Hell yeah!!
It's not quite a touchdown yet, but at least they're near the end zone. Sources confirm to me exclusively that NBC is engaged in active talks with DirecTV to extend their unique shared-window experiment with Friday Night Lights. But there's a catch -- and it's a good one. According to an insider close to the negotiations, DTV and NBC might only seal the deal if they can get – holy Connie Britton Taylor! -- a two-season pickup.
Though a spokesperson for NBC Universal declined to comment, a Peacock insider acknowledges that the studio is "actively looking at ways to keep FNL going." Another NBC source adds, "We're very optimistic a deal will be worked out."
The one possible complication? The show's behind-the-scenes quarterback, Jason Katims, is attached to NBC's buzzy Parenthood pilot. If it's picked up, he would either do double duty or be forced to make a choice. Similarly, the show's go-to director, Jeffrey Reiner, is helming NBC's Trauma pilot. FNL might be able to carry on without one of its MVPs, but both? Hmm…
But maybe it's too soon to be wringing our hands over changes to the lineup. Once we have a pickup under our belt, then we can worry about such things. And while we wait for the official word, let's show NBC and DirecTV what a wise decision they would be making by keeping FNL alive by sounding off below.

This was the news that made my week. FNL is consistently the best show on TV.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Friday Night Lights" fans can rejoice: NBC has ordered two more seasons of the critically lauded but ratings-challenged drama series.
The network and DirecTV have finalized a deal for a 26-episode order (two seasons of 13 episodes each) to the series about a Texas high school football team.
Under the pact, "Friday Night Lights" will continue to premiere on DirecTV with a second window on NBC.
Faced with the prospect of canceling the series because of its soft ratings, NBC first struck a pact with DirecTV last year to share the cost of the show's current third season, which did well for the satcaster in the fourth quarter.
Helping make the pickup economically viable is the fact that "Friday Night Lights" is very efficiently produced in Austin, Texas, where the show also enjoys tax incentives. To keep costs even lower, the two upcoming seasons may be filmed back-to-back. Season 4 will air next season, while Season 5 will run the following season.
Additionally, the two-season pickup for "Friday Night Lights" makes the show easier to syndicate as it brings its episode count to 77.
Most "Friday Night Lights" cast members, including stars Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, are set to return. Not coming back as regular is Minka Kelly, whose character has graduated.
"Friday Night Lights" was created by Peter Berg, the filmmaker behind the 2004 feature.

awesome episode. Glad this show is back, starts off strong from the get go.
Only 1 thing i didn't like about it
I understand why they made jd into a douche but either that kid is a horrible actor or they didn't develop the character very well. Any one else think the party scene was cheezy as hell? "This is my dillon now". Dude sounded like a wrestler from WWF

I agree, I'm pumped for this show right now. Has all the makings of a great season.
And I think the JD scene just showed how much of a bitch his character is - I don't think anyone likes him right now, and we're not supposed to. And as big as a football town as Dillon is potrayed to be, not too surprising that the little prick said that. That line pretty much summed up his characer

Probably not spoilers, but just to be safe
Vince is super cool. I wonder how they're going to drag him through the mud, since we know he has a troubled past. Also, over/under on Riggins banging that girl within 2 episodes?
