Is all this Jason Campbell hype from the local media legit or does he just look so godly compared to Mark Brunell?

Marshall would look good if you compare him to Brunell.

Great game last year against the Skins and Colts. It's unfortunate it kind of broke loose in the second half. The Skins have my respect.

Damn, Hamlin in a Cowboys uniform. He sucks in coverage, but he was a leader of the D and a fan favorite.
To stay on topic, I wonder how many carries Betts will take away from Portis this year.

A little of both. It's not hard to see that he has potential to be a very good NFL quarterback, but people were in love with Patrick Ramsey as well. Based on the experience of seeing Ramsey's potential and then watching it disappear so quickly, I'm approaching Campbell with cautious optimism.
The dude throws a nice deep ball and is a pretty accurate passer. Last year he still made some decisions that in my mind were questionable. He's definitely got the physical tool set and confidence needed to lead a team, but from the neck up the jury's still out IMO.

Spurrier ruined Ramsey's career. Spurrier let him stand back there and get smacked by the defense, and it made Ramsey gun shy.

I think that's part of it. I don't know that Ramsey would ever have been a great quarterback though, even if he hadn't been mauled the way he was. He didn't see the field very well and would often lock onto receivers. He was the kind of player you'd see do some really great things every once in a while, just often enough to make you feel like he could be great. But the consistency was never there. He just didn't have it. He was a likeable guy too, and that made it hard to swallow the fact that he wasn't going to live up to expectations.

Yeah. He was a pleasant surprise in a year that was an overall disappointment defense wise.

Yeah. He was a pleasant surprise in a year that was an overall disappointment defense wise.
Obviously I watched him play when he was in college and I thought he could develop into a solid starter. I didn't think he would produce like he did in his rookie year though. He had a major injury his senior year of high school and lot of people didn't think he would ever be the same. So It's good to see him countinue to get better.

Washington's defense was quite impressive last night, especially up the middle. The offense... where do I start? Poor Jason Campbell. That's all I can say.
Campbell made some very impressive throws last night, though. I'm excited to see what he'll do when Gibbs retires and they get a coach/GM in there that doesn't have his head up his own ass.
Campbell will be a much better QB when Joe leaves.
The game was kinda ... blah till the end. I was hoping to see more from the Redskins.
I wanna know the status of the guy who made the tackle without his helemt, and got nailed in the head by a teammate with his helmet on.

I didn't get to see any of last week's game. I can't get Sunday Ticket here because of a monster tree in my back yard. I'll miss all of the preseason, but a friend of mine here in Orlando has Sunday Ticket, so I'll be at his house every week during the regular season.

Some thoughts on today's game:
- I'm overall happy with how the defense played. They were tough to run on and got enough pressure without having to bring the house, something they haven't done in a long time even against the worst of O lines.
- Jon Jansen being out sucks, but I don't think it's going to affect the O line as much as it would have 2-3 years ago.
- London Fletcher is an absolute beast who finds the ball no matter where it is. Picking him up was the best move the Skins have made in a while.
- Carlos Rogers looked pretty spotty today. He got out of position a couple of times and looked lost on a few plays. If Smoot continues to play pretty well, we may see him more than Carlos.
- Jason Campbell looked decent. He threw one ugly pick on the first drive and then another one later in the game that wasn't so much his fault. Randle El saved him from throwing one later though. The biggest thing about having Campbell at QB is that he has the ability to make plays downfield, something the Skins haven't had in forever. He made some good throws and threw a couple off target that could have been huge plays. I like his confidence and the fact that he doesn't do a bunch of bonehead crap all of the time. This is the best I've felt about the QB position in a while.
- The O line was great. Lots of a time to throw and the running backs put up close to 200 on the ground.
- Chris Cooley was missing in action. He made one big play to extend a drive, but didn't do much else noteworthy.
- Randle El was everywhere. Hell of a game by him. The rest of the receivers were inconsistent. At times they were open and didn't make plays that they should have.
Overall I feel pretty good about this game. I think there was a lot that could be improved upon and several missed opportunities. Miami had a lot of the same problems the Skins did (dropped passes), so it was hard to say what kind of game it might have been had they executed better. Trent Green played really well, but it seemed like he had no help at all from the rest of the offense.
If the Skins can keep pounding the rock and playing D like they did today, I'll be a lot more confident about our changes this year. Campbell and Randle El showed that there is some real potential to make big plays, so hopefully that's a trend that continues. Ultimately the Skins could have played a lot better, but it's nice to get out of week 1 with a win and be able to point out the areas that need improvement.

I agree. I'm pretty excited about this season. Randle El was a beast today. I damn near pissed myself when he got horizontal trying to haul in a short pass from Campbell. He finally showed his true potential at WR with the Redskins. Campbell looked really good at times (and not so good at times with his short accuracy). I've thought he was one of the best deep-ball specialists in the league since he's come in, and I don't doubt that feeling after today. Man, he throws a beautiful deep ball. The defense was absolutely solid. Secondary was back and forth with their quality of play, though. My biggest worry from the preseason was the O-line, but they played very well considering Jansen was last pretty early.
All-in-all, a number of things that need to be worked on and the worry me a bit, but I'm quite impressed.

OK, here are the thoughts after this week's game.
- Continuing to feel good about Jason Campbell. Such a confident QB and he can make all of the throws an NFL QB should be able to. One early error in this game and then he made an amazing play before the end of the half. I could have done without the overthrown pass to Moss, but wow.. the guy has a cannon.
- Gibbs is starting to coach more like he used to. I think Campbell is a big factor. We're now seeing him take shots that he wouldn't have the last couple of years. That deep ball to Moss was the kind of dagger shot that I haven't seen since Gibbs return. It may not have been a successful play, but it made me feel damn good to see it.
- The defense was solid. Granted, McNabb was to thank for a lot of passes that could have been completed, but the guys did their job. It was great to see "Area 51" punishing guys. I'm still a bit nervous about a team that seems to get a lot of their sacks because of solid coverage, but overall I'm happy with where the D is at right now.
- Losing Randy Thomas is a big one. No Thomas and no Jansen. The only good thing here is that Brunell is no longer the QB so it isn't his blindside. Fabini did ok (save for the ridiculous penalties), but I have to wonder how the right side of that line is going to hold up after being depleted two weeks into the season. These injuries could cost us big at some point.
- Chris Cooley is back. :)
- London Fletcher is still as much of a beast as he was last week.
So the good news is that we're 2-0 and host a Giants team that couldn't possibly be in more trouble. I just wish it weren't the week after being on Monday Night Football. This is a game that makes me a little more nervous than usual and because I think the Giants have enough heart to make it a close game. Their backs are against the wall and they will be scrapping for a win. If we do come out of it 3-0, we have a bye week before playing the Lions. That would be about the best shape the Skins have been in since the 1999 season.
sidenote: I broke my long standing policy of never wagering anything on a Redskins game this week when I bet an Eagles fan lunch that we'd win. The day after the game he brought me a a can of Chunky Soup. Typical Eagles fan..

It's like they were in too much of a hurry that last drive when they could have slowed it down a bit. There was no reason that last play should have been as rushed as it was.
That said, even with the loss I'm still very impressed with Washington. Campbell is definitely the real deal, Portis is running like crazy, and the defense is looking absolutely great most of the time. Moss is still inconsistent. I'm not understanding what his deal is.

It's called a double team. I'm sure Randle-El has been taking him to dinner a few times a week because of it. :)

I'm talking about his dropped passes. I'd venture to guess he's dropped at least two in each game so far.

Indeed he has. Although, that long bomb that was overthrown by Campbell was surely not his fault (he had 3 or 4 steps on them too). Can you tell he's on my fantasy team(s)? :p

Word.
I was really sick and didn't see any of the game last week. Caught some replays of the disappointing last sequence, which wasn't fun to watch even after I already knew the end result. Seemed like a classic example of "one that slipped away."
In general I'm feeling pretty good about where the Skins stand. There is the bye week to evaluate some of the early issues and they are still 2-1 with a home game against Detroit next week (a team they never lose to).
Bye week always sucks for fans though, so hopefully they make it worthwhile with a huge win next week.

There are a lot of things I could say after this week, but it's a win at home against the Lions so there is really only one thing I want to mention.. the play of Jason Campbell.
I have felt better about this guy at QB than I have about a Skins QB as far back as I can remember. He seems to be improving each week and I have to wonder how good this guy is going to end up being. He's got all of the physical tools to be an excellent starting quarterback and it appears that he has everything needed from the neck up to do that as well.
I don't know how this season will play out but I'm flat out excited that we now have a QB that is a real weapon. This can only mean good things for the Redskins.

Yeah, the Skins should have won a game in which Green Bay missed two FG's and didn't get an obvious force-out call in the endzone...
Moss blew, but Green Bay's defense was sick in the second half.

Well, then lets talk about the bs holding call that brought back a TD for the Packers...
Or maybe the int that went right through Poppinga's hands...
Both teams blew chances, but the Packers found a way to win.

Not to mention the 3 wide open deep balls Favre missed...
This is what Peter King said today: Referee Terry McAulay's crew at Green Bay-Washington, for an overall poor job and costing the Packers two legitimate touchdowns. First, there was a pathetic holding call on right tackle Mark Tauscher, negating one Favre touchdown pass; there was nothing close to a hold on the play. Last year, the officials were told not to call offensive holding unless it was something an official actually saw. Well, there's no way an official saw holding on Tauscher. Never happened. Then, a second Packers TD throw was negated when Bubba Franks cleanly caught a pass in the corner of the end zone with one foot down before getting driven out of the end zone by Washington cornerback Fred Smoot. Incomplete. Insane.
I mean, in some cases (and this is going to make me look like a total homer), like the Chi @ GB game, you can say "Well, if Jones hadn't fumbled twice, GB would've won." because, unlike yesterday, only the Packers blew chances. Yesterday, both teams blew chances, which negates anything bad that happened for Washington, because something just as big happened to GB.

This one was disappointing for sure. In the first half I felt like the Skins were controlling the pace of the game and would win convincingly. But the mistakes were unbelievable in the second half. Dropped passes, fumbles, and some poor clock management were the final nails in the coffin.
The only thing I have to console myself this week is that Jason Campbell had another great performance. The entire rest of the team let him down, but he kept plugging away and made some great throws and decisions. Hopefully next week the rest of the offense will be able to keep up with him.
p.s. I'm scared about the injuries on the O-line. This could be a big problem as the season wears on.
