What would a movie section be without one of these threads.
For me my list is almost like a living entity, always changing depending on my mood, what actor/director I'm really digging at the moment, or simply what is fresh in my memory.
I'm going to briefly explain my picks, don't feel like you have to.
Blade Runner - At this point it might be taken for granted but the influence this movie has had on flm (most notably on set production and tone of the photography) is substantial. The influences are easily seen in Fincher and Nolan's work.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest & Cool Hand Luke - Two of the greatest actors defining the anti-hero.
The Godfather - The mobster genre was nothing new when this movie was made but the movies never made with this sense of realism or character depth.
Pulp Fiction - The unconventional is possible.
Empire Strikes Back - Along with The Godfather II, the sequel all sequels are held up against. Everything you loved from the EP IV but done better (and no fuckin Ewoks).
Fellowship of the Ring - I consider this the most well done of the trilogy. Two Towers and ROTK may have had a higher level of entertainment but I think the storytelling in FOTR is some of the greatest ever.
SE7EN - It was this or Silence of the Lambs.
Bourne Ultimatum - The action genre had turned into this mundane CGI driven garbage fest, Bourne proved action could once again be exciting.
The Dark Knight - Everything clicked. Everyone on and off the camera brought their A game. The iconic rivalry between Joker and Batman was done right. All of it was capped off by Ledger's monumental performance.
The Prestige - Nolan's directing just sucks me in. Great performances all around.
Minority Report - I believe MR to be one of the best sci-fi movies post 2000 and the best thing Spielberg's done between now and Saving Private Ryan. Great use of special effects to enhance the storytelling experience, not the other way around.
Unbreakable - Love it or hate it. M Night may suck at writing but he can direct and is one of the best at creating atmosphere. Tarantino also summed it up nicely (link below)
The Matrix - Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, and Transformers. Those are some of the movies on a very small list for me personally that really had me floored with the special effects. Combine those effects with an intriguing sci-fi story, strong influences from Anime & Asian wire-fu, the neo noir atmosphere from Blade Runner and Keanu Reeves wooden acting can't even hold you down.
Terminator 2 - Near perfect action movie. Great character depth to boot.
Shawshank Redemption - Amazing storytelling. The movie has one of the most satisfying payoffs ever for the viewer.
Ocean's Eleven - Two words: simply fun.
Fight Club - Everybody knows how rewatchable, entertaining, and sharply written FC is but another reason I really like it is because I think it says a lot about society. "The things you own end up owning you." Has that ever been more true with cell phones, myspace, twitter, and facebook? I'm not saying people don't use them responsibly or that they're bad but it pisses me off when I would be in the back of a classroom with computers and no less than 50% would be social networking.
Casino - Goodfellas might be the better movie but I like the spotlight being on DeNiro.
Shaun of the Dead - Sharply written. The Wright, Frost, and Pegg trio need to make more movies. It's a spoof but so well done that it's also a great zombie movie on its own.
Stats:
3 Brad Pitt films
2 movies with Samuel L Jackson and Bruce Willis Starring
2 Fincher movies
2 Nolan movies
3 movies on Tarantino's top 20 since 1992
___________________
I love epics (Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator) but I feel they're too easy of picks.
I also love and acknowledge classics like 12 Angry Men, North By Northwest, Citizen Kane, but being 25 it's only natural I have a more contemporary taste I suppose.
Tarantino's top 20 movies since 1992 (when Pulp came out)

I usually have a real tough time establishing top 10 even top 5 movies, might be due to my short term memory, haha, but Blade runner was a sweet movie, and the game for the PC was even better.

1. Hoop Dreams
In no order...
Godfather I & II
The Departed
The Hurt Locker
Shawshank Redemption
Fight Club
Goodfellas
Boondock Saints
I can't think right now... but there are more and I know I am forgetting some.
The Matrix-Probably my favorite movie of all time. When it came out in the late 90s I was amazed at the visuals and basic idea of the story.
Goodfellas-I love mafia movies and this one is blends great story telling with an amazing cast.
The Departed-Same reasons why I love Goodfellas. Great cast, acting, and story. I think the only parts I hated were when DiCaprio is sending full texts from his dial pad phone without even looking. I cant even answer my phone without looking. Also best part of the movie is Mark Wahlberg saying "I'm the guy who does his job, you must be the other guy" lol
The Dark Knight-I've always been a Batman fan ever since I was a kid. He's my favorite comic hero. I loved how they kept him human, and of course this movie featured the best villian of all time in the Joker. Ledger's performance of the joker was the best I've seen, including Nicholason's.
Pulp Fiction-I saw this movie when I was 16-17. Hard to believe the movie is that old already. Anyways when I first saw it I was kind of confused how the story presented itself, although I loved the idea. After watching it a few times, I enjoyed the movie more. To this day I still recite a ton of lines from the movie.
Fight Club-Brad Pitt and Ed Norton. Two great actors, in a great movie with a lot of action. This movie is great in Hi-def as well. The colors they use in the movie really enhance the overall visuals. Plus when I first saw this the ending made me thing No f'n way lol. loved it.
Se7en-Great story of cat and mouse. Pitt, Morgan Freeman and Spacey do a great job in the movie. Plus I love it even more since Gweneth loses her head.
Forrest Gump-Whenever this movie is on, I watch it. I don't know what it is. I've seen it a million times but love it every time I watch it. I think this movie was a head of it's time as well when you consider how they implemented all that footage that made it look like Gump was involved in it.
List of not so serious/stupid favs:
Tommy Boy
Super Bad
Pineapple Express
Coming to America
Planes Trains and Automobiles
BTW, ironhorse I see you have casino on your list. you know this is a movie i have never seen? Lol. I have it at the house now. I plan on watching it sometime soon. I caught the beginning on tv the other day and thought, this is just like goodfellas. I have to watch it. I think what always made me not want to watch it was the length of it.

Pulp Fiction - Way ahead of its time. Will always be Tarantino's best. Launched the careers of so many great stars today.
The Dark Knight - One of the greatest achievements in modern film history. To tell the story of two fictional characters one being one of the most iconic superheroes of all time the other being one of the most iconic villains of all time, and have the movie be great on the level that it was. Truly masterful.
American Beauty - Kevin Spacey is such a great actor and this movie depicts the dysfunctional suburban family to a T.
Terminator
Gladiator
Se7en
Fight Club
There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Men
Gran Torino
Goodfellas
Training Day
Remember the Titans

Its hard to come up with a straight list so I'll just list some of my faves in different category's that haven't been named.
Action:
T2: Judgment Day ~ The best Terminator flick to date and possibly the best Arnald flick as well.
Blade Trilogy~ While Batman has come and surpassed it as the best movie based on a comic, this movie still holds a place in my mind as being atleast top 5.
Jackie Chan's First Strike ~ Check out this fight scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0JYNznbL0Q) and you'll know why it deserves to be in your top.
Legend of the Drunken Master ~ Chan enters the list again and for good reason too. Check out some of the fight scenes where he goes to his magic potion "What does a skull and crossbones mean?" "...Thats the good stuff" makes for a highly epic and entertaining movie.
Kill Bill ~ Quintin Tarintion directed it... David Caradine is in it.... Vivaca Fox dies in the first 30min. What more do you need to know?
Comedy:
Life ~ The pairing of Martin and Eddie was phenomal in this movie. Don't know how many times I've watched it, but its damn sure enough to quote parts before they happen while still laughing my ass off in the process.
Friday ~ Classic.
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka ~ Not sure if it invited the movie parody, but you would be hard pressed to tell me different. I feel sorry for the kids that missed out on this and have to live with shit like Epic/Date/Disaster Movie.
Money Talks ~ Best Chris Tucker movie ever easy. While some can argue with Friday I still say this was the better. Definitely had the one-liners rolling in bunches.
Drama:
Menace II Society ~ "What you said bout my mama?!"... Hood Classic. Still tops bar none.
Boyz In Da Hood ~ Well if I had M2S on the list I had to put this on there. Still brings up a debate amongst me and my homeboys which is the better hood classic of the two, but I still give the edge to Menace. Either way watching Cuba and Ice Cube back in their glory days was great.
Baby Boy ~ Gotta say I went into this movie not expecting much, I mean with Tyrese as the lead could you blame me?... Suffice to say that after 10min in I was hooked. Another flick I throw in from time to time for a good laugh and reminisce about living back in So Cal.
Suspense/Mystery:
Memento ~ Masterpiece. Thats all me and everyone I told after watching it could say. The way the story is told and the big ending leaves alot to the imagination. Overall though it was a great movie from beginning to end....or end to beginning.
Honorable Mentions:
Shaun of the Dead ~ I'm not much of a Zombie guy, but this movie alone turned me into one. It brought the lulz, gore, and a bit of drama as well.
Dawn of the Dead...Remake ~ Yeh I went with the remake and yeah I saw the original on tv not long ago. Maybe the fact I saw this first gives it the edge, but either way this is one of the best Zombie/Gore flicks around.
Evil Dead ~ One word.... Groovy!
Hero ~ If you are looking for a movie to test out your Surround Sound and HDTV... look no further. I can easily say this along with House of the Flying Daggers are my faves for presentation alone, but both have good action and a story to go along with it as well.
The Incredibles ~ Yeah its supposed to be a kids flick, but hell I like it. And I wish someone would argue with me why Toy Story is better when it clearly isn't. :ninja:

I love this topic and could probably go on and on about it. I'm going to try not to. You picked more than one movie that I would put on my list.
Fight Club - To this day, Fight Club is not only one of my favorite movies, but favorite books as well. I think Brad Pitt is underrated as an actor. He always puts forth a strong performance. I feel some people are stuck on his "Sexiest Man Alive" status from years past.
Bladerunner - sci fi royalty. Not much to say that hasn't been said already
I find myself liking a lot of what Christian Bale does as well. I think American Psycho is a wonderful showing of some of his talents as an actor. Equillibrium is an underrated movie as well IMO.
I hate putting recent movies on my list but District 9 was great. It is what serious sci fi movies should aspire to be.

Blade Trilogy~ While Batman has come and surpassed it as the best movie based on a comic, this movie still holds a place in my mind as being atleast top 5.
Please tell me you aren't talking about the horror that was Blade 3. Blade 2 & 1 were great with 2 being exceptional, but 3 was a really bad movie.

That's the one. It's one of my favorites, what can I say? James Cromwell as Farmer Hoggett is excellent and watching this movie always makes me feel good.

Yeah I usually just regard the first 2, not sure why I put trilogy as I agree the 3rd one was a dud.
Batman: The Movie (Adam West bitches!)
The Graduate
Seven Samurai
Snatch
Amelie
A Clockwork Orange
Psycho
Taxi Driver
no order...I could list more but I don't wanna.

Great to see some foreign films come up. Has anybody actually seen Battle Royale, the movie Tarantino put at #1?
It's interesting to say the least. They're actually making a US version which will most likely be crap. Basically as a form of control the Government selects a class of Junior High students each year and they are forced to battle each other to the death on an island. They've got collars around their neck that will detonate if they don't follow the rules. Each student is given an item/weapon to kill/survive.

If you liked The Departed and Goodfellas it's right up there. It just has that vintage Scorsese feel. It also looks fantastic in high definition. One of the last great DeNiro performances before he started collecting paychecks to do whatever script was thrown in his face. Many Scorsese movies would have made my list but I didn't want to clog up my list with too many of them.
Seven Samurai
A Clockwork Orange
Possibly the most influential film of all time.
Thats all I see Malcolm McDowell as when I watch Entourage.
Glenngary Glenn Ross
Baldwin alone makes it worth watching, and he's in it for 10 minutes maybe?

Two movies I havent seen on anyone's list yet
Sin City- It never gets old no matter how many times I watch it. Robert Rodriguez's effects along with a great story make for a great combination
Troy- I just lose History especialy the ancent greeks so to see a (realistic) movie made about the Trojan war was a real treat for me. The first time the Greeks attack Troy's walls was epic.
