Offense
The Seahawk offense is lead by savvy veteran leader Matt Hasselbeck, who led the team to a playoff run with the offense largely depending on his arm for the first time. Last season after struggling with the running game Mike Holmgren called out the flawed run game and announced he would be throwing the ball with Hasselbeck more than ever before.

But now gone is longtime staple at the halfback position Shaun Alexander, who was released in the offseason to make room for newcomers Julius Jones and short yardage specialist T.J. Duckett. Combined with longtime second stringer Maurice Morris, the running game should largely fall on Jones' shoulders beginning at the start of the season. While Morris looks to get some snaps at the position, Jones will likely be the one shouldering most of the carries.

At receiver there are big question marks surrounding Deion Branch, who had knee surgery after the Green Bay playoff loss last season. He could start the season on the sidelines while Nate Burleson is slipped into the flanker role, but as of now it looks like he may be ready to play come Buffalo. Bobby Engram had a career year last year and looks to be Hasselbeck's favorite target yet again. However contract issues linger with him, and Seattle will have to deal with a possible departure at the end of the year via free agency.

Tight End looks to be the most confusing position, but it appears as if rookie John Carlson is the likely starter. Will Heller will be used mostly in Red Zone situations while Carlson continues to grow.

Finally it appears as if Seattle was able to shore up their offensive line problem from last year by signing Mike Wahle to fill the void that had been left by Steve Hutchinson two years ago. Teamed with arguably the best tackle in the NFL in Walter Jones, the left side should be the unbreakable side opposed to Hasselbeck's blindside. However the center, Chris Spencer, and right guard, Rob Sims, both failed to significantly advance their game last season. However at right tackle things are in tune with the left side where Sean Locklear continues to be one of the best and most underrated tackles in the game.

Defense
Defensive line is a pretty solid unit for the Seahawks, of course it will be for any team when Patrick Kerney is one of your defensive ends. Kerney finished second in DPOY voting last year, and set a career high number in sacks in his first season in Seattle. At defensive tackle expect solid players in Brandon Mebane and the ever reliable Rocky Bernard to start. However at right end there is some competition brewing with the recent drafting of Lawrence Jackson in the first round. Darryl Tapp appears to be the starter, but Jackson could slide right in should Tapp struggle.

Linebackers are great. Best in the league. Peterson, Tatupu, Hill. 'Nuff said (although it appears as if signing Hill to a long term deal is the top issue for the front office.)

The secondary looks to be the best it has been in years. Macus Trufant is an All-Pro, Kelly Jennings made significant strides last year, and Brian Russell teamed with Deon Grant in the safety roles proved to be extremely effective against the pass. Josh Wilson, last year's second round pick, is also expected to see some playing time in the secondary as well as a kick returner.

MannyBeltre,

Wow. Your franchise is shaping up to be a great one. You're really loaded, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Good luck!

Holmgren Lays Out Goals For '08

RENTON- With training camp just starting and the first pre-season game against Minnesota quickly approaching, Seahawks head coach was visibly more intense in practice Wednesday morning as the team was practicing for the first time at their new 75 million dollar team headquarters on the shores of Lake Washington. The view was nice from the practice field, but apparently the players were caught looking at the scenery a little to often as the ended up with some extra running drills before Holmgren let them call it a day.

In his press conference, Holmgren made sure to point out why he was tough on the players on a day where the entire organization was celebrating the new headquarters which should draw free agents next offseason at an incredible rate.

"Basically the point of these headquarters was to allow the team to practice in a more comfortable area, make everything easier on our front offices, and draw some of the top free agent talent every year. This was a tremendous gift from Paul (Allen), moving here doesn't immediately mean these guys have made it. A large percentage of the players out there are fighting just so they can see this place a month from now. They can't lose their focus."

Holmgren continued to express his excitement over the new building and how it could positively help the team in the future.

"Soon the new excitement feeling will wear off, and we will return to business as usual."

Later on Holmgren went on to express his main goals for the pre-season to help out the team not only for the first four tune up games, but the entire season.

"Obviously running the ball is important to us. We have new faces who we think will have a very good impact on the team. But Julius (Jones), Maurice (Morris), T.J. (Duckett), and Justin (Forsett) all need to work hard so we can figure out who the right guy is for us now."

Establishing a running game is obviously the number one goal for Holmgren. Halfbacks took up the majority of the press conference while members of the media began to grow restless knowing they had little time to prepare a story that would not end up being the same as their counterparts.

Near the end Holmgren touched on a few other topics including rookie tight end John Carlson, better defense on the road, and a breakout year from one of the many young receivers that Seattle currently has on the roster (Either Ben Obomanu, Courtney Taylor, Jordan Kent, or Logan Payne).

"If these things fall in place, we could have a very successful season."

For Holmgren, he hopes his last sure ends that way.

Great write-up. You sound like a sports reporter covering the Seahawks. Nice touch. Question about your team: Considering you have plenty of young talent as far as WR's go, who do you think is one or two guys that you are most excited about in terms of their potential impact on the offense in terms of your overall passing game on offense?

Great job, man. I'll be following this one for sure.

Jones in Rush to Move on with Seahawks
KIRKLAND- (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/seahawks/2008-07-27-julius-jones_N.htm) Near the end of the second day of training camp, Seattle Seahawks running back Julius Jones discussed rushing plays with offensive tackle Walter Jones.

"I was asking him what his favorite plays are and what he likes to block, and I was telling him what kind of plays I like to run," Jones said. "They kind of match up, so I'm looking forward to that."

At the end of practice, Jones walked off the field with Seahawks veteran running back Maurice Morris. Jones, in his first year with Seattle after spending four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, is trying to absorb the intricacies of Seattle's offense.

"All I do is go out here and practice and try to get better and learn the system," Jones said. "This is a really tough system. I'm still learning. I have a lot to learn."

Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren expects Jones and Morris to contribute in a two-back system. "I'm looking at it right now as that we have two starters at that position," Holmgren said. "That's how I've talked to the players about it. That's how I'm going to approach it during the season.

"It will certainly help our football team if I can keep them both fresh and somewhat healthy through the course of the season."

Seattle needs production from Jones, Morris and T.J. Duckett. For the first time since 1999, the Seahawks are without 2005 MVP Shaun Alexander, who was released in April nearly six weeks after they signed Jones.

Last season, Seattle rushed for 1,619 yards, the second-lowest total in Holmgren's nine years with the Seahawks. Seattle dropped from third in the league in rushing in 2005 to 14th in 2006 to 20th in 2007.

A once-productive rushing attack has deteriorated, and Seattle is intent on restoring it. Not only did the Seahawks sign Jones and Duckett, they hired a new offensive line coach (Mike Solari) and a new running backs coach (Kasey Dunn).

"I have high hopes for Julius," Holmgren said. "I think he's a good football player. He has grasped our offense very well."

Jones appears to relish a fresh start after his stint with the Cowboys. His carries and rushing yards were cut in 2007 as Dallas relied more on Marion Barber. Jones carried the ball just three times in a divisional playoff loss against the New York Giants.

"I was really anxious to get started and put the past behind and try to make a new future for myself," said Jones who ran for 1,084 yards in '06 but 588 yards in '07. "I went out on a sour note last year. So I still have a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm looking to get that out."

Jones likes playing at Seattle's Qwest Field, where he rushed for a career-high 198 yards and three touchdowns in 2004 and 112 yards in a January 2007 playoff game.

"I also like the uniforms," Jones said. "It's the colors. You get lime green. You rarely see lime green."

Seattle is not asking Jones to replicate Alexander's prime years or handle all the touches. Morris rushed for 628 yards and four touchdowns last season, averaging 4.5 yards a carry.

"That's one thing about the NFL: You can never have enough good backs," Morris said. "We understand the running back situation right now."

They will also be asked to catch the ball. Not only did Alexander's production as a rusher decrease in the past two seasons, his receiving statistics dwindled, too.

"You have to catch, block, run the ball, line up as receiver. You have to do everything," Jones said.

Duckett adds a power dimension to the running game.

"We have a big back, a little back, speed, power, catching," Duckett said. "We all have our thing that we do, and put us all together, it's going to be a situation that's really nice."

I would say Ben Obomanu and John Carlson. Obomanu has real nice big play ability, and I have always loved throwing to my tight end in NCAA and Madden. I think Carlson could have a big year and really see some big rating improvements by his second year.

Carlson will be starting, however Obomanu will likely be #4 on the depth chart, #3 if Branch is injured in the game.

Also, I will be doing short stories like the first one with the Times logo, but the Jones one was written by someone else. If I ever post a story in a real publication, it will be in the quote boxes.

Strong into Ring of Honor

KIRKLAND- Today the Seattle Seahawks released a press release to the media announcing that retired fullback Mack Strong will be inducted into the Seahawks Ring of Honor after over fifteen years of service with the team. Last season in a away game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Strong suffered a herniated disk due to trauma to his spinal cord. This abruptly ended his career as doctors warned him that future damage to the spinal cord could leave him paralyzed.

Today the entire Seattle Seahawks organization is pleased to announce that Mack Strong will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor in a ceremony at halftime of our home Sunday Night game against the New England Patriots on December 7th, 2008.

For fifteen years Mack played tireless football for our football team, and was consistently honored as one of the best players at his respected position.

There is no doubt that he wore his Seahawk uniform with pride and will continue to represent our organization in a positive light.

We think honoring Mack during a nationally broadcasted game is the least we could do for a player who never wore anything besides a Seattle uniform.

Strong, 36, was recently hired by FSN Northwest to be one of the studio analysts as well as host his own show, "Mack Strong: Seahawks Insider." Strong also will appear as a color commentator in the Seahawks locally broadcasted pre-season games.

Strong was not available for comment.

Seahawks Make Minor Move
The Seattle Seahawks came to a trade agreement Friday morning before their game against Minnesota to send defensive end Jason Babin to Cincinnati in exchange for Blue Adams, a veteran cornerback.

Las season Babin was acquired in exchange for Michael Boulware in a trade with the Houston Texans. Babin spent most of the season on the bench behind Patrick Kerney, Darryl Tapp, and Baraka Atkins. It appears as if Banin would have slid further down the depth chart after the drafting of Lawrence Jackson, a defensive end from USC.

It is not known if Adams will be available for the game against Minnesota.

Sometimes that's all you can do is just fight and grind it out. Personally, I think that these victories show the kind of guys that are really on your team. BTW, what was Hasselbeck's stats at the end of the game? How many yards did your running game get on the ground?

Quotes

Mike Holmgren: "Lofa's interception and our defense is what won us the game. We need to really improve on offense next week against San Francisco if we want to see this team where we think they can be. Buffalo kind of snuck up on us, they are a good football team, but I think our guys were looking ahead to the first division game."

Julius Jones: "I would have loved to of had a better game, but things just didn't roll that way. I am happy in how I played in the passing game though, but I was brought here to run and that is what I am concerned about improving on next week against San Fran."

Lofa Tatupu: "Our defense played great. I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time with the INT. They had one against us so it was nice to bring one back. It ended up being pretty important so I'm happy that it happened."

John Carlson: "It was great that my first touchdown was one that won us the game. The next one might not be as exciting, but this is something I will always remember."

Matt Hasselbeck: "Our defense stepped it up today and we didn't. If we want to get where we want I need to be much more accurate. I know we will do better after this, we can only take it as a learning experience."

Donte Whitner: "Yeah that sucked. Play that well and hard and lose it with six seconds to go? There is not a feeling that drives a football player more crazy. We had them."

Trent Edwards: "That INT was just me misreading the defense. Tatupu did something before the snap and called off a blitz or something. I have to look it up on tape. We can only look ahead though."

Game Ball

Lofa Tatupu changed the game defensively and gave Seattle the go ahead touchdown which allowed the final drive to even be possible.

Great job pulling out the win. I'm sure that Hasselbeck and the rest of the guys on the offensive side of the ball will step it up next game. You have a great defense though and that's what helps win games, no matter what league, NFL, NBA, etc.

When I get Madden, I want to pick a average or subpar team and do a fantasy draft for my rosters and play Franchise mode that way. I'm not sure what team I'll be. Definitely not an obvious one like Dallas, Indianapolis, or New England.

I see great things for you as far as this Franchise goes, keep it up, man!

Quotes
Mike Holmgren: "We were throwing the ball pretty effectively today, but it just seems as if we just freeze up when we near the end zone. Lawson was doing a great job at breaking through the line and he was a big reason why we were struggling with the running game, but we need to improve that aspect. I know over time Julius, Maurice, and T.J. will do better in the long term, might as well work out this problems in the beginning of the season."

Mike Nolan: "We could just not move the ball against that defense. They were doing a tremendous job in containing our running game, and that allowed them to put pressure on Alex. Next time we see them hopefully we will be more prepared and come out ready to play winning football."

Nate Burleson: "It feels great to get the first one at home. I know I wouldn't be the first to say we would like to move the ball more effectively, but the last two games have shown just how strong our defense is."

Joe Nedney: "The wind was just really throwing me off. I don't know, but I just didn't do well today."

Lofa Tatupu: "We would have loved to earn the shutout but we should be proud of our defense today. We did a great job as a unit containing Gore. Last few times we have played them he has always done well against us, it feels good knowing we won the battle today."

Matt Hasselbeck: "I still would like to see us move the ball better, but 20 points is nothing to be ashamed of. I think you saw us working out the kinks the first week and we are beginning to improve each week. Beating our rivals was a great feeling though."

Deon Grant: "The coaches made sure to emphasize that we stop Gore today. I think we did that quite well and that allowed us to keep pressure off the offense for constant points. Whenever you do that you win. Defense wins championships after all."

Game Ball
Nate Burleson came up big in may big plays, and was constantly open for Hasselbeck to hit in stride.

Quotes

Mike Holmgren: "Today you saw how much more efficient our offense is when we have a good running game to take the pressure off of Matt. I'll tell ya, Julius was just a workhorse today. It was great to see him finally pop for his first big game with our team. This was something that he needed, the fans needed, and our team needed. I think this performance will set the tone for him the rest of the season."

Julius Jones: "I have always performed here at Quest. I thought I would do better last game but today was special. St. Louis was coming in 2-0 and cocky that they could beat us, it was nice to run the ball and show them that this team has won the division four years straight. I came here to be part of the winning and to play in front of these fans, it's all falling together right now."

Scott Linehan: "We have just had a hard time beating these guys. Last year we had the snap fumbled by Gus, then two years ago we lost in OT at home because of the 53 yard field goal from Josh. They have been tough and they showed why the have won the division for four straight years. They are still top dog and we are still chasing them."

Walter Jones: "It was great to see Julius have a good game. Whenever the running back has a good game that means our unit as an offensive line did a good job as well. We just need to keep this momentum going."

Marcus Trufant: "I had a tough assignment going against Torry, but the fans really energized me. When people talk about a home field advantage, for our team there definitely is one. They just pump so much energy and provide so much for our defense. It makes my job a whole lot easier."

Chris Long: "This is my first time playing here and you can tell the fans make a difference. I had a pretty good game, but they were still able to march down the field. When they get the ball moving the fans let you hear it."

Game Ball

Torry Holt usually destroys the Seahawks. Marcus Trufant held him to 45 yards on five catches and no touchdowns. Plus he was able to grab a interception that set up a Seattle score and recover a fumble.

Even though Engram got hurt a few games back, looks like your team is just finding its groove right now. I don't see anyone in the division challenging you so you're probably itching to get through the season and get the playoffs started so you can test yourself against some of the more top teams in the NFL.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've gotta know, is this on Madden or Head Coach? I'm pretty sure it's Madden, but the times make it look like Head Coach. Anyway, so far so good. :)

It's in Madden. The times are just the time I post them, PST.

The blog style is actually a big time saver. Instead of having to do some big write up with a newspaperish feel I just have to post stats and make up a few quotes. The whole thing probably takes five minutes as opposed to a much longer post. I think this will help with the longevity of this.

Quotes
Mike Holmgren: "We were playing the best football we have played all year until the end of the game. I do not know what was going on with our guys there at the end but it is concerning. You have to give the Giants credit because they are the defending champions, but seeing a 31-3 lead disappear like that shows we still are not where we would like to be right now. We still have work to do."

Kelly Jennings: "It was great getting my first touchdown. It ended up being an important score seeing how they were able to come back at the end. On one hand it's nice to know that my touchdown was the difference, on the other we have to deal with a hard week of practice because we blew that lead."

Matt Hasselbeck: "The offense was moving well today, I was pleased. Julius had some help with running game with Leonard, and Deion was constantly open. Losing Bobby hurts, but I think our offense showed we can keep pushing with the guys we have now."

Lofa Tatupu: "We were playing some of our best football until the end of the game. If we can just keep on doing what we were doing the first three quarters, I think this team can go far."

Game Ball
Kelly Jennings played effectively and returned an interception for a touchdown, one that ended up being the difference in the game.

For Holmgren, he hopes his last sure ends that way.

great job man

Try LeeRoy Hill As Defensive End And Make Him Line Opposite Side To Kerney For LeeRoy Hill Has Like a 85 speed and that can help you get to the QB Faster so you can get a sack!
And GOOD LUCK!!!
