Sliders Will Be A Work In Progress

7 Minute Quarters

Hereīs something cool about the West Virginia Mountaineers, they beat the #3 ranked Oklahoma Sooners on the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl last year and they have won their conference 13 times in history. The Mountaineers are lead by solid coach Rich Rodriguez. One of the biggest losses by the Mountaineers has been Steve Slaton, who has moved on to the NFL.

The Mountaineers are lead this season by senior QB Pat White and Sophomore HB Noel Devine. A big question mark is in the FB position, were a starter has still to be named, but the fight is between two freshmen. With Slaton gone Devine will gets lots of carries in an offense that looks to establish the run early to later use play action. Pat White on the other hand will be rushing a lot, showing people his legs as well as his arms.

Pat White now has an amazing 6 foot 8 wide receiver, Wes Lyons, who will be an obvious receiver in all kinds of situation, as he is a lot taller than most other receivers, and defensive backs.

This year will be very important year for Bill Stewartīs Mountaineers, will they finally make it to the top of the polls or will they fall flat on their face? One thing is for sure, expect either Devine and White to have a monster season.

I think McAfee got majorly snubbed in this game. He's the best K/P WVU's ever had! I'd give him a 90 overall. And I hate with Jock Sanders' overall. That guys' speed should be like 95+ and like overall in mid-80s!

Noel Devine an 87? I think he's the biggest game-changer in NCAA football, lol. Whatever, you'll prove 'em wrong! ;) (just don't lose to ECU early in the season :( )

FCS East at West Virginia
Preview

The Mountaineers will go into the field for the first time this season against the FCS East Warriors. This will be the first time we will be able to see Noel Devine and Pat White this season. Expect great things from Noel Devine in this battle between the weak Warrior defense and his great rushing skills. Another thing we expect to see is a lot of play action towards the late 2nd quarter, as West Virginia will establish the run early with Noel Devine and then take advantage of Whiteīs arms and legs. The good Mountaineer D wonīt be facing much of a challenge, as the Warrior offense is nothing to be proud about, and their quarterback is prone to throwing a lot of interceptions. On Special Teams donīt expect anyone of the Mountaineers to be running back more than a couple kick-offs, as we donīt expect the Warriors making more than a couple kicks. On the punting side Noel Devine will get lots of opportunities to show his speed because the defense will be stopping the Warriors many times.

FCS East at West Virginia

Morgantown, WV - The Mountaineers kicked off for the first time of the season against the FCS East Warriors under a sunny sky in Morgantown, West Virginia. Things did not start well for the Warriors, as they did not manage to gain any yardage on their first drive and were forced to punt on their first drive. The Mountaineers quickly took advantage of their amazing field position to start their 1 play drive. On the next play Warrior fans could see Noel Devine running past their team on a 45 yard stretch to give the Mountaineers a 7-0 lead.
The Warriors came to the field looking for a better drive, but once again the Mountaineer D came in to stop them. The Mountaineers got the ball again in great field position after a good return by Noel Devine. Devine was bound to strike again, and he did with a 35 yard rush to get them to the 2 yard line, were in the next play he would dive into the end zone to give the mountaineers a 14-0 lead.
After three disastrous drives the Warrior offense stepped back into the field looking to start a new drive. Even though the offense looked to be getting in a rhythm after two consecutive rushing 1st downs the West Virginia defense was able to stop them on 3rd and 10, and would get the ball back after the punt at their own 37 yard line. Warrior fans should have turned the TV off at this point, because their D has to find a way to stop the beast called Noel Devine, as he ran another long (63 yards) rush to put the Mountaineers up by a lead of 28-0
The Warriors would get the ball back for their 4th drive of the game, and they started to rush their way down field and managed to get three long runs that were stopped by the Mountaineers last man. They ran a reverse that got them to the 2 yard line.End of the First Quarter

Devine runs for a 71 yard TD

The FCS West Warriors started well on their next drive, and they finally achieved their first 1st down of the game, but after two other 1st downs QB #16 threw an interception caught by Leonard. A holding penalty would be called giving the Warriors a 10 yard help against the WVU Mountaineers. Pat White then attempted his first pass of the game out of the Shotgun formation and threw a deep bomb intended for Jock Sanders but it was incomplete. After that play they ran an option play and Noel Devine ran it to the house on a 71 yard rush putting the Mountaineers on the lead by 21-0
When the Warriors thought they had their first TD Lankster intercepted the ball 6 yards into the end zone and took it all the way for 6 points. Mountaineers lead 38-0
The Warriors were finally looking to scoop up some points in the second quarter. They took the ball up the field but were stopped and forced to kick a field goal. The Mountaineers lead 35-3. On their next drive the Mountaineers would give the ball to Pat White, and he passed his first two completions of the night. He would then make a 35 yard TD pass to Jalloh.
The Warriors would then start a new drive in hope for a touchdown but would be stopped on third down with 35 seconds to go in the 2nd quarter and the West Virginia offense stepped into the field to manage a 33 second drive that gave them a field goal and a 52-3 lead at half time.End of First Half

Half-Time Interview With Bill Stewart

Reporter: We are here with coach Bill Stewart who is in his first season as the Mountaineer head coach. So coach, what do you think about the game so far?
BS: We have been playing very well and our D has started to show them who we are.
Reporter: Do you have anything to say about the great performance by Noel Devine?
BS: Noel has played a great game till now, we hope that this great play extends to the whole season, and is not only for today.
Reporter: Are you going to do anything to your strategy or put subs in?
BS: If this keeps on going and it seems the game will be a definitive blowout we will put our second team in so none of our starters can get injured, because that would be devastating to our team.
Reporter: Is there a reason Pat White is not getting many touches this game?
BS: We have seen that it is very effective to run the ball against this team, therefore we donīt have to give too much pressure to Pat. Also we have been planning to establish the run before passing, but today we have established the run too well, and I think they have been expecting us doing this.
Reporter: Thanks for the interview Mr. Stewart.

FCS East at West Virginia

Morgantown, WV - The third quarter started with a three minute Mountaineer possesion that ended with a Play Action touchdown pass by Pat White. The Mountaineers lead 59-3 FCS East got the ball and advanced quickly through the field, but when they were on the goal line they attempted a pass that was again intercepted by Lankster.
West Virginia would then start their 5 minute possesion to kill the clock. End of the Third Quarter

QB# 16 is sacked for a huge loss

The Mountaineers started the final quarter of the game with the ball and took it to the middle of the field with a great running attack. But their possesion ended when they failed during a 4th down and 2. The Warriors were determined to atleast get a touchdown in the game, and they ran with power to get to the 1 yard line and then finally make their first TD of the game. The Warriors were down 59-10 with 43 seconds in the game.
The Mountaineers then got the ball with 35 seconds to go, and with a good passing attack they managed to score their final rushing touchdown by Pat White with two seconds to go in the game, giving them a 66-10 lead.

WEST VIRGINIA OPENS THE SEASON WITH A BLOWOUT WIN

Morgantown, WV - West Virginia just started their season with the right foot, even though it was only FCS East they outscored them by 56 points. Pat White jad a rating of 163. 4, as it was clearly not his best game. He had 2 passing TDīs and a running one. He had a low completion percentage of 52 (9 out of 17 passes). Great stuff! Pat White's backup (#16) is named Jarret Brown. When they bring him out, they call it the "Big Brown" formation, when he runs with a lot of power, kinda like Tebow, lol.

Great stuff with my WVU Mountaineers, and keep up the great work! :)

West Virginia at ECU Preview

Greenville, NC - The Mountaineers will step on rival turf for the first time this season against the ECU Pirates at Greenville, North Carolina. Noel Devine will look to have another amazing game to keep his Heisman hopes alive. Speaking of Heisman hopes, Pat White will look to be more effective if he wants people to know he is the leader of the team. ECU will be a bigger opponent than last weekīs FCS East, so expect more of a challenge for the defense and offense. Currently the Mountaineers are 2nd in rushing yards per game and turnover ratio. They are 1st in points per game with 66. The Pirates season did not start as well, as they lost against the Virginia Tech Hokies. You should expect a great game.
A fan said "just don't lose to ECU early in the season ", is a rivalry starting up?? One thing is for sure, you should expect a great battle between these two teams in search of a championship win.
