Ladies and Gentleman and sports enthusiasts of all ages gather 'round and lend your ears. The regular season is done and who better to dish out praise and pain for all to read than the great Steeljake. Put your hands to together and please welcome the great prognosticator himself.

Thank you very much; I see the stitches didn't leave too many scars. I hope you feel better soon bro...

Well the 2008 regular season is in the books and what a great on it was. The playoffs are all set, the final teams have been chosen and the true losers have been identified. The coaching carousel is in full swing and 3 of them are already axed. No one was shocked to see Marinelli go; I mean he lost all of his games he has to go right? The Browns canned Romeo and in the first surprise of the off-season, Mangini got the old heave ho from the Jets. There will be plenty more firings to come (what a way to say happy holidays huh?), but I think the biggest shock so far is that no one is being fired in big D. The Cowboys (plenty more on them later, I promise) had high hopes but got rocked by Philly to be sent home with a tear in their eye and blame in their hearts. The Bears and Bucs joined the choking dog ranks and while the head coaches most likely won't be gone both teams will make moves. Mike Singletary has been tapped to lose the interim tag in Frisco and I have it on good authority that Mike Martz won't be retained.

There is good news to be had as well. The Colts completed a nine game win streak to end the season and Tony Dungy has now made the post season 10 years in a row, an NFL record. The Falcons and Dolphins both have completed their turnaround as Miami won the AFC East and Atlanta took the 5 seed in the NFC. The Pats won in a wild one in Buffalo but with the Jets stinking it up in the Meadowlands in the late game they became only the 2nd team in the Wildcard era to miss the playoffs with 11 wins. The other was the Browns, yes I am sure of it go look on NFL.com, I didn't think they ever won 11 games since 1970 either. The Ravens took the 6th seed with a beat down of the Jaguars B squad and they may be the most dangerous team in the playoffs right now.

The Playoffs start next week but a lot of teams have been in playoff mode so to speak for a while. The Chargers won their last 4 to get in after being 4-8 and no one could be happier than Ed Hoculi. The Titans are testing the rest em for as long as you can theory as they basically laid down against Indy and the Cardinals actually won a game to close out the season. Minnesota closed out with a win against the Giants subs, but the fact that it took a last second field goal might be a worry with Philly coming to town. The Panthers thought they were in cruise control until Drew Brees went after the record, but they also had a last second kick that got them the W. The Bears, who have been known for last second kicks, didn't even get that close.

We have plenty of trash to talk and love to give, so without further adue let's get to the MEAT!

The Good

- The Atlanta Falcons

They were left for dead by Mike Vick's actions and abandoned by their coach. They bring in rookies at head coach and quarterback and all of the ATL settle in for rebuilding. Someone forgot to tell the Falcons it takes a few years to get things right in the NFL. They have the number 2 running back in football this year and their so called rookie signal caller just won offensive RoY honors. This team has accomplished what no one thought they could and you know they say winning cures all, so I only have one question for the Atlanta fans...

Mike who?

- Peyton Manning and The Indianapolis Colts

10 weeks ago this team was 3-4 and we all had them dead. Manning couldn't throw, Marvin couldn't catch and the defense couldn't stop a pop warner team. Then they won one, then another, then 3 in a row become 6 in a row and the next thing you know, Peyton is MVP (yes is don't even try to say he is not) and they win 9 in a row to finish. Normally they win 10 in a row then lose the last 2 or 3 and then get rocked in the playoffs. Maybe this way will be better. this is an NFL sixth season in a row with 12 or more wins for the Colts and coach Tony Dungy's 10th year in a row in the playoffs. I know they didn't have the toughest schedule, but you can only play who you’re told to and like they always say, you are what your record says you are.

- The Pittsburgh Steelers

Yes I know they shut out the Browns, but a win is a win in this case and yes that’s a homer statement. This team has won 12 games almost despite their offense. The defense finishes the season as number 1 overall, number 1 in points allowed, number one in total yards, number 1 against the pass and number 2 against the run. They say defense wins championships and now is the time to prove if that is a fact or just a nice sounding cliché.

- The Minnesota Vikings

They finished out the season with a squeaker against the back ups for the Giants, but they did win the NFC North. Mid season they looked like they might not make it but the return of TJ has been a good thing so far. Adrian Peterson continues to prove he is indeed the best runner in the NFL and this year he took the title from LT with authority. AD finishes the regular season with 1760 yards and 10 td's to take the 2008 rushing title. The Vikes still have work to do on both sides of the ball, but they have made it to the dance and now it is anyone's game.

- The Carolina Panthers

By winning in New Orleans they broke the so called NFC South curse by winning the division instead of letting it fall to the Falcons. The dynamic duo of Deangelo Williams and rookie Jonathan Stewart in the back field has led this team to the playoffs. The success of the running game has also helped Jake Delhome return to at least a serviceable passer and the fact the Steve Smith is unstoppable doesn't hurt either. Despite what you saw in the 4th quarter yesterday this can play defense and with at least one home game in the playoffs they could make some noise in the post season dance.

- The Baltimore Ravens

The calling card of the Ravens has always been defense and this year was no different. They have the number 2 overall defense and Ed Reed leads the NFL interceptions and Ray Ray looks like a young man. The have a rookie quarter back in Joe Flacco who looks to be what the franchise needs as he can throw it deep if they need it and he isn’t costing them wins. They are 4-5 against winning teams, but as I said before, you play who is on your schedule and they beat enough of them to get in the dance.

- The Miami Dolphins

OK, we all know they were 1-15 and I don't know how many more ways I can say how great this team is because of the changes they made. This week they helped Chadwick get back at the Jets for letting him go for Favre and they can be even more thrilled that they helped Eric Mangini get the foot. Maybe five or ten years ago the top seeds were locks to get to the dance, but these days all you have to do is get in for a chance to win. The turnaround is the 2nd best ever, the Colts won 3 games in 1998 and 13 the next year, and if it weren't for what happened in Atlanta this would be the story of the year. Just one thing I want to know, I wonder if the Tuna has stopped laughing since Dallas missed the playoffs?

- The Philadelphia Eagles

Fly, Eagles Fly, on the road to Victory... That’s what they were singing while the Green Machine cleaned Dallas' clock to punch their ticket to the post season. All that talk about McNasty and Reid being run out of town is gone... for now. If you don't think winning cures all, just go to Philly for the week.

- The San Francisco 49ers

Mike Singletary shocked this team with his attitude and then showed them his ass. Rumor has it something was written on it but who can really say what it was. He gave us this year's best post game sound bites and in the process he seems to have motivated his team. With the win over the Skins he finishes 5-4 as head coach and with a winning record he looks like Walsh or Seifert right now. He has been named the Head Coach for 2009 and I think the NFC East better watch out. Talent they will get, but motivation they will never need again.

- The San Diego Super Chargers

Well they talked a mountain of trash and then they went out on the field and dropped 50 on the Broncos. Not much else to really say, if you can talk it and walk it then you're the man, until you lose again anyways. Can they wear the powder blues in the playoffs?

- The Oakland Raiders

This team has no business being in the good other than they got there pay back on Gruden. Their win against Tampa doomed the Bucs to the same fate as the Raiders in the post season: Spectators. Misery loves company and the only thing that would have made this win more poetic is if it would have been cold.

The Bad

- The Chicago Bears

What kept this team from the Ugly is the fact that they are 9-7 and not 7-9. The bad is for the mediocre and this team is the poster child. The Bears D looked rusty all year and they didn't look any better against Houston. Lovie Smith has already doomed this team to repeat their mistakes by naming Orton as the starting QB for training camp next summer. I am at a loss of words for the stubbornness of Lovie Smith, not even Ditka can explain it.

- The New Orleans Saints

They almost beat the Panthers to get to 9-7, but almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades. The offense is one of the best in the NFL, but the unfortunately the defense is one of the worst. I don't think Sean Payton should be worried about his job, but if he can't improve that D next year he will be done for. Reggie Bush isn't a bust, but he isn't the answer either, at least Pierre Thomas looked good.

- The Tennessee Titans B Squab

This is a warning to Jeff Fisher; don't let anything happen to Kerry Collins and draft a QB this year. VY is not a good QB and Chris Simms isn't good enough to be his back up. The starters look great but if something should happen to Collins, this team is done for. I know the game didn't mean anything, but I know everyone saw what I did.

We now pause for a word from our sponsor, the Dallas PR firm of Dewy, Cheatem and Howe.

"Did your team have high expectations that they just couldn't meet this year? Are you a star player that chokes in big games? Would you like to point the finger everywhere else besides you because the greatness that is you can never fail? If so, then call Dewy, Cheatem and Howe right now at 1-899-I-preformed-but-noone-else-did. We are the public relations guru's who have coined such great phrases like:

"I can only run the plays that are called"

"I would have liked to have been involved more but the ball wasn't thrown to me."

And

"They are figuring out our scheme and we just didn't adjust."

We can point the blame to everyone else, including the grounds crew if need be ("I must have slipped on that bad piece of grass when I fumbled...") no one is above blame, besides you of course. We can have people saying you need help to win and the organization just isn't doing it before you even land in Cabo for your off-season rest period. Call us now and we will throw in a free throwing under the bus of a player, coach or staff member of your choice. Call us now, before the talking heads figures out you’re overrated."

Now back to our regularly scheduled asshattery...

OK boys and girls, it is time for the last Ugly of the year. This is the part where we put em on blast and call em out of the shadows. No fool will be spared, no mistake will be missed and no head coach will be allowed to slink out the back door. This is the part where I get to trash the people that will never know, but we will get to laugh and cry a little anyways. Ladies and gentleman, I give you the UGLY!!!!!

Take it away girls!!!

U!-G!-L!-Y! You ain't got no alibi, you ugly, yo momma says you ugly!!

We have 6 teams lined up to get rocked this week in the Ugly and after being absent for quite some time we welcome back Dallas to the Uggo's. The usual suspects are here, including one I didn’t want to write, but I must do what is necessary. So without further adue...

The Ugly

- The 0-16 Detroit Lions

It's official, this is the worst team in NFL history. Marenelli has already been fired and most of his staff as well. I don’t have any jokes or witty comments, the record speaks for itself. The good news there is nowhere to go but up. Look at the Brightside Detroit, Millen is gone.

- The Cleveland Browns

I want all the dopes who called this team to win the AFC North to put their willies in their desk drawers and shut it ten times. How could anyone ever think this team was going to be anything that what they are? The coach and the GM both got the boot and Bill Cowher said "No fucking thanks" and I seriously doubt Scott Pioli is going to want any of what is going on in Cleveland. The talent is there they say but the losing culture is too. Yet another head coach and another rebuild are on the way and this team still has fans. That alone makes you wonder about the alcohol sales rate in the Cleveland area.

- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

9-3 to 9-7. I am not that good at math but doesn't that mean they lost their last 4 and choked yet again? Last year at least they still made the playoffs when they did it, this year they tried their best to let Dallas back in. The real kicker in all of this is the last game was lost to the Raiders. Oakland wasn’t even playing for pride, they were playing for payback. Misery loves company and they got theirs and you got jacked up. Maybe Monte's leaving caused a distraction but more likely is the fact that this team’s average age is 63.8 and they just get too tired in a 16 game season. Chucky won’t be fired this year, he is still riding that super bowl he won with Dungy's players, but another collapse like this and they will have no choice.

- The New York Brets

Hey, here's a great idea... Let’s get rid of Noodle Arm Pennington who can't throw it 35 yards but doesn't throw interceptions and get Bret I-can't-see-double-coverage Favre to go along with all these bad ass free agents we signed. If that sounds like a bad idea, then you are smarter than Eric Mangini, and chances are you probably still have your job. This team was 8-3 and lost 4 of their last 5. If you look up choke job in the dictionary there will be a team photo of the 2008 New York Jets. The players didn't like Bret and the coaches tried to build their offense around him. With a new stadium set to open soon and an epic fail like this you knew someone had to pay. The bad news is they still want Favre to come back...

- The Denver Broncos

If the Jets are chokers then the Broncos are the guy who is dead from being choked out. The Jets just kinda of fell on their face but the Broncos went out in epic fashion and had to gag on a fifty burger to top it all off. Jay Cutler is still yelling at Brandon Marhsall for not being 12 feet tall and having the arms of Mr. Incredible. With their loss on Sunday night the Denver Broncos became the Chicago Cubs of 1969 (since most of you are too young, the Cubs blew the biggest lead ever to lose the pennant to the Miracle Mets that year. Google it.). No one has ever blown a lead like this in NFL history. Maybe now Shannahan can stop telling that story about Elway diving for the first down against Green Bay.

- The Dallas Cowboys

44-6. 14 of those were scored by Philly in the 3rd quarter before their offense even got on the field. This team has T.O., Roy Williams, Jason Witten, Flozell Adams, Marion Barber, Demarucs Ware, Terrance Newman, Tony Romo, Bradie James, Greg Ellis and a few more I don't know about I am sure. The most talent ever on a team in the free agent ear and they miss the payoffs and no one is getting fired? The Jets don’t have half that talent and their coach got the foot, is Jerry Jones nuts? I know he isn't stupid, in fact he is one of the best businessmen in the world, but he sure doesn't know jack about running a team. This team, whose coaches will not be fired, were the most penalized in all of football this year. The blame game is in full effect as players by the day point the finger everywhere but to themselves. This team should be embarrassed to be called America's team with the way they went out. First they let the Ravens rip off back to back monster runs in their own house then they go to Philly and don't even bother to show up. Wade says he is going to get tough, but how tough can he get with J.J. always taking the players side. Hey Jerry, that guy that called you and just laughed his ass off and didn't say anything? That was Bill Parcells.

That’s all I have for this time folks, tune in next week for the playoff edition when we will here Arthur Blank say:
"Mike who? I'm sorry I don't know anyone name Mike Vick."

Thanks to all who have read this stuff all season and a big shout out to all the sites that tolerated my posting this. All comments are welcome and you may flame me if you like, but as always...

This is only my opinion and that and $134.56 plus shipping will get you a bulb for a 42" Sony Wega LCD HD TV. Until next time, I really do hate the Cowboys.

The Bears aren't 8-8 idiot.

And Orton is the least of the Bears problems, as he actually led the team to some victories this year.

Get your shit straight.

Like it matters. No playoffs is all that matters...I do like Orton though, the defense was really crappy this year.

they might as well be 8-8, they didnt make the playoffs anyways. Orton is a huge problem, so is that old ass D and the lack of wide outs. Rex led the team to some victories too.

lol, I don't get why you say these type of things. What is your reasoning behind "Vince will do fine next year", cause all signs point to him never being a good NFL QB, ya know like the 10 more interceptions than TD's, 68 QB rating, 57 completion %, his general lack of poise....

I know what it means. 'He's a supposed rookie, and he won Rookie of the Year because of it'. WTF?

I think he was trying to say that he didn't really play like a rookie. Which is why he won.
