YOUNG SHINES AS RUTGERS BLOWS OUT #24 FRESNO STATE

Rutgers opened the season at home as the underdogs to the number 24 ranked Fresno State Bulldogs.

1st Quarter:
-Rutgers struck quickly as Kordell Young took a pitch 68 yards untouched for a touchdown on the first play of the game.
- Fresno State had a nice drive going but after an incomplete pass on 3rd down, a 56 yard field goal was missed wide right by Goessling
- Rutgers' offense took the field and took advantage of the great field position. Young broke free again but was dragged down after picking up 21 yards. 2 plays later Senior Quarterback Mike Teel found Young for a 25 yard TD pass.
- After a Fresno State 3 and out and a nice return by Tiquan Underwood, Kordell Young picked up where he left off breaking another big run for 36 yards and taking the ball in for the score from 5 yards out a few plays later

Rutgers led 21-0 after one

2nd Quarter:
- Fresno State managed to drive down to the 25 but Junior Middle LB Ryan D'Imperio intercepted an errandt pass from Drandstater
- Teel hit 3 passes for 20+ yards to set up yet another Kordell Young TD run, this time from just 1 yard out.
- Fresno State couldn't sustain their drive and were forced to punt to Underwood who returned it 61 yards setting up an 18 yard TD run from Young.

Rutgers led at the half 35-0.
Kordell Young had 13 rushing attempts for 177 yards and 4 tds and 1 catch for 24 yards and 1 td at the half

Rutgers managed 311 yards of total offense vs 121 and an interception for Fresno State

3rd Quarter:
- More of the same. Fresno State missed a FG and 5 plays later Teel found Underwood for a 28 yard TD
- After a punt, Young busted loose once again for a 58 yard TD run

4th Quarter:
- Fresno State finally gets on the board with a 3 yard TD pass from Brandstater to Pascoe.
- Failed onside kick leads to another TD run from Young
- Fresno State with their 2nd TD of the day this time with an 8 yard pass to West but it's too little too late as Teel hits Campbell a few plays later for a TD

Rutgers Wins 63-14

Teel finished 8-12 for 202 yards and 3 TDs
Brandstater finished 30-34 with 268 yards but just 2 TDs and 1 Interception

Rutgers- 540 yrds total offense and 662 total yards
Fresno State- 350 yrds total offense and 637 total yards.

Player of the Game:
Who else but Kordell Young. The Redshirt Sophomore set 2 school records with 346 Yards running on 29 attempts and 6 rushing TDs. 11.9 yards per carry average. 6 runs of 20+ yards. The young RB ran for a TD on the first play of the game. Also caught a TD pass.

RAY WHO?

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/netsgiantsfan247/340x.jpg

Coming into the season the big question facing the Scarlet Knights was who, if anybody, will step up and fill the void left by Ray Rice? Rice was the leader of a Rutgers team which went from a joke at the start of his freshman year to respected throughout the country by the end of his college career. He is viewed by many as one of the greatest players ever to wear a Scarlet Knights uniform. After a great career, he was selected in the 2nd round of the NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens.

Rice moving on to the NFL left a gaping hole in the Scarlet Knight offense. Many people questioned if Coach Schiano would be able to get solid production from the running back spot this season as none of his Halfbacks have much experience. After the first week of the season however, it looks like Rutgers has found their answer, Kordell Young.

Throughout spring and summer practices, Sophomores Kordell Young and Mason Robinson battled for the starting position and Young won the spot. On the first play of the first game of the season against #24 Fresno State, Kordell Young took a pitch and bolted downfield 68 yards for a touchdown. He didn't stop there, actually he didn't stop until the end of the game. Young ran for 346, breaking Ray Rice's record of 280 yards. He also set the school rushing TD record with 6.

The 5'9, 185 Young uses speed and agility to break away from the defense and with Schiano at the reigns, look for Young to have an amazing season. Don't be surprised to see Young up their in the Heisman voting by the end of the season. The young back has New Brunswick buzzing, "Ray Who?"

UNC NO MATCH FOR RUTGERS IN JERSEY

RUTGERS: 63
NORTH CAROLINA: 3

Rutgers blew out North Carolina 63-3 in the pouring rain in Piscataway. UNC could do nothing right. Sophomore quarterback TJ Yates went 18-27 but threw 4 interceptions, 2 of which were thrown within the 5 and were returned for touchdowns. Just when it looked like something good may happen for the Tar Heels, something went wrong. In scoring range UNC missed 2 field goals and threw 2 interceptions.

Rutgers on the other hand could not be stopped. The star of the game was once again Sophomore sensation Kordell Young who finished the game with 311 yards and 7 rushing TDs. He also caught 3 passes for 37 yards. Teel finished 9-16 with 126 yards. Senior cornerback Jason McCourty had a great game with 5 tackles and 2 interceptions, one of which he returned 95 yards for a touchdown.

Player of the game- Kordell Young: 311 rushing yards with 7 rushing TDs. 3 catches for 37 yards.

NAVY KEEPS IT RESPECTABLE AGAINST RUTGERS.. FOR A HALF

RUTGERS: 70
NAVY: 21

Recap:
The seemingly unstoppable Scarlet Knights blew out their 3rd straight opponent, Navy, 70-21 in Annapolis. The Midshipmen kept it close for longer than expected. Kordell Young got to work early scoring twice within the first 4 minutes of the game, first on a carry from the goal line and then on a long 58 yard run. However, Navy answered back with a 66 yard TD run by Kaheaku-Enhad after Courtney Greene went for the big hit instead of wrapping up the runner. On the ensuing Scarlet Knight possesion, backup quarterback Jabu Lovelace scrambled and fumbled the ball after being hit. It was scooped up by big defensive end Matt Nechak and returned 67 yards for the score. After 1, the score was knotted up at 14.

In the 2nd quarter, Teel found Underwood for a 31 yard TD strike. Navy answered back once again with a 49 yard TD run by Kettani to tie the game at 21. However, that was the last of Navy's points while Rutgers was just getting started. Young ran for 2 more TDs in the half and in the 2nd half he ran for another 2 touchdowns and caught one. Navy had no answer for the early season heisman hopeful.

Stats:
Kordell Young once again carried the load for the Rutgers offense as he rushed for 302 yards and 6 tds. He also caught 4 passes one of which was a great diving catch in the end zone for a score. Teel had another efficient day going 13-22 for 239 yards and 3 TDs.

Navy was lead by QB Kaipo-Noa Kaheak-Enhad (say that 5 times fast). He went 8-15 for 64 yards but also rushed for 97 yards and a TD. Halfback Shun White was limited by the Rutgers defense as he only managed to gain 40 yards on 13 carries.

Player of the Game: Kordell Young- 302 rushing yards. 6 rushing TDs. 4 catches. 1 recieving TD

RUTGERS DESTROYS FCS SOUTHEAST, BUT HEISMAN HOPEFUL GOES DOWN

RUTGERS: 93
FCS: 0

Not much to say about this one. Kordell Young ran for 224 yards and 6 TDs on 10 attempts in not even 2 quarters but was tackled into the endzone awkwardly on his 6th TD and hurt his knee. He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. Mason Robinson came in and tore up the field. (Not going to post stats for him because they were too rediculous but he had A LOT of yards.) FCS Southeast literally asked Robinson to score on just about every play as they left half of the field open everytime he touched the ball. He finished with 7 TDs. Mike Teel only threw 3 passes. One for a 24 yard TD. There was really no reason for Rutgers to throw the ball at all.

FCS Southeast did nothing right. Rutgers came away with 8 interceptions and blocked a punt in the end zone for a safety. In the 2nd half, Rutgers players started running backwards and going out of bounds instead of scoring. Rutgers moves to 4-0 heading into their huge matchup against West Virginia. Robinson is going to have to have another spectacular game if Rutgers is going to upset the Mountaineers.

RUTGERS PASSES FIRST TEST OF THE SEASON AS THEY BLOW OUT #4 WEST VIRGINIA

RUTGERS: 56
WEST VIRGINIA: 10

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/netsgiantsfan247/78534557.jpg

West Virginia came into the game 4-0 and ranked 4th in the nation. Rutgers came into the game 4-0 and unranked. That should all change after today. Rutgers pounded WVU 56-10 on national television to show the country that the State University of New Jersey is capable of playing with the best teams in the NCAA.

In the first quarter, Rutgers took the lead on a Robinson TD from 1 yard out, but West Virginia responded with a Pat White QB sneak from 1 yard out to tie it up. After a turnover, WVU took the lead on a 45 yard FG.. their last points of the day. Jabu Lovelace made a great play on Rutgers next possesion. As he was being dragged down on an option, he managed to pitch the ball to Robinson who took it the rest of the way for a 72 yard score. It was all downhill for the Mountaineers from there as they were unable to stop Robinson and WVU's 2 main threats, Pat White and speedster Noel Devine, were limited by the RU defense. White threw 3 picks, 1 was returned for a TD.

After losing Kordell Young for 4 weeks to injury last week, nobody knew what to expect out of Rutgers' offense. Young was a huge part of their gameplan and he was on pace for a record breaking season as well as being an early Heisman favorite. Insert Mason Robinson, 5'10 180 pound sophomore running back. Robinson got the start against the Mountaineers and erupted for 280 yards and 5 touchdowns. Schiano is going to have to make a tough choice when Young returns if Robinson can keep playing at this level.

The only downside for Rutgers is that the victory came at a price. All-American Safety Courtney Greene was lost for the season with a broken collarbone and Safety Glen Lee was lost for 4 weeks with an abdominal tear. Teams should look to throw deep for the next few games against Rutgers to test their backup defensive backs.

Stats:
Teel- 11/18 for 166 yrds, 2 TDs, 2 INTs
Robinson- 280 yards and 5 TDs
Underwood- 7 catches for 107 yards and 2 TDs
Devin McCourty- 6 tackles, 3 interceptions, 107 into return yards, 1 TD

Pat White- 18/27, 0 TDs, 3 INTs. 56 yards rushing. 1 rushing TD
Noel Devine- 90 rushing yards for 0 TDs

I just run the ball a lot, thats the way i play. i dont run the option every play, maybe 4-5 times a game which isnt rediculous at all and it doesnt always go for a TD. I run toss or iso way more than option. My RBs usually end up with about 25-30 carries a game, i throw it usually about 15 times a game. I dont know what your problem is with me but i dont see you posting stuff like this in anyone elses threads.

Yeah I do the same thing with Clemson spiltting time between Spiller and Davis, because they're good. I don't pass the ball that often, therefore= big RB stats. I don't really see the problem here.

The last-second pitch happens all the time in real life and in the videogame. wtf? Like he said, it's not his only play-he just runs more than he passes. Lastly, and this is sort of a weak point, it's not cheese if it's not against another human being.

RUTGERS BEATS CINCINNATI IN SHOOTOUT

RUTGERS: 72
CINCINNATI: 46

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/netsgiantsfan247/tiquan.jpg

The Cincinnati Bearcats proved to be Rutgers toughest opponent so far this season, but they couldn't keep up with the Scarlet Knight offense. Rutgers jumped out early 21-0 in the first quarter after 3 Mason Robinson TD runs, but the Bearcats fought back in the 2nd quarter to cut the lead to 7 with 1:40 remaining in the half. However, Rutgers scored twice to close out the half and lead 42-21 after 2. In the 2nd half the teams continued to trade scores but the Bearcats just didn't have enough firepower to keep up with the Scarlet Knights. Robinson had another great game and Underwood and Britt also put up huge numbers. Rutgers improves to 6-0 on the season.

Stats:
Teel- 8/13 for 216 yards, 3 TDs, 1 Int
Robinson- 250 yards for 6 TDs
Underwood- 43 recieving yard for 1 TD, 178 KR yards for 1 TD, 96 PR yards
Britt- 143 recieving yards and 1 TD
Devin and Jason McCourty- 1 INT each.

Grutza- 30/42 for 383 yards, 4 TDs, 2 Ints
Goodman- 144 recieving yards, 1 td, 2 rushes for 5 yards and 1 TD
Barnett- 116 recieving yards, 2 TDs
Tolbert- 7 tackles, 1 fumble return for a TD

Player of the Game- Mason Robinson had another great game starting for injured Kordell Young. Had 250 rushing yards for 6 TDs. Broke the Rutgers single season rushing record.

UCONN PUTS UP A FIGHT BUT RUTGERS PUTS THEM AWAY LATE

RUTGERS: 49
UCONN: 37

In the closest game of the season so far for the Scarlet Knights, Rutgers beat the UConn Huskies by 12. This one went back and forth until the end. Rutgers went ahead early and at the half lead 28-17, but UConn faught back late in the game and cut the score to 5 with under a minute remaining. They couldn't recover the onside kick however and Mason Robinson broke free for a score to put away the game.

For the second straight week, Tiquan Underwood returned a kickoff for a TD, this time for 99 yards. He also had 2 catches 1 for a TD. Kenny Britt had a TD catch as well. Teel was 5/6 for 2 TDs and 1 INT. Mason Robinson continued to carr the load for the Rutgers offense. He carried the ball 33 times for 190 yards and 3 TDs, including one for 63 yards on Rutgers first play with the ball. Kordell Young returns next week and it will be interesting to see how Schiano deals with the RB situation. Robinson has had a great year, but guys shouldn't lose their starting job to injury and Young was on track for a Heisman type year before getting hurt.

Lorenzen- 29/42, 361 yrds, 4 TDs, 3 INTs

RUTGERS- 49
PITT- 28

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/netsgiantsfan247/underwood-md.jpg

Kordell Young returned to action against Pitt and looked like he did before his injury. He racked up 133 rushing yards on 18 attempts and scored 1 TD. However, in the 2nd half he was hit low and taken out of the game. He has a sprained MCL and will miss 3 more weeks. Its been a long season for the early season heisman hopeful. After looking like the next Ray Rice in the beginning of the season, he has been battling injuries while Mason Robinson has shown the ability to do just as much, if not more damage than Young. Robinson came in after Young went down and ran for 102 yards and 1 TD.

Pitt kept it competitive in the first half but in the 2nd half, Rutgers pulled away and scored everytime the touched the ball.

Teel- 7/11 for 168 yards, 3 tds, 2 ints
Young- 133 yards, 1 TD
Robinson- 102 yards, 1 TD
Underwood- 5 catches, 95 yards, 2 TDs
Britt- 1 catch, 53 yards, 1 TD
Lefeged- 3 INTs
Jason McCourty- 1 INT, 103 INT return yards, 1 TD

Bostick- 3/4, 72 yards. Tore shoulder in 1st quarter and will miss 11 weeks

RUTGERS: 49
SYRACUSE: 0

Rutgers shut out the Orange 49-0 to improve to 9-0 on the season. Its been a tough season for Syracuse who dropped to 2-7 with the loss. Mason Robinson ran for 335 yards and 3 TDs and Mike Teel threw for 4 TDs. Syracuse couldn't get anything at all going on offense and didn't even get into field goal range once during the game. Rutgers is looking for a National Title shot and they may jump into the top 10 after this win. Next week will be a huge matchup against South Florida, the last tough matchup of the season for the Scarlet Knights. If Rutgers can beat the Bulls, they should be able to go undefeated on the season and have a legitimate chance at the national championship.
