Any time range we're looking at here? I'll probably head online sometime between 6:30-7:30 PT. If we've got a few together for L4D I'd love to get through another of the campaigns but Horde would be fun too.

All I have to say is nuts to my connection problems. I am so f'ing sick of turning my router on and off trying to get open nat. I've got a static IP with a DMZ setting and I'm still getting "Strict Firewall" errors on Gears and nobody can connect to games I host. But then I turn the router off and on and suddenly it works okay. I feel like that it's almost 2009 and we've had wireless internet for several years now - why can't someone make wireless that's easy to configure and that actually works 99% of the time?!?

i should have a month subscription of live by next tuewsday so i might be on then if i have a headset by then...i have l4d though

Yeah, that sucked. I really wanted to play some wingman. I've been playing random multiplayer games against strangers for a couple weeks now. I really like the MP. I played COD WOW's MP and it's just constant running and dying.. I like the slower approach you have to take in Gears and BF: Bad Company.

I think I've gotten too old to compete in those twitch games like COD.

I think thats why I enjoy L4D and Gears so much is that I feel like I can contribute and hold my own even though I wouldn't consider myself to be great at them.

I think I might have figured this out.

I'm home now at lunch and thought I'd take a look at my modem settings as well as the router settings. turns out the Embarq ADSL modem was set to "routing" rather than "bridge" mode. So I'm hoping that this was creating a conflict between my router and my modem and preventing the incoming packets from getting through correctly.

Fingers crossed - will test later.

The Gears fan in me says yes...but I honestly cant say. It totally depends.

The gameplay is impeccable, but the online experience dampens it a little if you don't have a good host of friends that plays. Lots of cheaters.

That's why I like that we have game nights. If you got it, just see if we are up for it. I'll be on it a lot. For a long while.

Finally! It was the Embarq modem causing the problem. Reconfigured the modem to bridge mode and Voila! I'm hosting games. I guess the modem was trying to also act as a router and was dropping incoming packets and conflicting with the Netgear router.

I'm definitely stoked.
