SCEA has just sent out a press release detailing what readers of this blog already know. Although PS3 is an expensive machine, it's a better value than the other competing systems. In a press release called "Keeping Entertainment Simple," the company showed this chart showing all the things you get in the PS3 that you can't in other systems. Yes, it's a biased chart, but it's the kind of information that SCEA should be spread in the first place. Imagine if they put this info in a retail store? Perhaps more consumers would think kindly of Sony's black box.

Yeah...this should work lol. Not like they haven't tried this route before.

I love how apparently someone would buy an Arcade and then buy a hard drive separately. Brilliant.

Regardless most of the stuff being tacked on those people don't care about. Wi-Fi for example.

Not saying the PS3 isn't a good deal, it is for me since I need Blu-ray. Just for the people they're trying to attract this is kinda ridiculous.

LOL @ HDMI not available in earlier models. Are those even around anymore?

So why doesn't Sony list the things you have to buy with the PS3???

Component or HDMI Cables
Headset

Believe it or not but people do buy the cheapest system then when they get home and realize that they need this in order to save games and an HD to get online.

Hell I'm guessing this past holiday season alone is the cause for most of that not to mention the fact that I can't seem to find a damn 60gb HD myself.

Heh, like Prime noted, I love it how you underestimate human ignorance/stupidity.

lol Hustlin

They tried this before and it doesn't work for the average consumer.

The same reasons some people use Layaway are some reasons why the Arcade 360 sells.

And I'm at least happy the article says it's biased.

What about the casual gamer who doesn't want to play online or who doesn't care about Blu-Ray? Too bad. It's stuck in there.

Seriously.

I like this quote from the comments section:

I hope people are being facetious as this sort of information was widely distributed throughout the intra-web prior to the launch of the PS3.

And with good online stores, you can get all that 360 stuff for way less and be out about the same as a PS3.

They should be more worried about pushing what THEY do better than 360 rather than comparing what 360 CAN'T do. Sony has good things going for it now, why don't they talk about that rather than waste time trying to spin an intentional sales strategy as a flaw.

John McCain tried the same 'look at his flaws' tactic and it didn't work either.

Not really the point of what is being discussed. If they're going to chart it out and give the benefit of the doubt to the PS3 then the same should be done for the 360. "Forgetting" to include cables and headset or mention that WiFi wasn't available in some early models when it comes to the PS3 but list everything someone might want for the 360 and that they'd start with the Arcade...just too funny to me.

I'm not a business genius, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Sony would make more money in the long run by either building or licensing a BluRay player that will work with the Xbox360. M$ is far enough ahead in this phase of the console war that they should refocus their energy on sniping a piece of the Xbox360 pie. A $149 BluRay addon for the XBox 360 would sell like gangbusters.

Then focus their marketing on selling PS3 as a multimedia center and perhaps a PC replacement for those who only use their home PC for browsing and email.

HD streaming video and digital downloads is going to destroy BluRay if Sony doesn't do something to get some market penetration with the format in a hurry.

$100 cut in April prediction. So much for the talk in this thread about Sony not needing it.

pachter has been WAY off before, so I don't completely buy this.

ya he has. he's right to at times. either way I don't really care about this since I already own one. But if they do drop it $100 thats a steal with all that you get.

a price cut making it 299 would make it a better buy than a 360 hardware wise thats for sure.. i'm just not sure if its going to be in april.. i was thinking some time this summer

If they cut to $299 (and at this point that's tough to imagine) the 360 is positioned so well that they would probably just respond with a cut of their own.
