Madden 10 is now officially out so it'd be great to hear some more general impressions and reaction from those of you playing the game now. Over the last week I've put together prerelease coverage which you can find the links to below in case you missed any of it. Going forward I'll have more about Online Franchise as we get into the mode and see how it all plays out. Also of note the next roster update will come on Wednesday August 19th and will see the arrival of Michael Vick on the Eagles...
  • Michael Vick Joins The Eagles

With the news that Michael Vick has signed a two year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles there is a lot of questions still left to be answered. How effective will he be after two years away from football? What will this do to the chemistry of the locker room and distractions from the media? How will the team utilize him on a team that already has explosive offensive weapons and why would they want to take Donovan McNabb off the field even for a few plays each game? Looking at the move in t...
  • Madden NFL 10 Online Impressions

Online play has been a mixed bag for Madden over the last few years. It is one of the most heavily played games online yet it lacked consistently requested options and features and also was plagued by disconnects and occasional lag. For Madden 10 the biggest addition is obviously Online Franchise, but also there is Online Co-Op and smaller but relevant changes like the ability to set your depth charts to use in the online games. The Online Franchise servers just went live last night so un...
  • Madden NFL 10 Impressions

Madden has remained the most highly anticipated sports franchise in the US despite releases this generation that are looked back upon with disappointment. This year for Madden 10 the development team took a more serious approach focused on authenticity, presentation, and gameplay enhancements. After getting time in with it at E3 I didn't really have a great feel for how it would ultimately be received and what longevity it would offer even though many of the improvements were evident. Aft...
  • Madden 10 Video Blowout #3

Continuing with the series of HD quality videos from Madden 10 this set focuses on franchise mode, in particular the halftime and Extra Point franchise shows. I've really enjoyed these even though they are somewhat lacking. There certainly is the base for something special here. I've found that I sit through all the highlights which is something I've never done before. I'll talk more about them in detail in my full impressions. I've decided to hold the online play videos until I put up my...
  • Madden 10 Video Blowout #2

Here is another set of HD quality Madden 10 gameplay videos. Featured in this bunch of videos are the Redskins @ Eagles (in the snow), Packers @ Lions, Chiefs @ Raiders (in the rain), and Chargers @ Broncos (in heavy snow with the "wide" camera angle). Weather conditions really have an effect as you'll see players slipping on occasion. When that happens as a WR the icon disappears and as a QB you are momentarily unable to throw. Tomorrow afternoon I'll get up some clips from online games ...

Here is the first group of HD quality videos I've captured from Madden 10. In this batch you'll find short clips against the CPU with the Dolphins @ Jets, Buccaneers @ Saints, and the halftime show from Rams @ Seahawks. There are also user vs user late 4th quarter videos as I attempt to make a comeback as the Texans against the Vikings and Jerkfacefave attempts a comeback late as the Titans against the Panthers in a defensive battle. Tonight I'll add in some more videos against the CPU as we...
  • Teams That Benefit Most From Adding Vick

    Posted July 28th, 2009 at 6:56 am
As most everyone is surely aware by now, Michael Vick has been granted a conditional reinstatement to the NFL. Vick is allowed to take part in all practices, team meetings and workouts as well as play in the final two preseason games. However it may not be until week six that final clearance comes from Roger Goodell for Vick to play in a regular season game. As Vick has immediately become a free agent expect him to be in the release day roster update for Madden 10 regardless of whether he...
  • Fight Night Knocked Out in June Sales
    by pastapadre
    Posted July 16th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Fight Night has proven one of the few sports franchises that has mainstream appeal. Fight Night Round 3 represented the second strongest franchise in US sales for EA Sports behind only Madden. After taking a few years off Fight Night Round 4 came out last month though it was difficult to judge the buzz around the game. Discussion online primarily centered around the controversial decision to remove the optional button control scheme and UFC 2009 Undisputed had released to high praise. We ...
  • FNR4 360 Hard Drive Performance Evaluation

Something I've done in that past that has been popular is taking a look at the differences in games on the 360 when played from disc vs the hard drive. Installing to the HDD has shown performance improvements in the games as well as cutting down on the stress to and noise from the console. Here is a look at the difference being seen in Fight Night Round 4. (more...)...
