Late last night I posted an article regarding the lack of NHL 2K11 being mentioned in the list of titles for Take Two over the next fiscal year. NHL 2K had been included in the report in previous years making its omission glaring. The situation is mirroring that of College Hoops before it was officially canceled. Chris Littmann at First Cuts was able to get comment from 2K Sports regarding the future of NHL 2K. As he points out the following statement speaks volumes as to the situation. ...

Ever since Take Two decided to shut down College Hoops due to the lack of sales potential vs development costs the next game that appeared to be in danger was the NHL 2K series. Sales have been dropping to miniscule levels as EA Sports NHL has grown and dominated the market. While it has been clear that resources have been limited with NHL 2K there have been no official statements made as to the future of the franchise. However now there is an indication that NHL 2K11 may not be in develo...

The ranking of games in the best of 2009 list is based primarily on the personal amount of enjoyment had with a particular title. Some other factors include whether advertised features were fully delivered on, post-release support, community interaction and communication, overall gameplay experience, feature set, and online play performance. Again this is a personal take on the games. The analysis is weighted largely towards those which I had the most fun with while considering them as a who...
  • EA Sports Facing Tough Decision on Tiger

Over a week ago I wrote my first take on the Tiger Woods situation. At the time it was basically just about infidelity and suspicious circumstances surrounding a car accident. Sponsors were sticking by him and public opinion, while down, was still in support of him as a sports figure. That all has spiraled down since with news that has worsened on a daily basis significantly changing perception. It now may just be a matter of time before EA Sports has to drop Tiger as the face of their golf ...
  • Madden 10 Top Sports Game in November

NPD released the official sales numbers for November yesterday. With the number of big titles that came out during the month the top 20 included just one sports game. What sports game that was does come as mild surprise. (more...)...

Recently EA Sports pulled the latest downloadable content for Fight Night Round 4 known as the "Champions Pack 2" from the Xbox 360 Marketplace. This was after consumers who downloaded it reported it was causing consoles to freeze. The initial word was that it would be fixed, resubmitted, and hopefully available once again before Christmas. Earlier tonight though in a statement on the game's official forum an updated plan was laid out. A patch to fix an exploit will be coming in mid-late ...
  • EA Sports Announcing New Game in January

In a time where games are being shaved from the EA portfolio comes news that a new EA Sports game is on the horizon. As tweeted this evening by an EA Canada community manager a new title will be announced in January. So the speculation begins as to what that game will be. My gut feeling on this is that it will be a WWE offering. The license between the WWE and THQ had its deadline for notice of renewal pass. Once that happened the WWE extended that deadline to December 31st. It is possibl...
  • Thoughts on the Tiger Woods Developments

The annual installment of the Tiger Woods franchise is still about six months away but recent news has brought into question whether endorsers will continue to support him. Major ones like Nike, Gillette, and EA Sports have released public support with no indication that any would even consider withdrawing from their respective contracts. Tiger Woods continues to be the most marketable name and figure in the world. There is no way those companies could replace him with any athlete of simi...
