View Full Version : Offseason Free Agency --- My thoughts.

In light of the fact that the Draft in Online Franchise reveals ALL ratings before you even make your selection -- am I the only one who thinks that this makes Free Agency in the off-season a moot point?

It's now inevitable that the worst team is going to get the BEST possible player for their team without any doubt or risk of drafting a busted rookie. And the same goes for the second worst team, third worst, etc,....

I'm starting to feel that because of this -- there is no point in even having Free Agency in the off-season at all. It'll serve, literally, no purpose.

----

The way I see it, is if there is 10 80+ rated players in the draft at the end of the year...the top 10-15 worst teams are all going to improve their rosters to make them better for the next year, while the more solidified teams are probably going to just be picking up "depth," which really doesn't make them that much better in the "Madden sense."

As far as I've seen with injuries, it doesn't look like they happen all that often, which kind of makes having depth a moot point as well.

Any thoughts on this?

LOL @ this statement.

I don't think Dave does either, he was just stating that since this is the case then there won't really be a need for FA.

In OF does it limit your team size? If not then FA will be uneccessary, but if it does then that means people will have to drop players to get their draft picks. Even though they would probably all be their most shitty players, and probably wouldn't be worth picking up.

I don't think I got an answer about the draft showing potential ratings? Which could make it kind of a hit/miss type deal still.

Yeah, I don't mind them getting the best player, but I think it's ridiculous that they get multiple best players just for finishing last, you know?

And yes -- people will just release the bottom of the barrel guys.

Hell yes we better have free agency. You take away FA and the elite teams stay elite, Dave just wants to keep all his players lmao. Sneaky Sneaky

is it anymore fair that the guy who takes the lions starts with a crap roster and the guy who takes the patriots has a juggaurnaut? How does knowing the draft picks even relate to free agency

Because the draft IS now Free Agency.

In what world do you live in where you can see what Rookie QB is going to be an 86 OVR before you even draft him?

The NFL Draft is supposed to be like a LOTTERY... You take CHANCES on drafting players that you have NO CLUE on how they're going to turn out ratings-wise once you sign them.

That's how the offline franchise works and that's pretty much how real life works.

Do you think the Colts would have ever juggled between Leaf and Manning if they had the ability to see Manning would be a 99 and Leaf would be out of the league in 3 years? I'm sure the Chargers wouldn't have taken Leaf 2nd overall, would they? Probably not.

---

How does Free Agency work?

Teams can SEE and choose the BEST PLAYERS before hand in order to make their team better, right? Alright.

---

What the hell is the difference between our Rookie Draft and an actual Free Agency waiver system?

NOTHING.

So basically -- the worst team should get 1st and 2nd overall picks, the 2nd worst should get 3rd and 4th overall picks, etc,... since they're basically winning the NFL Draft not once, but twice, because of Free Agency.

Very realistic.

Elite teams in the NFL STAY elite teams in the NFL because of the front office decisions. Playing things out like a team like Detroit just stockpiles their team in one off-season because of the broken online draft system and automatically turns into an elite team is just a joke.

I'll be honest if there's no free agency I'll feel I'd be getting screwed over. Why?

My roster sucks and by the looks of the league it looks like I'll finish in the middle of the pack somewhere. If that's the case I'm fucked because I won't get a good draft pick anyway so if I can't sign a FA I won't be able to add anything to my crappy team. Why should I be punished for overachieving with a less talented roster?

as long as we institute... some manner in which each team has to release 1 or 2, 80+ rated players... it will keep things fresh... and spread the wealth somewhat...

It sounds about as fair as an Elite team ending up with a shitty draft pick and having to lose an elite player as well.

Why should an elite team be punished for being successful?

I really don't care which way we go, because I'm going to play regardless -- obviously we need a solution to it all to begin with and the last thread died out and fell back to the last page.

Yeah I dont see what this has to do with FA. We need FA to have some player movement and allow teams shots at revamping their roster without having trades as the only way to do that. When you talk about the draft, we're still looking at a team with a #1 pick getting one good player, then solid ones throughout the rest of the draft. That isn't going to turn the worst team into the best in one year.
