This topic has always been a fun one.

Are QB scrambles cheese in Madden 10? I never even thought about it until last night I had the Panthers Delhomme run for over 50yds on me and have two TDs running.

I'm leaning toward not cheese but that experience made me think about it.

What do you guys think?

QB sprinting isnt cheese! however, if they sprint when there not under pressure and just want to get out of the pocket to wait for the reciever to get open, then that is cheese. sprinting with your QB should only be allowed if your under pressure or your actually going to run with the QB past line of scrimmage....

QB scrambles have always been cheese to me. Sim players as well as Non Sim players are all well aware of the fact that defenses do not react to QB scrambles until 10+ yds downfield. Especially when players roll the QB immediately from the pocket all the way to the sideline on a designated pass play. Just my 2cents!

I would say it depends upon the situation. I' have had people have over 6 rushing attempts with Peyton Manning against me before. I would say definite cheese on this.

However when dealing with a quarterback that has some speed and atheletic ability I find it perfectly reasonable to expect to see a COUPLE of QB scrambles during the game. Often on sundays as well you will see a QB who isn't known as a runner completely just take off and the defense is doumbfounded when it happens.

As far as sprints to the sidelines tbhere are some designed rollout plays where this is fully consistent with the play design.

I think we can all reckognize when these things are being abused and taken advantage of but to blanketly say that anytime someone scrambles with their quarterback is cheese I think misses the boat completely.

I used to be firmly in the camp of "QB scramble = cheese", but from what I've seen of this year's gameplay so far I don't really have a problem with it. I agree with B&B's comments about what types of scrambles are sim and which ones aren't.

Personally, I think there are two reasons why QB scrambles, in general, aren't cheese this year.

One is the slower gameplay and more accurate player speeds. The overall slower gameplay gives the defensive player a little more time to recognize and react to the fact that his opponent is taking off out of the pocket. Whereas in the past the QB could be 4-5 yards downfield before you even noticed it (b/c you were focused on coverage), this year he can't get as far out of the pocket before you have a chance to pick up on it.

The other big factor is that unless you have a running QB his speed rating is going to be low enough that you should be able to contain him pretty effectively by simply switching to the closest LB or DB, who should be significantly faster, and running him down.

The other big factor that applies in franchise modes is the risk of injury. Maybe its just me, but there seems to be a lot more realistic injury model this year. A fair percentage of the time when I hit stick someone (get the screen shake) with one of my high hit power rated LB's or SS they get injured, at least temporarily, and have to leave the game for at least a few play, if not longer. You can believe that anytime I get a chance to make a hit stick hit on a QB I'm going to take it. Personally, I wouldn't want to risk the ruptured spleen :)

I agree with Enderz... cheese should be defined as exploiting the AI... a scramble here or there because you are running for your life is perfectly ok.
