Granted this show is corny sometimes but I don't care I like it especially with quality TV going into a recession.

Who here watches? Only you can keep this thread from tumbleweeding!

Im watching it. Although It did get corny at the end of last season.

I don't care if it's corny. I've been watching/reading the hell out of some vampire books. The second season is so far straying somewhat from the book....
Layfette was the person found dead in the car in the book instead of the voodo lady. However the whole Sookie and Bill going to Dallas was in the book. The thing that attacked Sookie was explained right away in the book all the vamps knew what the hell it was that had attacked her. In the show Eric and Bill are all WTF was that thing. The new vamp Jessica was not in the book at all, but her storyline could end up pretty interesting.

Although I know that this was all done because unlike the book which makes it easy to focus on Sookie as the only character the show needs to explore the background of the other characters to keep it interesting. I'm not one of those people who will read a book and then watch it in film version and bitch about it being ruined. It makes the entire series more interesting for me.

Good post, Widow.

Plus, although I like Anna Paquin, I don't think her character would be strong enough to carry the show alone. They need character arcs for folks like Lafayette and Jessica to keep things interesting every hour.

Jason Stackhouse and Tara Thornton may be the worst actors on television right now.

Ummmm, question.....wtf is Maryann?
Is she the minotaur thing that attacked Sookie?
Or is she a succubus?!

I can seriously tell you but it would be a major spoiler so open only if you really want to know....
She is a maenads a god driven mad by he god of Bacchus (another Greek god who was the god of grape which is why bars are so interesting to them.). They're close to being immortal and they consider the violence sparked by the consumption of alcohol belong to them and they feed off of that and are attracted to pride. Which is why she probably keeps throwing all those off the wall parties, they feed into her power.

In the book she attacked Sookie to deliver a message to Eric. I don't know why she attacked Sookie in the show, since she clearly didn't give a message. Also in the book she was in full human form and had a conversation with Sookie prior to attacking her.

Even though it was completely different from the book I love the fact that Layfette is alive. He is easily one of my favorite characters on the show.

As far as the complaints of the other actors I don't have an issue with Paquin she's actually what I imagined in my mind as Sookie Stackhouse when I was reading the books. Wilson (Tara) is not want I pictured but her part in the book was a small part and almost never around, so I could never fully imagine her in my head.

I think it was the maenad, I guess Maryanne can change her form. The attack and the treatment that happened at Fangtastia were exactly the same in the book. Even Dr. Ludwig talking about the Komodo dragons was line for line in the book. It looks like it was slightly changed from the book to give it more mystery to keep viewers on their toes for the remaindered of the season. The whole maenad storyline was actually only a tiny storlyine in the book. The focus in the book was on the Dallas trip.

I know I'm an odd person. After the first two episodes of True Blood last year I ran out and bought the entire series on book. Even still I can rewatch and reread all the shows without feeling like I ruined it. I actually do that with alot of stuff. If I watch a movie and see "based on the story by ___" I run out and get the book. I did that with the Dexter show too and I knew who the killer was long before the season ended and had to keep my mouth shut to not ruin it for Rac.

Yea, I couldn't resist. It was pissing me off that I didn't know what was going on.

So, I also noticed in the last episode one of the vamps (I forget who) was talking about a werewolf attack. I wanna see some damn werewolves dammit!

MaddenWidow
07-01-2009, 06:14 PM
I posted spoilers but they won't ruin the entire season for you. The only thing they'll do is kill the WTF moment the show gives you when they tell you what Maryanne is. As far as the major Dallas story line I'm not saying ish on that. And honestly I really have no clue how close the writers are planing on keeping the show to the books so what I'm saying right now could end up being completely wrong. Right now it seems like there is a good chance the two could go separate ways.

Werewolves should be showing up in season 3 if they go the way the books are playing out.

P.S. Haze it was Eric that mentioned the werewolf. He told Bill that Dr. Ludwig was there to patch up one of Pam's pet humans who had been attacked by a werewolf. Geez I really need to read/watch something that is not vampire related.

It was a good night for Jason Stackhouse, I'll give him that. I'd been kinda down on his character but he came back strong yesterday.

There may be no hope for Tara, though, I'm afraid. Every scene with her is just plain awful.

So what do you think will happen with this nutjob with the silver bomb?

I'm thinking Godrick might sacrifice himself and Eric will start to turn good and follow in Godrick's footsteps to unite humans and vamps.

I like Godrick too and I hope he doesn't die, but I'm not sure how that will play out.

Notice nothing happened when he hit the trigger, although it was the final scene so you never know, but it would be funny if it doesn't go off.

Yeah even I was squirming a bit with that scene. I agree with everyone else they need to move the Maryanne storyline along already. Ok yes the lady can give such a crazy party that people will eat dirt, we got the point move it along please.

If you're a fan of the true blood page on FB they sent out a sneak preview for next weeks show.

I actually just bought two shirts from the show too, Rac pretty much just rolled his eyes at me. I picked up this one:

Rachel Wood's character this season or next? Apparently Bill goes to her for help to figure out what the hell Maryann is.

At the end of the first book Bill took off for a couple of days and that's when Rene went after Sookie. Turns out he went to some vampire political thing ran for a position and won, which gave him the right to be Eric's equal so he wouldn't be his bitch anymore. I know Rachel Wood is suppose to play the queen of Lousianna so I guess Bill will end up going to her in the show later on for some help to set himself up stronger politically

I was laughing so hard over the Hoyt and Jessica scene but at the same time had a flashback to that same pain. There is no way in hell I would be willing to relive that over and over. I would become the first vampire nun instead of dealing with that.

Terrorblaze

lol don't get all defensive. I mention the acting because IMO its a big reason why the only memorable character on the show (for me anyway) is Lafayette and Andy.

ERW is a big get for the show

MaddenWidow
08-11-2009, 10:20 AM
No I wasn't trying to be defensive. I can understand why some people can watch the show and be like "what the hell did everyone read Acting for Dummies before joining this show"? Even I'll roll my eyes at some of the corny lines and the corny delivery but that stuff pretty much goes hand in hand with a show like this. But personally I just don't see the negative take on the actors abilities.

I understand that it's not a show that is going to win everyone over. Hell my own husband can't stand it and I watch it every Monday morning so that him and I can find something else to do on Sunday night. I'm also the same person who pretty much falls in love with anything corny and over the top. I may be one of the few people who actually liked the Spirit and this crappy movie called Dirty Love. When Rac and I were watching Shoot Em Up I was laughing the entire time and he was close to dozing off. I'll go ahead and apologize in advance for being part of the reason studios keep making some of those obliviously bad movies, but I'm still gonna keep watching them.

It's a good thing there are so many flies around, I guess. I think they're playing fast and loose with the who can change into what and when thing. Yea, I think the animal only needs to be near him the first time. There was a conversation between Daphne and Sam and he said his "default shift" (don't remember the exact wording) was a dog and hers was a pig.

SheriffBooth
08-26-2009, 11:25 AM
Well, then the second I realized that I would have been at the zoo working on some useful shifts. If all he can shift into is a border collie and a housefly he is seriously wasting his ability.

What are those townspeople going to do if he transforms into a rhinocerous or an African elephant or something? He'd just stomp 'em into the ground.

If I were Sam I'd have been sure to spend some time hanging around zoos and thoroughbred racehorses. And maybe a little at Sea World time, too. Not too many people going to mess with a killer whale in the water.

Bottom line - Sam is not maximizing his potential.
