Premiers tomorrow at 9/8c.

Anybody else looking forward to this? Watched the first season and got hooked, and it's now easily the show I'm looking forward to most this fall.

i'd watch it, but the Canes play tomorrow night. :(

Can't wait to see what happens after last season's cliffhanger.

CR, no DVR?

Fringe must have gotten great ratings, Fox is putting it up against Office.

I thought the season finale was awesome. Very well done. I'm psyched for this.

I was skeptical when it first came out but downloaded season 1 and watched it last month and I really liked it. Definitely looking forward to it.

Pumped for tomorrow's episode... it's been hard to wait since the season finale.

Thursdays are a great night of TV for me... so glad I have DVR though.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia + Fringe + The office = a damn good night.

Haze, those pictures they use for the Fringe ads are awesome. I used to have a Fringe theme on my last PS3 - I need to find that back again.

Actually was going to start this thread today, got beat to the punch!

Awesome show. Intrigued to see where they go with it, seems like they really struck the right balance as the first season went on.

I loved how they moved from a more procedural angle to a more serial one in the first season. The show is being shot in Vancouver this year, and I'm anxious to see what kind of effect that will have. John Noble is so great in Fringe. Of course, anything Abrams conceived is usually good (Six Degrees not included).

Man this show is great. Season premiere was awesome. What a crazy ending. I'm still trying to figure out how that happened if the device was broken. I'm sure they will shed more light on it next week.

I thought Peter might have been a clone or was brought back from the dead but I guess Walter traveled to the alternate universe and took Bizarro Peter and kept him. I guess that's why he thinks his father was an asshole when he was little because it was Bizarro Walter, lol. This show is pure genius. I love it.

Yeah, as soon as I saw how that scene was playing out I wondered if he couldve shape-shifted into Charlie. Still when it was revealed at the end I was upset about it. Reminds me a little of Lost. Locke isn't Locke. Now Charlie isn't Charlie.

You didn't assume that when they showed Peter's grave at the end of last season? It's also why Walter is always getting things wrong about his childhood... they've been setting that up for a long time.

Not sure how I feel about the new girl yet. She was put almost into the main character of the episode for some of it, but she wasn't annoying (a la Nicky and Paulo on Lost). Like Pasta, also kind of saw Charlie dying and the shape-shifter taking his identity. It's too Abrams-esque for it not to happen.

I kinda figured that was gonna happen to Charlie cuz I read an article a while back saying that the actor wouldn't be returning for season 2 as a regular but they said they had figured out something creative for the character and I guess that was it.

Yea but I guess I just didn't put two and two together last season. I wasn't sure what he was, I thought he might have been a clone.

Yea, this show is easily top 3 on TV, probably my favorite show right now right next to Dexter.

Pumping people full of insane amounts of salvia and LSD = Awesome.

I love that you're finally getting answers and it looks like things are really heating up.

I wonder if the reason that the other side is "so mad" is because Walter went to the other side to take Peter. It would be crazy if that's how this whole war started.

This week's show was amazing. Looks like Abrams learned from Lost's common criticism and started giving out some answers this time.

I want to see where they go with the impending war. It'd be awesome if it started because of what Walter did, but I think it started before that as Nina said that once Bell knew of the other side and the conflict is when they started really experimenting.

I also want to see them develop some of Olivia's "powers" that they introduced from last year. If they brought back some of the tests also (the light test).

Abrams has had nothing to do with LOST since the pilot. He directed the season one finale, but that's it. It's Damon Lindelof's show.

He's an executive producer and one of the 3 creators of the show. He's still got some pull with the show but he's branched off of that. Plus, it's not like he still couldn't learn from the criticism that one of his shows got.

He's an executive producer because his production company, Bad Robot, produces the show. And he's a creator because he penned the pilot.

You'll also notice the name Jefferey Lieber on the "Created by" credit. He wrote a pilot that was never used, but because he was originally commissioned for the pilot, he's in the credits. (Lieber make 6 figures a year and has NEVER been involved with the show.)

Abrams only involvement in the show since Season 1 is co-writing the Season 3 premiere. He even talked about it on Jimmy Kimmel once.

"Early in Season 1, Abrams was busy with producing and directing Mission: Impossible III. When Damon Lindelof was considering quitting Lost due to the sudden burden, Carlton Cuse talked him out of leaving and and joined the show's staff as an executive producer.[3] From this point on, Abrams stopped being directly involved with the show."

That's from Lostpedia.

Enjoyed having this show back. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the continuing power struggle between Fringe division and everyone else. I did enjoy the ending with the CIA guy and his last line about what happened when he woke up.

It's too bad that the ratings for this show continue to fall. Its among my top shows on TV, but I don't think Thursday is the best night for it with Grey's, the Office/30 Rock, etc.

Man, my DVR didn't record it this week because it thought there was another World Series game on. That could be a reason for a big ratings drop this week. My cable company has millions of subscribers.

Thank God for NinjaVideo. ;)

Another good episode yesterday. I didn't expect the boy to be the one with the mind control power. The 2 guys cast for the car salesman were perfect for the role of a kidnapper. I'm really excited by the ending as well and to learn more about the Observer next week.

It's also good to see the ratings bump up after last week's poor performance. Hopefully we get to see that trend continue.

I called that it was the kid right away. It was a good episode, and I agree, next week should be great. I enjoy the mythology episodes a lot more than the procedural ones.

This show just continues to get better. The Observers are the perfect combination of creepy, cool, and unexplainable. I just hope Abrams continues to give answers along the way so as to not fall into the trap that Lost inevitably will have when the series wraps: too many questions that were never answered.

The one thing I'm very interested in knowing is what makes Peter and Olivia so unique (i.e. what happened to them as children).

I really liked the use of The Obeservers. I also liked the callback to Peter being from Earth-2. Broyles mentioned that his techs were unable to fire the gun because Peter fired the last shot - I think it's because Peter is from the other dimension, thus being able to use the gun.

I also wondered about Donald the Assassin. How did he get mixed up with the Observers? Did you guys also notice that the Massive Dynamic guy said there had been 26 Observer sightings, and there's been 28 episodes of Fringe?

Also, I don't know how you keep comparing Fringe and LOST. They have similar themes, but they are totally different series. Fringe is more akin to the X-Files in it's plot and execution. I'm hoping the show can avoid the downfall of the X-Files, which was trying to explain too much.

As far as LOST not answering questions, it's going to answer the important ones. As a work of art some things have to be left open to interpretation.

Been a while since anyone posted here, but after last night's episode, I figured I'd bring it back.

Last night was one of the best episodes of the season. Anna Torv had one of her best performances, really showing a different side of her character. But the fact that last night wasn't one of the standalone episodes was the best part. This season has been, for the most part, more standalone episodes than last year (at least it feels that way), and having one that discusses the overall story arc made this episode so much better.

The dynamic with Peter changes dramatically now, with Olivia knowing he's from the other side and Astrid having some suspicions from an earlier episode, he's going to have to find out soon enough. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until April 1st for the next episode (titled "Peter") to find out.

Smh @ the Thursday time slot... what the hell are they thinking? Why compete? Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday nights and it would kill.

Monday Fox has House and 24, which are set those nights - not to mention the CBS comedies are on Monday, which lead the ratings.

Tuesday you've got LOST, NCIS/NCIS Los Angeles, and American Idol/Glee combo on Fox (not moving).

Maybe Wednesday could work better, but you've got Idol again, ABC's high rating comedies, Cold Case, and CSI NY.

Fringe isn't going to kill ratings any night, so I think Fox is content to keep it against stiff competition where the low ratings aren't so much a reflection of the show, but of the competition.

Griswald
03-08-2010, 04:09 PM
Lost won't be on at the same time will it? I was thinking Tuesday nights would be best.

edit: forgot about American Idol.

I think it would kill if it didn't have shows that are already so established to compete with. People underestimate scifi.

WWOFTBBNR
03-08-2010, 05:04 PM
I don't think anyone underestimates sci-fi, it's a hard genre to sell. Even LOST, which is hugely sci-fi, was sold on a non-scifi platform and has let it's true ambitions show over a the course of the series. Aside from that, sci-fi on networks are rarely, if ever, succesful:

Dollhouse
Bionic Woman (remake)
Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles
Dark Angel
Jericho
Journeyman
Knight Rider (remake)
Roswell

These are just recent examples, and none of them lasted more than a year or 2. V and FlashForward haven't exactly set ratings on fire either. Science fiction is high concept, and asks viewers to be engaged. It's much easier to produce a reality show or a procedural cop/medical/etc that people are famliar and comfortable with. I love Fringe, but it's never going to pull in anything close to great ratings.

I wouldn't exactly say 30% of viewers is "everyone". But DVR's are growing rapidly - Nielsen says at this point in 2007 the number was only 12%.

That's why I see the current Nielsen ratings system as flawed - it doesn't take into account DVR or downloads (iTunes, Live, PSN, etc) or internet views. I know Nielsen is mainly used to determine commericial rates, but it really misses a lot now. It's an outdated system.
