View Full Version : Thoughts on the patch

I have been experiencing some extreme difficulty after the patch (and no, I am not one to dash out when I am losing or after a KO/Submission). It seems that I am struggling in all aspects of my game, from transition reversals to simple things like getting a KO with your opponent mounted and damaged. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems, or have you figured out a new strategy?

I used to never be able to get reversals, possibly because I used wrestlers, and I didn't go for too many.
I just started doing it yesterday with BJJ guys and I get like 90% or the block even when going against a good BJJ opponent.
Works fine for me.
The best thing is being able to see how many times somebody has quit, so I can avoid them...I've avoided nobody so far, though...People don't want to quit now, I guess, because they'll take a loss, regardless.
Also, I have not ran into anybody with NO DNF. Myself, included. The first couple weeks I had the game, I'd quit when I thought somebody was using turbo or something. I stopped, but the patch retrograde checks how many times you've quit. Pretty funny...I'm sure there are number of guys out there who have their DNF percentage in the 90's.

I dashed out maybe 10 times when I first got the game and was frustrated. However my DNF is 43 (43 times, not percent). I realized that the game counts DNF's prepatch as ANY disconnect before the fight ends. If you go to the Game Progress menu from the main menu, you can look at what is as close to your "actual record" including DNFs. It shows only a few additional losses and a bunch of extra wins.
Still, its not just the transition reversals. The game just feels different in some points. Maybe I'm just going through a funk.

I haven't downloaded it yet but I've been reading about it. Apparently on the PS3 it updated the tattoos for certain fighters, Shogun now has all of his arm and leg tattoos and Diego Sanchez now has a new tattoo. Kind of odd that the 360 didn't get this.
It's also kind of dumb that they automatically assign you a DNF that counts all of the times people quit on you before the patch came out. They should have wiped it clean an started counting post-patch. I never quit a ranked match back when I played them but I've had a lot of people quit on me so there's no telling what my DNF will be.
It sucks that they came out with this patch so late. I have all of the achievements so there's no reason for me to bother with ranked matches anymore.
Also I don't like that they've reduced the flash KO rate. Strikers are already kind of disadvantaged in the game due to all of the online factors like lag and just the overall dominance of grappling. Reducing their chances of getting knockouts is a little unrealistic and unbalances the game. Before the patch a guy could stand there and just eat 5 hooks to the head and not get dropped, which was unrealistic enough, but now they can probably just soak up 7 or 8.

I saw a guy whose DNF% was 103%. I was amazed. I don't know how it is mathematically possible to quit more games than you have started. He had like 300 DNF's and 100 wins. I left immediatly.

Yeh I just got my 100th win yesterday. The only one I have left is to tap someone while gassed, and there are too many variables involved in that for me to attempt. So I have no real reason to play ranked, especially with all the frustrating things people do to get a win.

Honestly? Competition. There are some good players who play player matches, but I don't often have a fight on my hands.
When I really want to practice and challenge myself, I have to play ranked. Better players are found there.
Also, you know what really annoys me? That they have time to make all these new banners for Sprint or the next PPV or something, but they never throw us a bone. No new tattoos, no new trunks, no new patches to put on the trunks...you'd think this stuff would be simple to do, and yet they spend all their time on advertising...well that's not going to increase interest in the actual game.

For me, the frustration of people quitting far outweighs the superior level of competition in ranked. I've had 1 or 2 people quit on me in player matches due to them losing.. In ranked it was 50/50.
And I agree about the lack of customization. Each fighter should have a couple different trunks to choose from just to keep the game fresh. I get sick of seeing GSP's stupid THQ shorts.

The competition level is no different in player matches than in ranked. You randomly get matched up against either a low level or a high level. High level guy will quit out 75% of the time because he wants to protect his stupid little record, then it's back to searching again. It's stupid. In player matches I can just search and join a level 70 game and the guy will actually play since he doesn't have to safeguard a record.

Maybe my problem is that I never do this. I just look for quick games.
In my experience, the most competitive matches I've had were ranked.

I would have to agree that I get better matches in ranked games, moreso than in unranked. People do quit less in unranked though, but I do not care because I'm getting my win now anyway
