DVD/Blu-ray for Week of November 22nd
This week represents the final set of new DVD and Blu-ray releases heading into Black Friday. The group is led by the J.J. Abrams film Super 8, which is one of my favorites of the year, along with the box office bomb Conan the Barbarian. (more...)...
New Episodes of Arrested Development Will Air Exclusively on Netflix
Recently it was announced that not only was a movie for Arrested Development in the works but a brand new season would precede it. Where it would air was up in the air until today as Netflix has announced the all-new episodes of the series will be offered exclusively through their streaming service with an expected debut in the first half of 2013.
"Netflix's bold entrance into original programming presents an exciting new opportunity for our two companies" commented Peter Levinsohn, Fox F...
Dexter Renewed for Two More Seasons
Showtime today announced they have picked up the popular series Dexter for an additional two seasons - that will take it through eight full seasons where it is likely to end. The only thing holding back the renewal until now had been getting star Michael C. Hall signed and once that was completed the network immediately made the announcement.
Dexterâs enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,â ...
Starz Renews Spartacus Months Before Second Season Even Premieres
Today Starz announced that Spartacus has been renewed for a third season - even as its second isn't slated to start up until January 27th. Liam McIntyre takes over the lead role in Spartacus: Vengeance after the terribly sad passing of star Andy Whitfield. Production on the third season (yet to be named) will begin in 2012 and is likely to air in early 2013.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand premiered in 2010 and became the network's first real breakout hit in original programming. The series' fi...
DVD/Blu-ray for Week of November 8th
This week of DVD/Blu-ray releases is headlined by the final entry in the Harry Potter franchise with Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The film earned over $1.3 billion worldwide and delivered a fantastic critical response with 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. With that one swallowing up all the attention other studios for the most part avoided releasing anything significant this week. The Change-Up is notable but mostly for having bombed in theaters.

DVD/Blu-ray for Week of November 1st
Though it was the least successful of any Pixar film Cars 2 went on to make nearly $200 million and leads the way in this week of releases. Crazy, Stupid, Love did well considering its budget - getting some great reviews along the way - and with Water for Elephants makes for two solid options for the more mature crowd.

The Walking Dead Gets Third Season Renewal
There was no question that it would happen but today AMC made it official - the network has picked up the zombie-survival comic adaptation The Walking Dead for a third season. The news comes after only two episodes of season two have aired both of which have delivered enormous ratings with the premiere breaking cable ratings records and the follow-up only dropping off slightly. The third season is expected to be 13 episodes - the same as the current season will run - and will debut next fa...
The Walking Dead Season Two Premiere Sets New Ratings Highs
Last year The Walking Dead became the highest rated cable show of all-time. The second season season premiere last night shattered those numbers as it bought in 7.3 million viewers for the first showing and 11 million total for the evening when counting the encore. The critical 18-49 demo had a 4.2 rating breaking previous cable records.
The premiere drew rave reviews but reaction amongst viewers has been decidedly more mixed. While I enjoyed the episode the pacing was hampered severely b...
DVD/Blu-ray Releases for Week of October 18th
There's a little bit of everything releasing on DVD/Blu-ray this week - headlined by the worldwide smash hit (though less so in the US) with the fourth entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. There is also the raunchy R rated comedy Bad Teacher, Kevin Smith's uniquely distributed horror film Red State, and the kids/teen focused Monte Carlo. The animated Batman: Year One (which is getting some really good reviews) debuts along with classics The Goonies and The Crow getting their firs...
