View Full Version : XBox360 vs. PS3: Which should I buy?

After looking at countless sites and reading countless reviews, I'm still not sure which game system I should buy. I figured I'd post here in hope of getting some good (even if biased) advice while not having to sift through page after page of forums, trying to find out which console I should get.
So, here's the situation: Whichever system I buy, I'll use it to play just two or three games at most, and I won't play online. Online play doesn't really appeal to me. Now, I know that may be a waste of both systems, but I love NCAA08 (I have it for PS2), and I would definitely get my money's worth with how often I play the game; I would play multiple Campus Legend positions and 30 year dynasties until 09 comes out. Another game I might buy is Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, but that would be a long shot. I'm a NCAA08 junkie through and through.
Also, I'm a bit turned off by the XBox 360's pricetag and the problems I keep hearing it has. Though, I have heard warranties have been extended.
Obviously, the PS2 just doesn't do it when it comes to NCAA08, but I've heard both sides of the argument that the XBOX 360 and the PS3 outdo each other in graphics. Either is better than my PS2, but which system is better for my personal total gaming experience when it comes to the NCAA08?

Okay so taking online out of the equation...
Would you use the PS3 for Blu-Ray? If not, then you'd save money by going with a 360 and there really wouldn't be a reason to choose the PS3 over the 360.
When talking about NCAA 08 you'll be getting a better game on the 360 with the 60fps over the PS3 and its 30fps. I wouldn't make a decision based solely off of this but its something to consider.
So I'd say if you have interest in Blu-Ray then go with the PS3. If not, wait until the 360 has its price drop (either August 8th or 12th I forget which it is) and you'll be able to get a premium for $350.

Yeah, if your really into sports games, you should get the 360. Madden and NCAA are 60fps on 360, and it looks a whole lot smoother.
But, if you aren't totally into sports games, you should also look at the PS3.
They both have a huge selection of games. The PS3 is coming out with lots of great games. The PS3's Online is free, so thats a big one. The PS3 can do lots of things, but I can't really name them all. The PS3 is coming out with Home, which is an online virtual world, where you can share your music, video, games and everything else. Its going to be really cool.
IMO, you should get a PS3. I got one, and I love it so far. In the future, the PS3 will be amazing.
But, I don't have a 360 to tell you what it can do.
Developers on Sony stated that the PS3 will become a sort of devise, such as "Tivo" where you will be able to record and save video onto your PS3 in about a year. This shows that the PS3 can add more and more things to the system over time.
I hope that helped. :D

Yeah, when I thought about buying a PS3 that was a huge swaying point, then I heard about NCAA08 on the XBox360 having the live Weather Channel feature, and the graphics so good you can see individiual blades of grass blowing, and the unique crowd reactions. The more realistic the college atmosphere, the better for me. But I'm still a bit partial to the PS3.

Right now, all I play are sports games, but only NCAA. I think it will come down to more bang for the buck.

Dude, all that stuff is on the PS3 NCAA too...the only difference is the FPS...Which will be corrected next year.
If you only play sports games,go with the 360.
I have both systems and I keep finding myself only playing games on the 360 if its on both platforms. I love the achievement stuff. I do like the ps3 blue ray over the 360 HD DVD though.

Because the BR drive is inclusive and doesn't take up more space?

I forget which company, but some cable provider is going to use 350's for the same thing with IP TV.

360 for now, PS3 for later. The PS3 is slowly becoming an impressive machine compared to its disappointing start (IMHO).

once the tech catches up to the PS3, I think it'll have more longevity. But I still think that the best console out there right now is the 360 by far.
