Yeah, it can't be Godzilla.
I just found out only some Japanese Company and Sony has the rights to Godzilla, and that they can't make another Godzilla movie until 2013.
But I can't wait to get some more information on this, maybe another trailer or something.

I heard that there are clues all over the internet that might tell you what this movie is about. If you go to the website and click on one of the pictures and move your mouse side to side really quick it shows a message on the back of it. There are clues everywhere. I wonder if someone is going to figure it out.

new to the 1-18-08 (http://1-18-08.com) website, after for six minutes it plays a roar.
Someone saved it as a file
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/files/sound1_1187997095.mp3
So we have six now showing up with Slusho (You can't drink just six) and then this sound that plays after six minutes. Probably not a coincidence.

This is great stuff. Basically we are in the days right now leading up to when the movie takes place (1-18-08). So you can follow along with events on the character's Myspace. A couple days ago Rob mentioned how he had just gotten a job working for Slusho!
Now up is an invitation to his party on the night of the 17th: http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/01/06/video-footage-of-cloverfield-monster-destroying-chaui-station-rob-hired-by-slusho/
But this is the coolest thing so far. The other day marked what will essentially be the first attack from the monster. There are "news reports" and video footage of it in several different languages. They all have the same footage but its interesting to watch them for their tones and the way they shape their newscast of it. You can mark the monster's place in the mid-Atlantic ocean. Really good stuff to watch, almost gives me chills. Theres gotta be some other clues in there too. It doesn't appear to be a simple oil rig...why are there ninja looking guys and why does a Japanese guy in the helicopter have a briefcase handcuffed to him?

Yeah been reading good impressions coming out of the screenings. I love that they were able to keep things under wraps pretty well, I figured the monster would get spoiled way before release. But it sounds like its not so much about the monster as it is the characters and the gravity of the situation and feeling like you're there. That is what makes it an experience and not a movie. I'm really excited to see this on Friday.

I went to the premire last night there is only one new trailer so that was a letdown. Anyway about the movie well its an instant classic I can't even explain how good it is in words. I was totally blown away maybe my most favorite movie of all time.
I know a lot of you are worrying that they won't show the monster a lot well let me put that shit to rest you will see the monster a lot and I mean a lot. I'm not going to say anything else because I don't want to spoil anything for you. But the movie seemed like it was rated R even though it wasn't and even grown men the the theater where jumping and shit. That doesn't happen very often at all it was the best movie exp. I have ever had enjoy.
P.S. the special effects are top notch and I mean top notch

Just got back. Thought it was really good, definitely intense. I was impressed with the actual monster and also how much it is on screen. I like how it was unique from just their perspective, at the same time I know some people aren't going to like that it doesn't tie up nicely with an ending and answer questions they may have but it makes sense from how the movie was presented.

a potential sequel has been discussed.
http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/01/19/cloverfield-director-matt-reeves-already-talking-sequel/
After the movie the topic of a sequel came up and there are a number of ways that I think it could go. I would like to get more answers and I think with all the pre-story they built into it leading up to release they've got an idea of what the story of the monster would be. Maybe they re-live the night through someone in the military for instance. I'm sure they'd come up with something good. The only element that would be missing would be the mystery behind seeing the monster for the first time.
Apparently after the credits roll someone says something and it turns out when said backwards it is:
its still alive.
There also may be a hint to the origins of the monster that happened right near the end. Apparently...
something falls into the water in the background during the footage at the end with Rob and Beth at Coney Island. I didn't notice that happen but some people are saying they saw it.

Really good numbers. Heading into the weekend I read it was tracking to pull in around 30 mil for the weekend so it even exceeded those expectations.
http://www.boxofficeguru.com/011908.htm
Paramount's hit monster movie Cloverfield attacked the North American box office on Friday and scored the best opening day ever in January grossing an estimated $16.9M in its first day of release. The much-anticipated PG-13 thriller's opening day even beat out the entire $15.2M debut weekend gross of 2006's Snakes on a Plane which also was surrounded by an avalanche of online hype. Over the Friday-to-Sunday frame, Cloverfield could open to $40-43M while the four-day holiday gross may swell to $46-50M.

A sequel tieing up all loose ends would be good. I just wonder if they would use the same approach for it as they did for the first movie (the camcorder expierence)
And I wish I had seen that thing fall from the sky in the last sequence.
God this movie is amazing!!

Badass movie. Only two things that I didn't like.
- The movie was short.
- There wasn't much information regarding the origin of the monster or exactly what it was.

I thought it was pretty average up till the end...or lack of one. I wish they would have explained how or why it got there, who found the tape etc. Guess they are setting up for a sequal. Did like how it was filmed with the handy cam though.
