  • Installing MLB 2K9 to the Hard Drive

When the NXE update for the 360 came out back in November I analyzed the benefits that were seen when installing games and playing them from the hard drive. You can check out those results here. That was apparently a popular feature as I have received numerous requests to do the same with MLB 2K9. While I can't speak yet to any marginal performance improvements that may or may not come with the install I did compare loading times for the game when played with the disc vs the hard drive. ...
  • EA Should Consider An Arcade Baseball Game

With 2K Sports holding the third-party MLB license they have tried to squeeze the most out of it by branching out through several off-titles. The BIGS, MLB Front Office Manager, MLB Superstars, MLB Stickball, MLB Fantasy All-Stars, and MLB Power Pros (as distributor). What has frustrated me as of late is that they haven't followed up with a sequel to The BIGS which is a game I enjoyed immensely, sold relatively well, and had a lot of potential for ways to be even better. Recently EA Sport...

While it was known that NCAA Football 10 would include the procedural awareness that was discussed for Madden, the first NCAA focused offering has hit the Inside EA Blog here. The feature revealed is not an exciting one but to a small segment of the hardcore base. It is QB Auto-Pass which results in a quasi coach mode. As the NFL season has ended the Top 10 videos on EA Sports World for Madden will be taking on some various themes. This week it was Anquan Boldin on a new team. I of ...

Gamespot continues some good MLB 2K9 coverage with user-requested screenshots and full team ratings. ESPN has an interview with NBA Live 10 producers. This is a pretty compelling interview for anyone interested in where the series is headed. The Playstation Blog recapped the recent MLB 09 The Show Community Preview. It turned out to be a really worthwhile experience and hopefully SCEA continues expanding their community interaction. Now just a week away from the Fight Ni...
  • Reviewers Get One Right and One Wrong

The first two sports titles of the year have been released in MLB Front Office Manager and 3 on 3 NHL Arcade. Both have been hit hard by reviewers despite their lower prices. In the case of MLB FOM I had some positive hopes for it and initially liked it but a couple major issues have negated all that and with a patch unlikely there isn't much hope of getting much enjoyment out of the game. On the other hand 3 on 3 NHL Arcade delivers exactly what it promised as a light-hearted fun offering b...

Another long day with MLB 09 The Show is complete. This time around my time was split between exhibition games, Road To The Show, practice drills, and grabbing screenshots and some video highlights. I'm not sure when I'll have those screens and clips back from SCEA but I'm hopeful that will happen by the end of the weekend. Out of those things about all I can discuss right now is the gameplay. The others will have to wait for another day. If you missed the first report from the event make...

After about five hours with the game today and more than that to come tomorrow there will be plenty to discuss about MLB 09 The Show. I wanted to get some initial thoughts up now and follow that up with one that will probably be more extensive tomorrow night. First, there are some restrictions to what I am able to talk about. Those basically amount to the topics that are slated for coverage in the upcoming weekly Playstation Blog postings. I'll be able to go over those areas a day after t...
  • Off To See MLB 09 The Show

I'm heading out now to begin the relatively short trip down the coast to San Diego for the MLB 09 The Show Community Preview Event at SCEA. The current plan is to get a handful of hours in with the game today and then spend the majority of tomorrow playing as well. As of now I'm still somewhat uncertain of what I'll be able to do at the event. If the circumstances present themselves I'll do a running live blog from the studio for a short period of time such as I did while at the NCAA Foot...
