Does this give you the ability? I fished the game and had to go back to a save so I can do the side quest.

Ya know, i thought it did, but i was mistaken. Its the 3rd piece of DLC that does that, Broken Steel, which also raises the level cap to 30. Itll be out in March.

I played through the first part last night and it was great. I can't wait to go home.
Man, this game is CRACK! I am so glad that I rented it at Blockbuster. I HAD TO get this game after playing it for a week straight. I got the Collector's Edition at Circuit City for only $35.
I'm a level 13 "Harbinger of War" lol. I'm currently working on the Reily's Rangers quest and I'm going to attempt the Ultra 10mm SMG glitch to get more caps.
I'm making this the "Official" thread.
Any dates on the PS3 DLC? The regular game will keep me busy for a LONG time. I just wish I kept some of my earlier saves. I'm going to try go get the Platinum Trophy on this one.

I wouldnt doubt if the DLC comes to the PS3 some time this summer. I figure all 3 will come out for the 360/PS3 for some given amt of time then after theyre all out, itll hit the PS3.

Soon as it does I'm going to be right there ready to download.
I swear this game is so freaking tight I just can't understand how anyone can hate on it. It basically has everything you would want in an action game and then some. The world is so freaking huge that I probably put close to 25hrs into the game and finally got around to talking to 3-Dog. lol
Kinda has me in the same mode as The Show 08 last year. Even though GTA and MGS4 was out I couldn't stop playing The Show. Now here it is a couple days away from SFIV and week or so from KZ2 and I'm sure to still be playing Fallout 3.

Question:
1.) Did anyone actually blow up Megaton?...If so was is really worth it?
2.) What is the easiest way to get to Rivet City?...I'm trying to help out this kid who needs a place to live and he said he got family there I gotta talk to first.
3.) Is putting points toward the Barter and Speech skill, really worth it?
Hombre
02-17-2009, 06:06 PM
Answers...
1) I blew up Megaton and it was amazing...I won't spoil anything for you, but if you have the opportunity to do so, do it!
2) you have to go through the whole historic district to get to Rivet City...it's a bitch but you'll eventually get there.
3) The Barter and Speech skill are two of the more usefull skills you have,...well, mainly the speech skill...if you don't feel like doing a side quest to get certain info, if you're speech skill is high enough, you can just talk your way to the info...this comes in handy plenty throughout the entire game.
MF Prime
02-17-2009, 08:55 PM
Ah too late I went ahead and fixed the bomb, I figured keeping Megaton around would be better in the long run. Seems like a good home base and I got a little shack to throw all my junk into with a pimp little butler. Maybe on my next playthrough when I'm a straight asshole I'll blow the town up and see the fireworks.
And walking through the historic district is indeed a pain in the ass, the battles aren't so bad, but I'm always getting lost and find myself taking on extra side missions. I swear I have ADD or something, cause I can never stick to doing just one mission at a time.
MaSTA SoLIDUS

I find just walking in a direction set by waypoint is easiest.
And I'm a total Villain of the Wastes...so when I need money I basically have a scavenger repair my weapon/armor, then kill him and take all his money and stuff.
I'm going to keep a save when I get to level 19 though, that way I can get both lv 20 achievements. All you have to do to become good from being bad is spending 2000 caps donating to the Children of the Atom. Instant goodness.
Yea, I wish I saved earlier so I can get all the other trophies at the other levels.
I did the Sydney "Unlimited SMG glitch" and now I have a ton of caps. I saved right before I did it so if I want to go back to being a broke bastard, I can.
Here's what you have to do:
Do the Declaration of Independance quest.
Do Reily's Rangers and find the note from Sydney's dad in the Statesman Hotel.
I unloaded everything except for items that have no weight, one weapon and my armor so I can carry as many SMGs as I can before I did this.
Find Sydney in the Underworld and say this:
* 1) Since we're done now, why don't you tell me about yourself?
* 2) Nice gun. I've never seen one like that.
* 3) That's all for now, I guess.
* 4) So, whatever happened to your father?
* 5) Sydney, I found a note from your father. He didn't abandon you.
Congratulations, you just got another free 10mm Ultra SMG.
Repeat that until you can't carry anymore. Don't worry, you can come back anytime and do it again.

It was most likely in a place like Tenpenny Towers. Didn't happen there, so I don't think it's going to happen.
Mass Effect vs. Fallout 3.
I've rented ME via Gamefly it's a splendid game with all of the nook-n-crannies. Fallout 3, on the other hand, is quite bland and lacking serious depth as far as I'm concerned.
Maybe I'm wrong to assume that these are both Action-Oriented RPGs' or am I the only one who feels this way???
MaSTA SoLIDUS
02-19-2009, 06:50 AM
You are wrong, neither are action oriented.
Mass Effect is more a dialogue-based linear RPG, and Fallout is an Open World RPG. Fighting isn't the most important aspect of either game...exploration is for Fallout, and conversations is for Mass Effect. Just because they are RPGs that use guns doesn't mean they are action-heavy (mind you I found all the fights to be very enthralling in both, but I mean as far as pacing goes, the games are designed to keep action at the forefront).
I remember talking with Prime about this...if you look at Western RPGs in the wrong light, you are going to skew your opinion of it differently. If you expect ME to be a run and gun gameplay RPG, you'd be dissapointed.
...As far as Fallout, I don't know how you can say a game world that is 16 sq. miles in size that is actually more dense than Oblivion lacks depth. Depth is all Fallout has, if it has anything. But because it's completely non-linear in design, if you don't like the open-world flavor of western RPGs, you won't like it.

02-19-2009, 06:53 AM
Damn Solidus you beat me to it :P
Anyways its basically like he said, but I definitely feel that ME is very boring in comparison to Fallout 3. Fallout 3 has so much stuff to do and people to actually battle you are always on edge, I didn't get that in ME which is why I didn't make it through the whole game.
It was a fun game, but damn if those endless amount of conversation trees and everyone trying to get you to run errands for them with little to no action in between get boring.
MaSTA SoLIDUS
02-19-2009, 06:55 AM
I didn't find either boring...just different ways of pushing their stories forward.
But to say Fallout lacks depth...lol

NO doubt LoL.
I guess it was wrong of me to say its boring, I mean the way the story is presented, from the characters emotions through conversations, cinematic style of camera angles, it was no doubt a game that would make Ebert question his take on games not being art.
Its just as a game itself the combat was lame. Maybe later it picked up with more frantic battles, but honestly the only time I really had to think and slow things down was fighting those giant cockroaches on the snow planet. Outside of that all the battles I encountered were easy and over in 5min.

wow if you didn't get to the....conclusion of ME, you missed the biggest fights of the game and honestly one of the most epic sequences I've ever seen in a game. The choices too were tough to make.
Definitely beat the game--bypass the extra sh*t. But the game's story is nuts at the end.

Hell sometimes I wish Fallout had a vehicle or something to get around in, no matter how crappy it is I need something for transportation besides my boots.
Especially since I'm a big ass collector/trader who grabs and sells everything I see. Still remember the dreaded walk I had to take cause I was overcumbered and didn't feel like dropping anything. Swear the walk from Super Duper Mart to Megaton took almost a damn hour.

Yea, the Strong Back perk is a great one, I wish it had more than 1 rank. Also, you can drink alcohol which increases your strength by 1 allowing you to carry 10 more pounds.
I think the Mysterious Stranger is the best perk though. I still lol every time he shows up. The music is great.

Thank you for explaining the differences b/t both games. I didn't know that they were under specific genre categories.
I've read some posts about the interesting things to do in F3 and your mini-write-up was kinda pleasing to read. I might give it a second chance and rescind my previous post.

Try to raise your repair points, then you can "combine" multiple weapons and make a better, more expensive weapon instead of carrying around multiples. Also, try to store as much as you can in your locker of your house so you don't have to carry it around everywhere.
The Mysterious Stranger will visit you when you're in VATS mode and unload on your enemies with a 44 Magnum. It's awesome.

No need to carry more than one of a weapon, if you have 30 hunting rifles, repair 1 and that will get that one at its optimal state and you wont have the other 29 to carry.

Not so much 'categories' as design disciplines. Bethesda makes open-world RPGs. Bioware makes linear dialogue-driven RPGs. Both make western RPGs which differ drastically from Japanese RPGs.
I think they way you approach an RPG matters as your expectations affect how you view it. Knowing a developer's flavor is key to enjoying their games within their design style.
I'd just say play a game and notice what is put most prominently in front of you. Developers are generally good enough now to immediately let you know what they think matters most in their game.
Fallout 3, the first time you step out the vault the scope of the world becomes apparent.
Mass Effect, the opening dialogue after your characters introduction lets you see how the dialogue wheel works.
And so on.
Make enjoying the RPGs much easier when you know how they want you to experience it.

I know what they look like, what I'm saying is that I have not run into any ammo for it other than the crash site...
I know, and I'm telling you that they are there. Here's where they are:
* 120 (10 magazines of 12 rounds) can be found in and around the Alien Crash Site.
* 96 (8 magazines of 12 rounds) can be found under an overturned truck in a radioactive crater west of Jury Street Metro Station (halfway to Fort Bannister, and south of VAPL-58 Power Station).
* 2-22 without the Scrounger perk (17 on average), or 2-122 with the perk (92 on average), can be found in two ammo boxes in Fort Independence, in the Outcast weapons room (Hard locked door) where you find the Miss Launcher. The method by which the outcome is determined (rolling for 1s at a 75% chance, 10 and/or 50 times) pretty much guarantees that the results will be on the high side (i.e., near 75% of 10 or 50). For each box, the number found is:
o 1 guaranteed
o Up to 10 more, as a 75% chance of getting one, sampled 10 times. This means you'll almost always get at least 5, and usually 7 or 8, with a max of 10.
o Up to 50 more, again at 75% chance, if you have the Scrounger perk. You'll usually get around 37 or 38, and extremely rarely more than 43 or less than 32 (but 0 is theoretically possible). For more info, see Talk.
* 24 can be found falling near you together with the Firelance in a random encounter.
* 2-111 can be found on the ground by Alexandria Arms which is across the street from the Arlington Library (not verified)
* you can find 5-15 cells outside and north of MDPL-16 Power Station on the top north east section of the map.

its worth it to play the other games, even though they are on the PC and the graphics are dated. they are really fun games, but the combat system is pure vats. they added the FPS for the consoles so the game would appeal to more people.

Just started playing it and I'm hooked. I don't even get into RPG's normally. I didn't care for Oblivion at all but this one has managed to keep me interested. I haven't even started on the second mission of the main quest, I'm busy working on a bunch of side quests.
Yea fallout 3 is the shit. ive played it and beat it 3 times now... still addicting though the pack really wasnt worth 10 bucks

I had all intentions of going evil with this game (like I do in every game) but as I played it, I couldn't help but be good. I saved Megaton even. Got a bobble head and a sweet house out of it, so I can't say it was a bad thing.

and the Pitt and Broken Steel aren't out yet. They come out this month and next.

the next expansion for Fallout 3 comes out today, Broken steel.
im thinking about picking it up either today or tomorrow.
In this DLC pack, the player will join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all.
In addition to amending the main quest to let players continue their adventures after the end of the main quest and raising the level cap to 30, Broken Steel's quest line is announced to be of the same length as the ones of Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt.[1].
Broken Steel will also add a couple of new side quests, most of which have to do with escorting freshly processed clean water across the Wasteland and protecting it from Raiders. Broken Steel will take about five hours to complete and side missions could take up to an hour to finish. [1]
The third DLC for Fallout 3 will add new enemies including Albino Radscorpions, Feral Ghoul Reavers, Super Mutant Overlords and Enclave Hellfire Troopers[2]. These will be equipped with new armor and weaponry which the player can acquire. Broken Steel will also add several new perks to cover the additional 10 levels as well as new encounters.[1]
[edit] Story
Broken Steel alters the ending of the original Fallout 3 to allow continued play after the end of the main quest line. This means that when it is time to go into the reactor at the end of Take it Back!, you can still go in yourself or you can send one of three side characters. However, even if you go yourself, you do not die. Instead, you survive the ordeal and wake up two weeks later at the Citadel.[3] If you allow the Purifier to explode, the game will still end.
The new content starts about two weeks after the events of Fallout 3's main quest and begins in the vicinity of Project Purity which is now up and running. The battle between the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave is still ongoing and the player is tasked with helping to build a Tesla Cannon, a new, more powerful weapon for the Brotherhood. Once you have retrieved the necessary parts from Olney Powerworks, an old power plant, and the Cannon has been built, you travel to Adams Air Force Base via the Presidential Metro Line where the assault on the Enclave begins.[2]
It has been announced that the player's action throughout Fallout 3 will be woven into some of the quests in Broken Steel. For example, if the player decides to infect Project Purity with the modified FEV, it will affect how the Capital Wasteland looks as well as the interactions with the local inhabitants
and the next expansion is rumored to be something named point look.

Still holding out for the Oft chance these bastards decide to give us PS3 users atleast one of the expansions. I mean I love the game and I'm taking my time going through it but I really wish some info would leak out about some Possible PS3 DLC.
However with reports of 2/3, this expansion included, being buggy and shotty as hell I'm not really sure if I want it just yet. lol

i did read on fallout wikia that some companies accidently leaked a pre order for a combo broken steal, point look box. which if true might bring the possibility of the expansions coming to the ps3. which bethesda would be crazy not to release the expansions for that console aswell.
and for all you PC fallout players hold off on getting broken steal as it is broken for the pc. the error is on microsofts side and they are looking into it.

Bethesda has announced that those Fallout 3 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fallout-3) DLC packs that Xbox 360 owners have been enjoying for the last few months will be heading to the PS3 starting with Operation: Anchorage (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/operation-anchorage) in late June. The other two DLC packs, The Pitt (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-pitt) and Broken Steel (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/broken-steel) will be released four to six weeks apart. A patch will be released for the game in order to make these DLC packs work with the PS3 version of the game. All release dates are yet to be nailed down.
In addition, two new DLC packs have been announced and will be heading to both platforms. Point Lookout, as revealed by retailers (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/01/retailer-listings-suggest-fourth-fallout-3-expansion/) earlier this month, will feature a massive swampland area to explore and in Mothership Zeta you'll suffer through an alien abduction. These packs will be available on Xbox 360 and PC starting late June and on PS3 once the first three have been released.
If you don't have an internet connection (huh?) these packs can still be obtained through two new disc-based packages for Xbox 360 and PC. The first -- containing Anchorage and The Pitt-- will be available in June in Europe and May 26 in the US, with the second containing the rest of the DLC in August worldwide. A GOTY version of Fallout 3 will be available in October for PS3, 360 and PC, which will include all five add-on packs.

motheship Zeta sounds hilarious, i wonder what type of armor you'll be able to get.
but i read somewhere that We humans created the aliens, and this was stated in one of the previous games. so maybe its the old government that wants too check on how much their race has changed since the nuclear winter.

Ah finally, I've been holding off on playing Fallout 3 till some good news on the PS3 Dlc has been released. A couple more months of letting it sit on the sideline aint going to hurt much, hopefully these won't be ported over with all the problems associated with the earlier ones.

mothership zeta
first pic released
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/5/52/Mothership_Zeta.jpg
In Mothership Zeta the aliens have returned and they are not happy. The mothership answers the distress call sent out by the alien ship at the Alien Crash Site and abducts the player, making the whole add-on take place on board of the alien ship[5].
The environment will be artistically different from the rest of Fallout 3, with nearly no assets reused[5].
You will be able to take a spacewalk possibly outside the ship. [1]
You will recieve a radio transmission that is unintelligeble which will lead you to the alien crash site which players might already have visisted. It won't be the friendliest of greetings. The player will then be onboard the Mothership Zeta were they will meet other prisoners and plot their escape. [1]
Mothership Zeta will still be in orbit. They have been watching Earth for quite some time. [1]
There will be Alien Power Cells but still in a limited quantity [1]
Onboard the Mothership, the questline won't be completely linear and will feature some exploration [1
you'll be able to take a space walk! freakin awesome
also they are only using a few textures from fallout so this might be the biggest DLC size wise (might).
Mothership Zeta will be the fifth and last[1] Fallout 3 add-on, to be released on 28 July 2009[2][3] for the Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live.
well they thought that they weren't going to make any DLC's original and i remember reading online that they might continue to make more DLc depending on how much they make off of these last two "point lookout and Zeta"

Nope, they're all separate on XBL as well.
I think I'm going to start playing this game again. I still haven't beaten it. I had everything done but the final mission(I was waiting to play it because the game just ended after you completed it and I wanted to explore some more) when I got my new 360 and hard drive.

I just finished beating the original a few weeks back. Ended with the T51 Power Armor and the Android Plasma Rifle with Alien Blaster Sidearm. I suppose I should have ramped up the difficulty toward the end because only Sentry Bots were giving me any work. The only two side quests that I hadn't completed were the Nuka Cola Challenge and the one with the lady's violin. It was a pretty good 70 hours of my life, but I don't think I can jump back in for a little while without a) my wife divorcing me and b) see reason "a".
