at Amazon which has some good deals tomorrow. Here are some of the sports games that are seeing their prices cut for the busiest shopping day of the year. Walmart and Amazon have the best deals for the EA Sports titles with Target being the place to pick up NBA 2K9 unless you're in the market for a 360 and you can ...
Nascar Coming To The Wii
The Wiire has news today that EA Sports is developing Nascar for the Wii. Apparently it will not attempt to replicate the Nascar games on the 360 or PS3 and instead will go the route of driving karts, possibly with caricatures of the licensed drivers.
No telling yet if heads of drivers will be massively oversized to balance out the cartoonish nature of the karts. While the karts may resemble an idea from Mario Kart, most likely the tracks will remain the same oval shape, true to the NASCAR ...
NXE Update Improving Game Experiences
One of the anticipated elements to the New Xbox Experience (NXE) is the ability to install the games to the hard drive. While the disc is still required to be in the 360 while playing, drawing from the hard drive is supposed to put less strain on the hardware as well as decrease loading times as the disc isn't spinning or being read.
So I thought I would go through and experiment with some of the more recent sports titles to see what if any effect is had by installing the game to the hard...
EA and Gamestop Team Up For Season Pass?
Making the rounds today is a graphic that details an EA Sports Season Pass that would be available only at Gamestop. According to the details it would cost $20 and then provide 33% off the purchase of all EA Sports titles throughout the year.
There are a couple things that seem off about this to me. The first is that the cost of the Season Pass would be equal to the savings on the first game purchased. Generally something like this would be used as an incentive to get consumers to buy mor...
2K Looking At Micro-Transaction and Subscription Possibilities
Amongst discussion on how multiple companies including EA are attempting to combat the lost revenue from used sales comes more talk on the subject, this time from the head of Take Two Strauss Zelnick. The presentation at the BMO Capital Market's Conference was accompanied by the image above which uses the example of 2K Sports' MLB series and how they could benefit from micro-transactions.
When EA Sports canceled many of the PC offerings for this year I predicted a move towards free-to-pla...
Live 365 Subscription Sign of Industry Wide Trend
While NBA Live 09's 365 feature is free to those who purchase the game new with the code that is included in the packaging, much discussion has taken place regarding how those who pick up the game used need to purchase the code separately ($10) in order to access the feature. Over the past couple years the industry has been looking at ways to reduce the negative effect that the used game market is having on them.
The structure of how EA is offering 365 is one way to accomplish that and we...
Want Your EASW Highlight To Make The Top 10?
While the videos for the highlight contest will be up for voting on this weekend, there is another way to get attention for your favorite game clips. As mentioned a while back EA Sports World has a weekly Top 10 countdown with commentary by the Thompson Brothers. One of the initial complaints was that the clips weren't that great...that they were too focused on offense, or spotlighted ridiculous events like Eli Manning stiff-arming guys down the field.
So here is an opportunity to put you...
