Week 1 - OLE MISS @ MEMPHIS (RIVALRY GAME)
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s1w1pregamememphis.png
http://myfilestash.com/userfiles/Matt10l/Week3Pregame.gifCordera Eason saw himself carry the ball 3 times last year for 6 yards, here's to him making a tad bit more of an impact this year.
Date and Time: 8/30/08, 3h30pm
Weather: In between Hot and Cold
Surface: Field Grass
http://myfilestash.com/userfiles/Matt10l/Memphis.gif
http://www.gnu-bee.com/football/logos/ole_miss.gif
Record: 0-0
Conference: SEC
Last Game: n/a
Player Watch: As mentioned, Cordera Eason is a force to be reckoned with, but don't be surprised if he shares the load with freshman Enrique Davis. Davis has some significant speed and acceleration and can take a hit on occasion. This dual threat that Coach Nutt is playing could be the one that ends up breaking the bank of a close rivalry duel.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B+)
Coach Comments: "I'm confident we will open the season with a victory. It's time to have fun again in Oxford, the Rebels will remember this day."
Injuries: None

http://www.gnu-bee.com/football/logos/memphis.gif
Record: 0-0
Conference: C-USA
Last Game: n/a
Player Watch: WR Duke Calhoun is the impact player for the Tigers and the junior has some decent speed to back it up. Unfortunately, a QB rated in the high 70's will be a true test to see whether or not Duke can pull his team together as the Rebels are surely the favorites in this one.
Grades: OVR(C),OFF(C+),DEF(C)
Coach Coments: "It is going to be a tough one today, noone said it will be easy. The fans spirits are high and I can feel the strength mounting against us - bring it on!"
Injuries: None

Aaron Curry did not have an outstanding game last week, but his nack for finding the ball whether on ground or in air will be a concern for the visiting Rebels.
Date and Time: 9/6/08, 12pm
Weather: 74 degrees, partly cloudy
Surface: Field Grass
http://myfilestash.com/userfiles/Matt10l/Memphis.gif
http://www.gnu-bee.com/football/logos/ole_miss.gif
Record: 1-0
Conference: SEC
Last Game: W (41-31 vs Memphis)
Player Watch: Cordera Eason, JR running back, put up some solid yardage and two touchdowns last week in the victory over Memphis. The Wake Forest defense is alert and will be ready to pounce every time #25 touches the ball. Look for Eason to get involved in the passing game too as QB Jevan Snead does not have great awareness and will look for the dump off at any sign of distress.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B+)
Coach Comments: "We had a big win last week, but it's time to focus on the task at hand - we have to make an upset of this ranked team to show that we are here to play some real football, America."
Injuries: None
http://www.sportslogos.net/images/logos/35/903/thumbs/2718.gif
Record: 1-0
Conference: ACC
Last Game: W (34-10 @ Baylor)
Player Watch: Houston Nutt will have quite the task in finding any running lanes against a strong run-stopping defense in the Demon Deacons, mainly because Aaron Curry will be filling all holes. The linebacker is known to just shrug off blocks and you can bet Nutt will be going for the play-action route a lot more than usual in order to fool the senior LB.
Grades: OVR(B-),OFF(B-),DEF(B-)
Coach Coments: "We will not take the Rebels lightly. There is going to be a battle among men today - and they will not overpower us in our own house."
Injuries: None

Week 3 - ARKANSAS STATE @ OLE MISS
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s1w3vsarkstateolemiss.png
Jevan Snead has been a rock so far this season for the rebels.
Date and Time: 9/13/08, 12h30pm
Weather: 76 degrees, clear
Surface: Field Grass
http://myfilestash.com/userfiles/Matt10l/Memphis.gif
http://www.gnu-bee.com/football/logos/ole_miss.gif
Record: 2-0
Conference: SEC (T-2nd)
Last Game: W (27-9 at Wake Forest)
Player Watch: Last week Cordera Eason and Enrique Davis torched the Demon Deacons for a combined 181-yards rushing. They will be theme of this game as well without a doubt. Not only can they run the ball, but both can catch and run as well. Jevan Snead has looked very comfortable in and out of the pocket, he makes good decisions and has a strong arm. The Red Wolves would be smart to blitz to all hell and get this QB a bit off his game.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B+)
Coach Comments: "Strong couple of games we've had so far this season and today is going to be a test on whether or not we can keep our composure."
Injuries: None
http://www.sportslogos.net/images/logos/35/903/thumbs/2718.gifhttp://images-partners-tbn.google.com/images?q=tbn:vLG8ql3nUs0OMM:bp1.blogger.com/_suHX2J8gVfc/R9nqY0drjlI/AAAAAAAAAEU/2j9-7_a0Pjk/s320/asu-red-wolves-logo.jpg
Record: 1-1
Conference: Sun Belt (2nd)
Last Game: W (34-21 vs FCS MW)
Player Watch: Reggie Arnold will be the main source of the Red Wolves rushing attack. But the stingy defense of the Rebels will most likely deny all hope of a running game. This will be a true test for the Red Wolves, because the Rebels are quickly catching on fire.
Grades: OVR(C-),OFF(C+),DEF(D+)
Coach Coments: "I do not believe in intimidation. But the Rebels here will have their work cut out for 'em, I guarantee you that much."
Injuries: None

Week 4 - VANDERBILT @ OLE MISS
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s1w4olemissvsvandy.png
The Rebels will certainly be looking to stop the pass in hopes of another 'W' - this one against their rivals, the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Date and Time: 9/20/08, 3h30pm
Weather: 75 degrees, awesome
Surface: Field Grass

http://www.gnu-bee.com/football/logos/ole_miss.gif
Record: 3-0
Conference: SEC (5th)
Last Game: W (59-10 vs Arkansas State)
Player Watch: Look for Enrique Davis and Cordera Eason to be used a whole lot more than last week. The dual-threat running back system was clutch against the Red Wolves - there's almost no stopping the Rebels if they can get these two working quickly.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B+)
Coach Comments: "This is Rebels football at its finest, rivalry games and today, rivalry victory."
Injuries: None
http://images-partners-tbn.google.com/images?q=tbn:8X6x-x_Y3n6AIM:www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/ncaa_logos/vanderbilt_logo_2003.gif
Record: 2-1
Conference: SEC (9th)
Last Game: W (34-31 vs RICE)
Player Watch: QB Nickson will not be afraid to run the ball, he is fast and agile - but also has a strong sense of awareness to throw the ball. RB Hawkins can also bust out the big plays when called upon - look for the Commodores to strike quickly, making every attempt to blindside their opponent.
Grades: OVR(C+),OFF(C+),DEF(C+)
Coach Coments: "The only thing that seems to be in favor of us is the fact that we are leading the rivalry streak - by tomorrow, they will be singing a different tune."

Week 5 - OLE MISS @ #3 FLORIDA
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/pregametemppics1w5atflorida.png
Tim Tebow and 90,000 fans will be the hosts for the visiting Rebels in the top ranked "Toughest Places to Play".
Date and Time: 9/27/08, 3h30pm
Weather: 78 degrees, too loud
Surface: Field Grass

http://www.gnu-bee.com/football/logos/ole_miss.gif
Record: 4-0
Conference: SEC (T-2nd)
Last Game: W (21-14 vs Vanderbilt)
Player Watch: Jevan Snead had a solid game against the Commodores last week, he was connecting on all cylinders. Look for the Rebels to try to establish a running game very early - there might even be a couple of drives where Snead is just an onlooker.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B+)
Coach Comments: "I'm sorry I can't hear myself think!"
Injuries: None
http://images-partners-tbn.google.com/images?q=tbn:9mHAqNwbwlApgM:content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/9/9e/250px-Florida_Gators_logo.gif
Record: 3-0
Conference: SEC (1st)
Last Game: W (37-7 at Tennessee)
Player Watch: Time Taebo - uhh Tebow. Tebow is one of the most exciting players to watch and is the reason why the Gators are sitting pretty at the top of the standings and in top 5 of the nation. Look for the Gators to really mix up the play as the Rebels defense have been known to be very aggressive on 3rd down.
Grades: OVR(A),OFF(A),DEF(A)
Coach Coments: "Just another walk in the park - with 90,000 fans cheering you on - can't beat that and the Rebels wont' beat us in our own house."

Week 6 - #19 SOUTH CAROLINA @ OLE MISS
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/pregametemppics1w6atSCgameostr.png
The conditions are going to make this game a little bit more interesting. Gamecocks senior LB Jasper Brinkley might have a bit more trouble stopping the run as a result.
Date and Time: 10/04/08, 3h30pm
Weather: Showers, 45 degrees
Surface: Wet Field Grass
http://myfilestash.com/userfiles/Matt10l/Memphis.gif
http://www.gnu-bee.com/football/logos/ole_miss.gif
Record: 5-0
Conference: SEC (T-1st)
Last Game: W (23-10 at Florida)
Player Watch: After holding Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators to only 10 points, it is the Rebels defense that will have to be considered a threat. Defensive back Demarreo Marr has excellent hands and like he showed last week, can go the distance when he catches the ball. The linebackers Jamie Phillips and captain Ashley Palmer are ones who can contain the run as well.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B+)
Coach Comments: "We are here to keep the Fun-Train going."
Injuries: None
http://images-partners-tbn.google.com/images?q=tbn:GgoYB6DtQzfg1M:www.cudaapparel.com/images/category/DaynaU/DU_SouthCarolina_logo.jpg
Record: 4-1
Conference: SEC (3rd)
Last Game: W (31-10 at UAB)
Player Watch: The Gamecocks rating wise are well off as LB Jasper Brinkley has had an incredible season so far with 35 tackles and 3 sacks and running back Mike Davis is on a hot-streak averagin 77 yards a game. With the sudden rise of Rebels football in the SEC, look for the Gamecocks to have the "Go Big or Go Home" mentality in Oxford today to play the part of spoils.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B),DEF(B)
Coach Coments: "I think they are still on cloud-nine, and I'm quite certain we can use that to their own disadvantage."
Injuries: RT Justin Sorensen (90 ovr) - Turf Toe - Questionable

Week 8 - OLE MISS @ #24 ALABAMA
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s1w8atalabama24prega.png
In real life, Johnson was arrested this year for disorderly conduct, however in this report there is no such act. He still might be pushing guards though - they will be wearing helmets.
Date and Time: 10/18/08, 12h30pm
Weather: Clear, 71 degrees
Surface: Field Grass

http://www.gnu-bee.com/football/logos/ole_miss.gif
Record: 5-1
Conference: SEC (3rd)
Last Game: L (14-41 vs South Carolina)
Player Watch: Junior Wide receivers, Shay Hodge and Marshay Green have been consistent targets for QB Jevan Snead. In the loss to the Gamecocks, Green caught the ball 10 times for 140 yards and a touchdown, while Hodge caught 5 balls fro 107 yards. The key will be whether or not their deliverer, Snead, can keep his composure in the pocket and not force the throw.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B+)
Coach Comments: "The SC game was a disappointment, I'll say that, but sometimes you need that kind of defeat to put your heads back on your shoulders, and that helmet back on your head."
Injuries: None

Record: 4-2
Conference: SEC (4th)
Last Game: W (25-21 vs Kentucky)
Player Watch: The Crimson Tide have a slew of offensive weapons, however one of their main ones, WR Mike McCoy will be out with a torn tricep. There are no worries though as freshman Julio Jones is more than capable of being John Parker Wilson's main target. Defensively, look for captain Rashad Johnson to find himself closer to the line of scrimmage rather than batting down balls.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B)
Coach Comments: "They are looking regain momentum, the problem is we have it with us already - and we're at home, it's not looking good for them already - and it won't be."

Shay Hodge has been a leader in catching the ball for QB Jevan Snead and the Rebels.
Date and Time: 10/25/08, 8pm
Weather: Showers, 76 degrees
Surface: Wet Field Grass

Record: 6-1
Conference: SEC (4th)
Last Game: W (27-21 at Alabama Crimson Tide)
Player Watch: Jevan Snead has been on fire as of late and has really started to throw the ball better by going through his progression more efficiently. Look for Snead to throw the ball a bit more than usual, but do not be surprised if Coach Nutt throws a curveball and has RB Cordera Eason run for entire possessions at a time.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B+),DEF(B+)
Coach Comments: "Perfect rain in Arkansas - it's like the gods are either crying because I am home or they are playing the home field advantage...because I am home."
Injuries: None
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b0/ArkLogo_2.png/150px-ArkLogo_2.png
Record: 2-5
Conference: SEC (10th)
Last Game: W (17-13 vs Kentucky)
Player Watch: Razorback WR Reggie Fish is on a hotstreak with over 300 receiving yards this season and three touchdowns. Defensively the Razorbacks are struggling due to all three starting linebackers are out with injuries. On this basis alone it does not look for Arkansas, but if QB Casey Dick can find a rhythm and RB Deanthony Curtis can continue his own streak, the Razorbacks could sneak one past the Rebels.
Grades: OVR(B),OFF(B),DEF(B-)
Coach Comments: "We are hurting right now, and we need to make a statement, what better than to protect our house and send them packing."
Injuries:

Ole Miss and Purdue to face off in Outback Bowl
-Excerpt from the Tampa Shore Newspaper
Tampa, FL -- The Ole Miss Rebels from the SEC and the Purdue Boilermakers from the Big Ten Conference are paired up to play here in Tampa this coming Thursday afternoon. Weather looks like it will be perfect for both teams and each quarterback have something to say building up towards the game.
"We have had a tough season so far, but today we wipe the slate clean. We are going to treat today's game as if we are 0-0 and the score is tied. I honestly just want to play good enough to send our seniors off right." - Jevan Snead, Sophomore quarterback of the Ole Miss Rebels.
"This isn't a rivalry game or anything, they are just another opponent and we are just going to go in and get the job done like we have this season. We are on a good streak here and I am pretty sure our seniors will get the proper send off." - Curtis Painter, Red-Shirt Senior quarterback of the Purdue Boilermakers.

|Bowl Week - Rebels @ Boilermakers|
Boilermakers finish off Rebels thanks to fine kicking - win Outback Bowl
-by Ol' Misster Faithful (free-lance reporter from Oxford, MS)
Tampa, FL -- Jevan Snead might've been the quarterback of this team two months ago, but today he just didn't have the guts to play the position - and if it weren't for the fact that it was the Outback Bowl, I guarantee you Mr. Nutt would have subbed out the young man.
Right off the bat
Curtis Painter showed that he belonged on the field, throwing for just over 200 some odd yards and a touchdown. His very first snap from scrimmage was a touchdown pass to wide-out Desmond Tardy, who eluded safety, Kendrick Lewis (who was out of position in the first place) and galloped on his way for a nice 51-yard score.
Automatic kicker
Purdue's kicker, Chris Summers, was the man who would carry his team on his back the remainder of the game, being as he was the only who would put points on the board. Summers went 5 for 6 in field goals made, including a 51-yard boomer that just went through the uprights. Whenever it looked like the Rebels were going to get close, Summers' kicks made the momentum shift in favor of the Boilermakers.
A not so nice ending
How did this one end? Down 10-23, Houston Nutt calls for nothing but hail-mary plays with under a minute to go. Jevan Snead's first down attempt at a hail-mary for Marshay Green was deflected, then the second down effort was closer to the lemonade vendor in row 20 than it was to Shay Hodge. Finally, Snead looked like he would connect with big-boy David Traxler - who had already caught the lone Rebels touchdown. The pass wasn't looking too bad, but in came Purdue cornerback Charlton Williams. Williams caught the ball, broke a tackle, broke Jevan Snead's - who looked like he was trying to fall gracefully than tackle Williams - attempt and scooted into the endzone to finish the Rebels off, 29-10.
Don't worry, the Nutt will be back
Speculation had it right after the game on whether or not Houston Nutt would be back next year - he announced later in the evening that he had already accepted a contract extension of 3 years with the Rebels.
Nutt's bowl loss will stick with him though, and what looked like was going to be a dream season, ended up cannon-balling out of control. A record of 8-5 is miles times better than last year, but we all know it could have been better.
Look forward to writing more of these - see y'all in the offseason.

Max Hall threw for just over 170-yards, but had to be replaced in the second half due to a concussion. Backup Brendan Gaskins did not fold under the presure, throwing 2 touchdowns and an interception, for just over 115-yards. Also injured was Pittsburgh star running back, LeSean McCoy - who had 17 yards on 3 carries before being knocked out of the game on only the Panther's second possesion of the game.

This is the time of the year in which new recruiting rules should be implemented. If you did not know yet, the Ole Miss Rebels did not gain a star in their prestige level - remaining at three stars. What this means is that recruiting should get tougher, not easier.
Here are a couple of recruiting rules, mostly gathered on OS forums (personally thanks to FistofRage) that are going to be enforced this season:
Only allowed 1 five-star recruit added to the recruiting board
Only allowed 3 four-star recruit added to the recruiting board
Recruiting board is dictated by Team Needs, if I need a QB or WR, they must be ranked 1 & 2 on the board.
There will probably be a couple more along the way, but as the season gets closer to starting, I wanted to get these out as soon as possible. The next article by Art will be regarding sliders and how we are moving from All-American, which were the last 3 games played on, to Varsity. The reason for this move will be explained.
By the way, sorry for the constant change in the article's format. We are trying to find a bandwith-happy medium for photobucket as I have over 400 images on there.

Should Win Game - Week 9 at Vanderbilt : After going without a win in the SEC last year, Vandy will be looking to scrap any kind of win, and while the team has not improved greatly, they could give the Rebels trouble - especially if Jevan Snead continues his late-season form he did last year, throwing 8 interceptions in the last 3 games.
No Miracles - Week 11 vs #5 Georgia : As much as we want it to happen, I just do not see a victory in sight for the Rebels. The Bulldogs bring back Knowshon Moreno, junior running back and backup Caleb King was sensational last year in Moreno's absence, becoming an All-American with 17 rushing touchdowns and 1,096-yards rushing.
Out of Sequence - Week 8 at Notre Dame : Kind of a strange move in scheduling a team like Notre Dame right in the middle of the SEC madness, but Houston Nutt has stated that it will be "refereshing" to visit South Bend and play an offensively gifted team such as the Fighting Irish (A).

Preview: Ole Miss are coming off a remarkable turn-around season last year, ending 8-5 and taking 4th in the SEC, but losing in the Outback Bowl to the Purdue Boilermakers. Jake Locker and the Washington Huskies were a team in 2008 with a goal to break the Top 25 - however due to injuries to impact player, LB EJ Savanah and Jake Locker for two games, the team finished 5-7. Personnel: Rebels QB Jevan Snead is a strong young man who is looking to regain his form. Snead will be handing the ball off to sophomore running back, Enrique Davis, who beat out senior Cordera Eason for the starting spot. The Huskies, on paper, do not look as strong on offense as they do on defense due to freshman center, Jabari Grant starting (68 ovr).

Huskies slip by Rebels, Snead continues poor display
------------
FUMBLE!
Joe Cason forces a fumble on James Hasty at the Goal-line,
then it was Enrique Davis spinning out of a tackle for a 63-yard touchdown run.
WTF!?
JR Hasty looks on in disbelief as safety Johnny Brown spins around randomly (user error, strafe is bad!).
Hasty had no problem running into the end zone for a 70-yard long score.
ANOTHER INT!
Justin Glenn steps in the way of a Jevan Snead pass, intended for Marshay Green.
GAME WINNER!
The interception set up the game winning touchdown by none other than JR Hasty from 2-yards out,
his second of the game.

Van Der Lay Review: The Rebels just made more mistakes than the Huskies today, mainly due to quarterback, Jevan Snead. He seemed too focused on one receiver per play - not utilizing his progression, it's just not a good start. Maybe it will be a good thing though that it happens early in the season (this sounds familiar), so that he can start to get hold of his nerves before we go on a 5-game losing streak. Jake Locker looked exceptional with his strong presence in the pocket - the man just has a cool head and really gave our secondary trouble. I'm not sure about the 3-4 defense being the pick this season, our linebackers were not able to stop the running game and not able to get decent pressure on Locker. When they did stop the running game, however, it was in the redzone - Joe Cason's strip was a thing of beauty - I don't think Hasty knew what hit him. Eitherway though, it came down to the turnovers. Snead's last one was when the game would be lost. The Huskies managed the clock well and scored with virtually no time remaining for Snead to make a comeback. Rebel fans - I'm officially stating - the QB-one spot is open, Omar Love or Bill Trapp - take your pick.

Preview: The Cowboys had the first week of the season off, the in week 2 demolishing FAU 42-14 at home. The Rebels are coming off a bye in week 2 and are looking to get back in the driver's seat after a narrow loss to the Huskies of Washington State in week 1. Jevan Snead will be starting this week for the Rebels, despite throwing 3 interceptions in the Washington loss - some Ole Miss fans have showed their displeasure for the junior's inability to play the game without throwing a pick. My thinking is that Snead will get pulled by Coach Nutt if he gets above 2 picks today. On the other side of the ball, Zac Robinson is coming off a 3 touchdown and 1 interception game, just passing 220-yards - but the Cowboys spread offense is dictated by their two-backs, senior Beau Johnson and junior Kendall Hunter. In the win against FAU, each back averaged over 5-yardsa carry and scored 1 touchdown.

Frickin Flacking Fluugin Flaiygen!!! Cowboys comeback from behind to upset Rebels
------------
SAFETY IN YOUR FACE!
Allen Walker destroys Beau Johnson in the endzone for a safety,
the ensuing kick off set up a Joshua Shene field goal from 50-yards.
CAN'T BLOCK WORTH A SHIZ - BUT I'M FAST.
Converted Tight-end Markeith Summers was a great outlet for Jevan Snead on
this play for a 70-yard pass and catch touchdown to put the Rebels up 22-0.
THE COME BACK BEGINS
What looked like a simple toss play resulted in Ole Miss players slipping and struggling
to tackle Beau Johnson - who stiff-armed his way for a 70-yard run in the fourth quarter
to make the game 22-17 Rebels.
WE'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE
Son of a mother trucker, damn. It looked like the Rebels defense could hold the
Cowboys from 3-yards out, but on 3rd and goal - backup Kendall Hunter had
other ideas as he pushed his way into the endzone for the go ahead
touchdown. The 2-pointer would be converted and the sweet taste of
victory rain would be for the Cowboys.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s2w3okstsspngfinal.png
Van Der Lay Review: At least Jevan Snead is back in form. This was just one of those games that no team could run the ball, but there was always a chance for the big plays. Oklahoma State deserved to win this game - they just made bigger players, they looked better on offense despite not being able to score in the first half. I never realized it until today, but Ole Miss is not looking good on offense at all. Enrique Davis is fast - but almost too fast, he seems to sprint right into the wall of defenders. Davis' backup, last year's touchdown leader, senior Cordera Eason, was abysmal in trying to run the ball - 9 carries for -1 yards. You have to give credit to Beau Johnson for sticking with the his own game - he was denied early in the game, but made the most out of a nothing toss which resulted in a highlight touchdown. It was only a matter of time the Rebels defense would give up the game winner - they looked good today - but the Cowboys offensive line were dominant in the trenches, only giving up one sack. So it was no surprise that backup Kendall Hunter scampered in to win it. Next week we open up conference play against the #11 Auburn Tigers - is anyone else starting to get worried?

Preview: What a task the Ole Miss Rebels are going to have on their hands today. The Auburn Tigers are coming off a sensational showing, beating the USF Bulls last week 56-35. Quarterback, junior Kodi Burns, has already thrown 10 touchdowns this year as a result of his 7 thrown in the victory over the Bulls. The Tigers running back, junior Mario Fannin is averaging 7.7 yards a cary and has notched 3 touchdowns, in additon to that he has scored two receiving touchdowns with over 165 yards catching the football. Last week Fannin was all over the place, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown, also receiving for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jevan Snead and the Rebels may have a little steam lit since giving up a loss at home last week to Oklahoma State - but that might not be enough to contain this crazy offense of the Tigers. My thinking is Enrique Davis is going to struggle running the ball too considering seniors Senderrick Marks (DT) and Antonio Coleman are one of the best defensive linemen in the country.

NUTTS, Errrr...Rebels, GET BURNED - Auburn QB breaks passing record
------------
OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT
The embarrassment starts with Zachery finding himself in between
two Rebels for the first touchdown of the game.
PSSHHH....TOO EASY
Mario Fannin stays behind his blockers, scooting into the end zone from
5-yards out to make it 17-0.
BIG HIT - REBELS MOMENTUM EXPIRES IN....
Uh, how bout right away.
Ted Lauren'ts massive deck on QB Kodi Burns was supposed to be the
shift in momentum for the Rebels - unfortunately Jevan Snead found a Tiger in the
endzone instead of a Rebel - pick numero one - go figure.
CONGRATS, I HATE YOU
Gotta give it up though, Kodi burns was sensational today and surpassed the
previous record holder for most passing yards in one game - by 1 yard.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s2w4ataubpost.png
Van Der Lay Review: There was no chance for the Rebels to come into Auburn and upset the Tigers - everyone else believed it, and it seemed today even Houston Nutt started to believe it. The Rebels never threatened to play today - they basically bent over and took whatever Kodi Burns and the Tigers had. Burns just torched the Ole Miss through the air and yet again it was no surprise when the PA announcer's voice vibrated the stadium with "Congratulations to quarterback Kodi Burns for breaking a game record...' you know the rest. Running the game was impossible for the Rebs, Cordera Eason outshined Enrique Davis - who seemed to want to shake and bake (even if it awesome that they are two verbs that rhyme) than run for the 1st down. It was fitting that the man who scored 15 rushing touchdowns last year would score the only touchdown of the game. You never want to see your team play this bad, but the result is getting Jevan Snead - who threw 3 interceptions yet again - off the QB1 spot and Billy Tapp in. In addition to that move, Houston Nutt has also stated that Cordera Eason (who gained +1 Ovr pts) will be starting the rivalry game against 3-1 Arkansas next week.

Preview: Last season the rivalry between the Rebels and Razorbacks went in favor of Ole Miss - thumping the Hogs 41-10 in Fayeteville. (http://www.operationsports.com/mm/showpost.php?p=3176991&postcount=56) This year might be a little different as it is Arkansas coming in with a better record and, for once, no injuries. In their last meeting, the Rebels starting QB Jevan Snead threw 2 touchdowns, while running back Cordera Eason ran all over the place for 145-yards and 2 touchdowns himself. This time around, Snead is out and backup senior red-shirter Billy Tapp is in. Houston Nutt has also fiddled with his starting running back, making the switch from speedster Enrique Davis (sophomore) to senior Cordera Eason - Eason was the only Rebel to score a touchdown last week in the embarrasing loss in Auburn. On the other side of the ball, Arkansas have been on fire defensively, last week picking off Alabama QB Greg McElroy 6 times, on their way for a 27-10 win. Good thing Snead isn't in the game, right?

------------
RUPTURED
In an attempt to make a shoulder tackle, Arkansas senior safety
Rashad Johnson ends up rupturing his disk and is now out for the season.
YOU KNOW WE'RE THE WHITE TEAM RIGHT?
Razorback DT Cord Gray had to verify with Billy Tapp whether the ball he
just threw was intended for the right colored jersey.
AND WE HAVE LIFT-OFF!
Marshay Green gets rocked by freshman safety, John Patterson.
Green was the Rebels top receiver on the day, and it was only a matter
of time the Razorbacks put an end to that.
AH, THE BACK OF A RUNNING BACK'S JERSEY
Yup. Rebels defense are used to seeing it in the end zone.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s2w5arkapfinal23dss.png
Van Der Lay Review: If this is rock bottom - we can only go up,right? Yes, it is those kind of inspiring words that Houston Nutt is probably saying to his team at this very moment. Honestly, what in the world is going on with this team? We actually put up a fight against Washington - but then we have basically just let everyone run over us. Maybe the switch from 3-4 to the 4-3 wasn't the best idea by Nutty over there. Eitherway, we're not playing good football on both sides of the ball. Our running backs can't tackle, our secondary can't defend the pass and our quarterbacks can't stop throwing interceptions. Before the season started, I saw a couple of position battles - and became excited because that meant we had a pretty talented group - at this point, I'm more interested in watching the kickers duke it out than watch the first team offense or defense play a down. Nutt better figure out something quick during the week off - I really hope we didn't scare away those visiting recruits, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Preview: Allright Rebels fans - this is the moment of truth. We just had the week off, and we have the top recruit coming in for a visit. Come on Ole Miss! Come on Nutt! Come on Walter Kronkite! Speaking of new flashes, safety sophomor Lekenwic Haynes is out of this game due to back spasms suffered during training last week. Haynes was the regular backup to freshman Kenneth Baker, but made an impact in the dime and prevent defense. Quarterback Billy Tapp remains the starter today, and Cordera Eason will be the running back he hands off to. Nutty is going to play the 3-4 defense and said he's going to try to take the good stuff that has happened this season and roll it all into today's game plan. The Rebels are going to have to watch out for WR Julio Jones, sophomore, as he has been on a tear as of late (great) catching the bal 31 times for 368-yards and 4 touchdowns. QB Greg McElroy is on one of those hot-streaks, throwing up 14 touchdowns, averaging 220-yards a game.

Markeith Summers sneaks into the endzone after catching a perfect ball on the flat

Van Der Lay Review: Muahahahaha! Virgins no more, virgins no more! We played a great game today and my hat goes off to Houston Nutt for making some smart decisions for once. That senior Bama kicker was in tears last I saw him - damn straight! Phew...we basically won this game on sheer determination, and a prayer. Something has to be said about their kicker though, he had made a 56-yarder in the 3rd quarter - it was so close that Nutt and company thought about challenging the call - but elected not to. What can be said about our quarterback, Billy Tapp. This guy came into this game with nothing but a cool head and executed the gameplan admirably. He was as solid as they come in making decisions on the fly. People are starting to compare his nerves of steel to Eli Manning. Okay, I made that up - but still, it could be true. Tapp went 20 for 28, throwing 1 touchdowns - including the game tying touchdown to Markeith Harris in the fourth quarter.
What a game.
Right after the go ahead touchdown and extra point to make it 14-13, Greg McElroy trotted down the field with his team - connecting on two beautiful passes and eventually set up the game winning field goal attempt by Tiffin. Nutty called a time-out to ice him, after all it was 43 degree weather and rainy. As soon as Tiffin's foot connected with the ball, everyone thought it was good - it was so close for his standards - and the ball just launched! User Matt10 held his breath as the game took a hold of him (kicker's cam)...the ball started to veer left slightly....slowly...then again....slow.......WIDE LEFT!!! Rebels win 14-13, Rebels Win!! Matt10 punched the air like he had scored a goal - "It was the most emotional college football game I've ever played. The Rebels are going to have to find a way to somehow win away from home today, but I'm not so sure it's going to happen. The good news is we know what it is like to win now, and if Billy Tapp can keep what he is doing - we should at least not lose by much. With that said, Jimmy Clausen - yes the tool that we thought he was when he first showed up in an escalade as a freshman - is up there with the best of them now, throwing 21 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions on the year. Golden Tate, junior receiver for the Irish, has not dropped a ball thrown his way yet. He has caught 38 passes for just over 500-yards and 6 touchdowns. Running the ball is at the hands of the two running backs, Armando Allen (junior) and James Aldridge (senior). Although Aldridge gets the start, Allen has proven his worth by averaging 6.6 yards a carry and equals his partner in crime with 5 touchdowns.
Injuries I forgot to Post: Notre Dame: CB Raeshon McNeil (Sr) - Strained Back (2 weeks) and TE Mike Ragone (Jr) - Torn Hamstring (Out for Season)

LOSE YO FEELING FROM FLEMING!
Marshay Green didn't stand a chance when he tried to juke out
Notre Dame outside linebacker, Darius Fleming.
TIP DRILL
Defensive backs, Sergio Brown and Gary Gray entertain Rebels' Shay Hodge as they
tip the ball in front of the receiver and eventually Gray would intercept the football.
SHOW-OFF . . .
Jimmy Clausen celebrates his third touchdown pass of the game - doesn't make
him any less of a tool though.
THE MAN OF THE HOUR(S)
Right after the Rebels scored to make it 16-21 (missed two-pointer), James Aldridge
decided it would the best time to return the ensuing kick off 102-yards and the score.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s2w8notredfinal.png
Van Der Lay Review: We really had a chance in this one. Believe it or not, we could have won this game - Notre Dame kept us in it the entire time, we just couldn't execute. James Aldridge is a beast, there's no doubt about that - the guy caught the ball, rushed the ball, returned the ball - I didn't even realize he was that good until today. Speaking of good, Jimmy Clausen is a force, man. The kid can play now - he's deep into the system that any decision he makes looks like a smart one. Not to be outdone by his running back, Clausen put up just over 220-yards and 3 touchdowns. On our side - not a bad day at the office for senior Cordera Eason. Eason seems to be back in form as he put up 115-yards rushing, which included a 70-yard breakaway - funny that he was brought down from behind before he could cross the goal line though. In the end, it was down to the turnovers. Tapp's passing wasn't terrible - it was pretty god actually - the Rebels receivers just got out worked, Notre Dame's secondary have extremely high awareness as a group - I was pretty impressed that Tapp only threw 2 interceptions, and not 5. All in all, the type of game that the Rebels needed to fuel their energy next week to face 2-4 Vanderbilt Commodores - who had the week off.

Preview: The Rebels played a solid game against an high ranked Notre Dame last week. Houston Nutt has acknowledged that this game against Vandy is pivotal for the beginning of "decent season". "The goal is to get back to 6-6," says Nutty, "But after today's game is a difficult task with the Big 3 in Georgia, Florida and LSU. We are going to focus on Vandy and only Vandy today." Ole Miss will be looking to get the running game started early. Cordera Eason put up impressive numbers against a very strong defense in the Fighting Irish last week and will be looking to repeat today. The Commordores are a good team, but since the news of Mackenzi Adams injury with a sprained ankle has spread around campus - the coaches have to put backup junior red-shirt Jared Funk to work today against the Rebels. Funk is only 3 for 11 thsi year, passing for 19-yards but 2 interceptions. The top receiver on the team is Alex Washington, red-shirt senior, who has 6 touchdowns - half of Adams 12 he has thrown this year. Today's game is important for both school's in regard to momentum due to their 'crazy' upcoming schedule.
The Rebels, after today's game, have #20 Florida then visit to face #19 Georgia, then #18 LSU. The Commodores are actually a hard ending schedule with Alabama, #20 Florida, #19 Goergia, #5 Tennessee and ending with #4 Oklahoma.

of the game from Billy Tapp.
CAN'T TOUCH THIS SPEED
Backup running back, sophomore Enrique Davis, gets out towards the sidelines
and is never touched by a Commodore on his way for a 66-yard score.
UNSTOPPABLE HAWKINS
Jared Hawkins carried the weight of his team on his shoulders as much as he
could. The red-shirt senior here broke a couple of tackles on his way for a
80-yard touchdown run, his second touchdown of the day.
FINISH IT OFF
Tight-end Markeith Summers celebrates his touchdown in cool fashion after it

Van Der Lay Review: When Billy Tapp threw a bomb to Shay Hodge on the very first play from scrimmage for the opening touchdown - I could already feel this was going to be a huge day for the Rebels - and that a victory was in sight. Tapp hooked up with Marshay Green after a beautiful drive on the Rebs next possession. Is it me or is Billy Tapp starting to out-shine everyone on the field? This man is a quarterback, folks - he has nerves of steel. Tapp finished his incredible day with 280-yards passing, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Enrique Davis saw more carries than he had intended due to Cordera Eason broken ribs suffered in the 3rd quarter (out for 3 weeks), and made no hesitation in putting up some solid numbers as well, which included a 66-yard scoot down the sidelines. For someone who has faced criticism for not leaving for the NFL sooner - Hawkins seems to be a man amongst boys.Hawkins scored all of Vanderbilt's touchdown. He rushed in one from 25-yards out, caught one from 31-yards, then a powerful 80-yard dash to make things interesting. Unfortunately, the Rebels did not give up and the final nail in the coffin would be Tapp's perfect pass to tight-end Markeith Summers, who just blazed past the defense for the comfortable score. Kicker Joshua Shene seemed to really struggle on his extra points- missing two today - but made a careeer-high 53-yard field goal earlier in the game. Despite that, the Rebels held on for the win and are set to host #17 Florida, who are coming off a nailbiting win versus SEC East combatants, Auburn.

Preview: Seriously, you think wee are going to beat them 23-10 like we did last year? Better get your head checked, son. The Gators are dominating in virtually every statistic - there's just no way the Rebels are going to stick with 'em today. Unless we knock out Tebow, and his backup John Brantley (91 ovr Sophomore), but then we still have to deal with junior running back, Emmanuel Moody - and if we knock him out we gotta face his backup, ridiculously fast Chris Rainey (Sophomore Rs, 91 ovr, 96 spd - 98 acc). The entire Florida secondary is made up of 90+ overall players. Sure, the Rebs have been getting better...slowly - but today...today we will see an ass-whooping. I pray for your Coach Nutty, I pray and I drink - go team go.rah rah.

PEANUT BUTTER TEBOW TIME!
It's not even fair when this man shrugs a tackle from our best
defensive player, Greg Hardy, and rolls into the endzone.
MOORE THAN WE CAN HANDLE
Senior WR Carl Moore performs the Gator Chop in front of the Rebels
student body - dick.
REFRESHING SUMMERS BREEZE
Not really - but it was a nice play from our tight-end. Markeith Summers
continues to impress with a acrobatic catch behind the Gators secondary for
a rare Rebels score.
PICKING OF NOSE FAIL!!!
Florida TE Aaron Hernandez makes a solid attempt to show off his boogers, but
failed to realize there was a face-mask blocking his path. Commentators acknowledged
that Hernandez was 'shushing' the crowd - but we know better.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s2w10vsfloridafinal.png
Van Der Lay Review: What I tell ya? There wasn't a chance today. We tried to stick with the Gators - really, the first quarter was a scoreless affair and it looked like we had a chance...right. Anyway, Billy Tapp didn't have the greatest day - but that would be a given against an incredibly fast secondary. Pierre-Louis, their corner, was incredible - he had two picks - the first one was in the redzone when we had a chance to score. It was looking good for Tapp because he had completed 4 of his 4 passes until the pick. We had a pick of our own though on Tebow when he threw up a hail mary at the end of the first half - yeah...eat it. The Gators just dominated, they didn't hold the ball for long - as powerhouses do not seem to do - they just score off big plays. Our scoring came in the form of Joshua Shene's mighty 52-yarder and then 42-yarder, then Markeith Summers touchdown - then a two point conversion. All of course too little too late. Actually very little too late - we just didn't have a chance today, Tebow and company destroyed us and any confidence we have facing Georgia next week.

The best I could do is pay attention to a certain recruit and then when he gets recruited to a college - rename him and change equipment to your liking. If that doesn't work - you would just have to wait till the end of the season to be inputted.

Preview: Maybe my preview of the Florida game was a bit on the harsh side and not showing enough 'faith' of our Rebels - but in the end, I was right. Today, I will be a bit less harsh - but that's not saying the Rebs won't get absolutely ripped into like a monkey on a cupcake. I failed to mention last weekend that we are going to be without our best offensive linemen, John Jerry, for the rest of the season due to a torn groin he suffered in the Florida game. The Bulldogs are hurting a bit too - their offense at least. Where they hurt on offense though - it doesn't really matter when they have the likes of running backs Knowshon Moreno and Caleb King. Moreno leads the team with 9 rushing touchdowns, while King is the All-American averaging 6.2 yards a carry. You can look for this deadly duo to get quite a few handoffs today against our aggressive - or oblivious - defense. Quarterback, senior Joe Cox, has stepped in for the NFL drafted Matthew Stafford - and has done a pretty remarkable job throwing 21 touchdowns, 7 interceptions on his way for 2,168-yards. Our QB Billy Tapp a 3 interception game - but looked good considering Florida have one of the most dominant defenses in the nation. It is going to be a battle for the ages, maybe - just maybe - we will have a glimmer of a hope in beating the Bulldogs at home. Not likely, but maybe.

Guys - announcement..ish here.
I've decided not to do CAPs anymore. Sorry for those who were interested in that part of my report, but it's too much work and I honestly am getting tired of seeing all the CAP related reports on every forum I frequent. I think people use it to get as much attention they want and what ends up going down is those CAP subjects become only concerned with their CAP character rather than the report itself.
Eietherway, I choose for it not to be part of this report. I think people are getting ridiculous with their constant need for attention and it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth - and for some of the veterans, I'm sure you can taste the same thing. It's not that I'm too good for it - it's simply not wanting to follow the crowd.
Chise/nasty-ing (or whatever name we want to call it) has become a form of advertisement these days, and it's honestly pathetic. I see it enough in the real world, why would I want to see it every forum I frequent. Maybe it's an age thing - I dunno, but I think it is taking a bad turn - and I honestly just want nothing to do with it.
So - moving on from here - Take care and stay tuned.

Disgustingly close. Bulldogs almost get embarrassed at home to Rebels
------------
NOT IN MY HOUSE!!
Roderick Battle and teammates celebrate their holding of Enrique Davis
and the Rebels on 4th and Goal.
MORENO SALUTE
Yeah - this was after the running back sensation scored off a punt
return of 70-yards.
HEY-OOO! ONE MORE TIME.
The same salute - to the same reaction - Knowshon has been THE Bulldog
this year - this time celebrating his rushing touchdown from 25-yards out.
GOOD LORD
A 57-yard pass somehow finds TE Aron White in the end zone despite the
supposed excellent marking by safety Johnny Brown - who was in complete
agony when he came back down to the earth without finding the football
in his hands.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/MLarnitt/s2w11atugapost.png
Van Der Lay Review: Yeah - yeah, I know the pictures do not say what was really in this game, but it's hard not to focus on how good of a team Georgia is - and how badly we made them look. I would say that if it were not for our steadily growing secondary - Joe Cox could have really let loose today. Nothing can really be said about how our offense played - Devin Thomas (freshman running back) came in for injured Enrique Davis. Shay Hodge showed he can still catch any kind of ball thrown to him. Johnny Brown continues to amaze us in his lack of awareness...and then his reaction to his lack of awareness - it's really attention to detail with him. What I must say though is that Knowshon Moreno is a pimp. Straight up. He's a pimp in Athens - the man truly plays like a god there. He may have only put up 78-yards rushing, but what isn't shown is that he can certainly bust out in the special teams department. Is anyone else thinking about sitting out the LSU game? Then Mississippi State and Southern Miss? I'm ready for this season to be done with - it's just too depressing to write anything anymore, ya feel me?
Good lord, I just saw we were 8 for 25 on third down conversions...wtf.
Matt10
12-24-2008, 12:57 PM
THE END.
Simply enough - this one is finished. Not because I saved over it or anything, just simply have lost interest in the game. I love my Rebels - but honestly, it's too much work reporting on the Rebels, Matthew King AK Starter, Texans and a soccer one Lam Matteo. Plus football-wise, 2k5 is a god compared to anything EA is doing, it really is that much of a difference.
So - scrapping the Rebels - so I can pay full attention to my Alive and Kicking:The Starter report featuring Matthew King, cornerback currently playing for the K-State Wildcats. I will be editing that report's first page with information on when/if King joins the ranks of the NFL - it will just be one whole thread is basically what I'm saying.
Thanks to those who followed and thanks to those who lurked - I appreciate it, but you can understand how much work this is. I want to play more and report less - that make sense?
Take care.
