Did everyone skip this game? It's really, really good. The story is corny, and the cutscenes are bad, but the actual gameplay is great. It's like the fun parts of assassin's creed on an insanely large scale. It actually feels a lot like Mario Galaxy, except bigger and more complicated. I really, really like it. I'd recommend giving it a shot if you like platformers at all.

It's on my list, just lower on it. I see myself getting it in March-April. I have a LOT of 2006-2008 games yet to get that are good and cheap.

I rented it and tried it out, just didn't like it. And I'm typically a huge fan of platformers.
Liked the first PoP from last generation, but I don't know. The controls just felt clunky, whereas they for a character like the one you have, they should be much more fluid.
Granted I didn't play a lot of it, I just didn't care for it that much. I might rent it again sometime and try again.

It takes a while to get used to, but once you do it becomes very, very fluid. I can run through the maps now and it feels completely organic and intuitive.... you just have to get used to it.

The game, overall was good. I think the previous games were better but this one was fun. The controls are pretty damn smooth, like Tim said, i think you just need to get used to em. The game is super easy, but that didn't bother me as much because i have more time to enjoy the locales and the story rather than worry about dying around every corner.

I liked it but it started getting a bit repetative, but if the story gets interesting, I'll start playing again soon. I heard the end was a bit controversial, in that you'll either love it or hate it. That has me a bit intrigued.

Ohhh yea, the end is deff a WTF??? moment. And that can either be a good or bad thing. I personally sat in silence for about 5 min just trying to take in what happened.

The game is just so insanely beautiful... and the levels are so well designed, that I'm enjoying it in the way I enjoyed Mario Galaxy, it just keeps throwing new and interesting level designs at you. I find myself pausing to admire the game a lot... or like the first time you use the green plate... the sonic-ish feel of those parts is just cool.
The level with the giant floating airships is one of the best looking levels I've ever seen in a videogame.

I love this game. Talking to the guys who made it in San Francisco was one of the best experiences I've had as a journalist thus far. You could tell that the combat designers and the Producer of PoP both had a strong appreciation for their title and what they had achieved with it.
That said, I believe I gave it a 9/10 when I reviewed it for work. It's definitely a solid title every one should own.

Yea the game was really fun, altho i think they took a DRASTIC step backwards in the combat department from the Sands of Time trilogy. I remember them talking about having the combat always be one on one, i didnt think that was a good idea when they announced it and i still think it was a poor idea once i tried it. Im eager to see where this series heads, but i have to say that the Sands of Time trilogy got off to a much better start.

I kind of liked the fighting it just needed more going against you in it. The bad guys are two repetitive.
The ending: I don't know, I get it, but its a definite WTF moment. I was kind of assuming you would die, not Elika with the whole big bad getting loose because of you. Also wouldn't have minded more of a choice in it.

Yea the ending was deff hit or miss. I didnt mind it, as it set up future games and was a bit of a throw to the Sands of Time.

I just rented this game last weekend and I think it's great. It's so well-done... better than any PoP game I've played before. And like others have said, it's beautiful. Looking for the blue orbs is as fun as looking for collectables in LBP. I wish I would have just bought it, 'cuz I'm gonna end up getting it anyway. Hoping Ebay can come through for me. Anyone who's never tried this should definitely give it a go. I was as on the fence as anyone, but I think it's great and I wish I wouldn't have waited so long.

Yea it was a really fun game, even if it was way too easy. Altho with a game like this, i rather enjoy the ride then struggle through the game, the ending was still one of the biggest WTF moments iv experienced in awhile. The combat was pretty fun too, altho not as fun as the combat from the last trilogy. Maybe it was the lack of consequence in the combat. I hope, for the next installment, they remove the training wheels.

I totally agree with the way they had Elika follow you and help you along though. It would have been way to frustrating to die every time you fell and have to wait for a loading screen. I think they do well at punishing you for falling by making you start farther back in some situations, but dying every time would have been too much. It really frees you up to try things and makes everything flow so much better once you're able to just look at the environment and go. The battles though... yeah, they were pretty weak.
One small gripe I have with Ubisoft in general, is the screen tearing on the PS3 versions of all their games. It's not too bad in this game, but it happens here and there. Nothing like Farcry 2 though - that game made me sick some times. They need to get that shit figured out, take the PS3 seriously already.
I'll get this eventually, but with Fallout 3, Street Fighter and Killzone 2, and Mercenaries 2 (which I haven't even played yet), I'm not going to have time for another game yet.
Griz, why don't you pick this up at Circuit City?

Fuck Circtuit City. I went there this weekend, they only had a few games left so I decided on Far Cry 2, which was marked at 59.99 - after the discount I got it for $38. I went to Best Buy right afterwards 'cuz I had some reward zone cash to use on Bioshock, and I saw Far Cry 2 there for $40. Prince of Persia is only $40 at Best Buy right now too, so... I really wish I would have skipped on CC alll together and just got PoP and Bioshock. And I hate.... hate Far Cry 2 - it has a bunch of good ideas, but in the end it's broken. I've got a bitter taste for Circuit City after this weekend.
Lol, thinking about it now, I remember Dark Sector was there for 59.99 as well - that's criminal.
edit: I just saw there's an expansion coming for this game in a couple weeks... definitely gonna buy now.
Yea, you have to be careful with that. A lot of the games are higher than they are at BB but there are a lot that aren't.
Mercenaries 2 is $29.99 at BB and I got it for $17 at CC.

Yea i didnt mind the lack of consequence with the platforming, there were times where u just couldnt tell if you could make a jump or not and not having Elika would have been a pain. However they gotta do something with the combat. They need to go back to the SoT style combat.

Yea, i went to CC a week or so ago to check some of the store closing deals, yea nothing there whatsoever.
I thought Far Cry 2 was really really good. Its such a change of pace from the mind numbingly linear titles like Call of Duty. There are a few kinks that bug me(ie not being able to go 25 ft before youre attacked) but overall the game is really good. I love the environments.

It wasn't unplayable or anything, but it was pretty unpleasant to say the least. It's nice to look around every now and again, especially with how nice everything looks in the game, with the jungle setting, but you can't do one full 360 degree turn without seeing some major screen tearing. Although I thought it had many good ideas that I'd like to see other games try, I can't say I agree with you totally with the game design. Things like going out of your way for saving and moving from one post to the next gets real old, real quick - gets repetetive... seems like Ubisoft has a knack for that, just like they make lesser games for the PS3. So for me, the graphical problems with the PS3 version was just a nice shit-cherry on top.

Haha, ah i see. I dont have a problem with the save system. I think its pretty abundant. Auto saves during the middle of missions, then you have the option to save at any guard shack, safe house, etc. My two main gripes were the shirtless enemies who would take 6 rounds to drop and the fact that i couldn't drive around for more than a minute without being attacked. Other than that, i really think the game is good. I love being able to wait til nightfall before i start my ambush on a prison camp, or just using a mortar to launch a few rounds into the base, but my fav thing was ambushing the weapons shipments. Nothing like setting up an IED on the side of the road, hiding in a bush then pressen that little button just at the right time...awesome.
But enough Far Cry talk. Im stoked for the DLC for this game. I wasnt dissapointed in the ending, but i deff wanted a little more. So the epilogue DLC will be just what i need.

Just bought it... I was tempted to go Street Fighter IV, but PoP is on sale for $40 at BB through Saturday, so I decided to get it, especially since I'll be getting KZ2 and The Show in the next two weeks.
Anyways though, can't wait for the DLC. I'm gonna finish the game tonight probably, then I'll just be wanting more. This and Dead Space were the two most underrated games of 2008 IMO.

I saw it coming as the Prince and Elika slowly fell in love over the course of the game, and every time she healed a land it seemed to take a toll on her - I knew it was going to come down to the Prince making that decision. The execution of the last segment of the game was some of the best I've seen.
It felt like a "WTF?" moment ... but I was thinking "hell yes!"
