With the Dynasty less than a week away; here is a quick rundown of the University of Clemson Tigers Football team before AzureEffect. You will be able to track the progression, leaders, accomplishments & recruiting done in this thread. Good luck to the other Dynasty owners and let the games begin!
2008 Clemson Tigers Football Preview
2007 Clemson Record: (9-4, 5-3 ACC)
2007 Bowl: Chick-fil-A Bowl vs. Auburn (L 20-23)
Clemson Head Coach: Tommy Bowden (69-42 at Clemson, 87-46 overall)
Offensive Coordinator: Rob Spence
Defensive Coordinator: Vic Koenning
Returning Leaders for Clemson:
Rushing: James Davis, RB, 1,101 yards
Passing: Cullen Harper, QB, 2,991 yards
Receiving: Aaron Kelly, WR, 1,081 yards
Tackles: Michael Hamlin, S, 97
Sacks: Ricky Sapp, DE, 5.0
Interceptions: Chris Chancellor, CB, 2; Michael Hamlin, S, 2
Other Key Returnees: CB Crezdon Butler, S Chris Clemons, WR Tyler Grisham, DT Rashaad Jackson, DT Dorrell Scott, RB C.J. Spiller, LB Cortney Vincent
Key Losses: LB Tramaine Billie, G Chris McDuffie, DE Philip Merling, OT Barry Richardson, LB Nick Watkins
Clemson's Strengths:
James Davis and C.J. Spiller are arguably the best tailback tandem in the nation. Davis eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark for the second straight season and will once again lead the way. Spiller could handle the load on his own, but instead compliments Davis extremely well. On the defensive side of the ball, the Tigers return eight starters to a team that only gave up 18.7 points per game and 306.8 yards per game. The pass defense was amazing last year and corners Crezdon Butler and Chris Chancellor and safeties Chris Clemons and Michael Hamlin are all back to claim their starting positions
Clemson's Weaknesses
Quarterback Cullen Harper had a great debut campaign, throwing for 2,991 yards, 27 touchdowns and just six interceptions. The problem with the offense was the line which allowed a whole lot of sacks. The fact that Harper, and the running backs for that matter, still had a great year despite all the pressure bodes well for the team, but the line will have to get better if Clemson wants to win the ACC. The Tigers lost four of the five starting offensive lineman, including All-Americans Barry Richardson and Chris McDuffie. Center Thomas Austin is the lone returning starter and players like Barry Humphries and Bobby Hutchinson have to be ready to step into a full time starting role.
The Bottom Line for the Tigers:
When Philip Merling left early for the NFL, it hurt the defensive line, but freshman DaQuan Bowers should fit in nicely. Most had Bowers ranked as one of the top prospects in the 2008 class and he could end up starting right away. The offense has a ton of playmakers and as long as the line can hold up, receivers Tyler Grisham, Aaron Kelly and Jacoby Ford will find the endzone just as much as Davis and Spiller.

In the first game of the season the Clemson Tigers showed the country that they are not to be taken lightly with a 38 point convincing win over then ranked #22 Alabama. The Game started off rocky for Alabama QB John Parker Wilson as he threw an Interception for a TD on his first pass and seemed to never recover.
Clemson was also aided in the win by the play of WR/KR Jacoby Ford who electrified his team and the crowd with two returns for TDs (1 KR, 1 PR)
http://www.mymaddenpad.com/video/276.php<-----Here is the PR for TD
On Offense the Tigers Cullen Harper passed for 142 yards and 2 TDs with a 78% Completion percentage
James Davis rushed for 79 yards on 19 attempts and 1 TD before going down with an injury (Out 5 Weeks)
C.J. Spiller also chipped in with 50 yards on 8 attempts and 2 TDs
The Tigers Defense also held stiff; holding Alabama to just 24 Rushing yards the entire game. Led by the Tackling of All-American DB Michael Hamlin ( 9 Tackles, 1 INT)
DB C. Clemons (7 Tackles, 3 TFL, 1 Int) DE R. Sapp (5 Tackles, 4 TFL)
Player of the game: #6 WR Jacoby Ford 2 returns for 114 KR yards 1 TD, 4 returns for 184 PR yards, 1 TD

The Clemson Tigers are BACK and in Grand Fashion!!! Putting a Scoreboard breaking 147 points on the Board against a FCS Southeast team that just was not up to the task.
C.J. Spiller GOES OFF with 15 carries for 564 yards & 11 TDs....showing that he is more than ready & willing to carry the load for the Tigers while James Davis recovers from his injury. Watch here are he TERRORIZES FCS Southeast's Defense http://www.mymaddenpad.com/video/301.php
Jacoby Ford also ripped FCS with 9 PR for 417 yards & 4 TDs
FCS Southeast turned the ball over 7 times and 5 of those times were Clemson TDs
The score got ugly midway through the first Quarter as C.J. Spiller's first two carries went for TDs; even subbing the 2nd string did not help as Clemson rolled on to Victory and put 147 points on the board while doing so. The Tigers have shown to be tough early in the season but it must continue if their hopes for a National Championship are to remain alive. The Tigers have moved up to the #10 ranking
Players of the game: C.J. Spiller 15 carries- 564 yards-11 TDs
J. Ford 9 PR-417 yards- 4 TDs

Like I stated before in the "scores" thread...I actually pulled up against FCS; I probably could've hung 2 Benjamin Franklins on the board. I pulled up even harder this week as you will see in my recap coming where I actually saved replays of me running out of bounds as to keep the score down.

The University of Clemson Tigers continued their quest for a National Championship last week by going on to beat NC State pretty handily. Early in the season, the Tigers run game has proved to be dominant all while the Defense is holding up their end of the bargain also. With tougher opponents ahead, Clemson must maintain and even elevate their level of play to be considered a top-tier team. Currently ranked the #10 team in the Nation because of the play of the special RB C.J. Spiller. Spiller leads the Nation in rushing with 767 yards and 14 TDs to this point and is serious contention early for the Heisman trophy. Opponents have had a very hard time containing Spiller's agility on the outside and his tenacity inside. The backfield will receive a shake up in two weeks when James Davis returns to action from his injury. Coach Bowden had this to say "...we definitely are not lacking production from that position and we would hate to slow Spiller down as he is really tearing up the field and on a bit of a hotstreak but Davis will return to action and we will work him back in slowly". Stay tuned for the developing saga but one thing is for sure; the Clemson Tigers of 2008 can definitely tote the rock!
Key Stats vs NC State
Clemson RB C.J. Spiller 16 carries for 153 yds 1 TD
3 Clemson DBs recorded TDs C.Butler, C.Chancellor, B. Maxwell
Clemson QB C.Harper passed for 2 TDs on 5 for 7 passing
Backup QB W. Korn went 3 for 6 passing 1 TD
Player of the Game J. Ford 2 PR for 127 yds 1 TD

Clemson vs. FCS GAME 2
"Defense wins Championships...but Offense that beats Defense wins multiple Championships..." Coach Bowden was obviously pleased with his teams performance against FCS but knows by no means is the journey done. "We have to continue to raise our level of play each week no matter who we are facing..." My guess is that Clemson took FCS scoring on them the first game personally as the Tigers went on to shut out FCS 77-0 in their second meeting. The 2nd team Offense/Defense got extensive work as the Tigers displayed dominance and near perfection on the field. A. Ellington showed that he was capable of getting the job done next year when James Davis leaves as he broke off good runs. Two Clemson RBs combined for 552 yards Rushing & 7 TDs. James Davis was suited up but stood on the sideline with no pads under his jersey as the team captain is still recovering from his torn shoulder. He could see action in a couple weeks as after the Clemson vs. Maryland game; the Tigers have a bye week. Nothing more to be said about the win against FCS but here are some key stats and highlights from the win. The Tigers are now ranked #8 team in the Nation Next up: MARYLAND
Player(s) of the Game: C.J. Spiller & Andre Ellington 552 rushing yards & TDs
Key Stats:
W. Korn 12 for 16 204 yards 3 TDs 1 int
A. Ellington 30 carries 299 yards 3 TDsC.J. Spiller 8 carries 253 yards 4 TDs
J. Ford 2 rec. 104 yards 2 TDs

"...We're headed in the right direction but still have room to improve" Coach Bowden said of his teams' 52-10 win on Saturday. "I was pleased to see Cullen (Harper) play more than 2 series and I thought he performed well and put the ball in some tight spaces against the Terps' Defense....C.J. ran the ball well also because Maryland played him well and tackled exceptionally"
Coach Bowden when asked about the play of WR/PR J.Ford:
"You know he's in the Heisman race and that right there speaks for itself; he single-handedly can change the complexion of a ball-game with his punt return skills...and that play last week where he outran the Defense and tracked down the deep ball for a score was impressive. He's certainly emerging and doing great things for us this year....and I hope he plans to contribute next year!! (smiles & laughs)
...The Clemson Tigers took another step forward Saturday as the beat the Maryland Terapins by a score of 52-10 and subsequently moved up in the rankings as TWO top ten teams suffered loses: Georgia & West Virginia. Tigers QB Cullen Harper played extensively for the first time this season as it took Clemson longer than they probably expected to put Maryland away. J. Ford continues to impress with his play at Punt Returner but his contribution to the passing game of late is what adds to his Heisman candidacy. The Tigers Defense continues to play well as 5 different lineman registered 1 sack and C. Clemons & All American M. Hamlin led the team with 10 tackles a piece.
Bottom Line: Clemson is starting to put all three phases of the game together and when they are all functioning efficiently; I don't see a team in College Football that can stop them. The Tigers are now ranked # 6 team in the Nation
Key Stats:
C. Harper 12 for 13 208 yds 3 TDs 1 int
C.J. Spiller 28 carries 177 yds 2 TDs
J. Ford 284 All-purpose yards 3 TDs; 130 yds Receiving 2 TDs & 154 yds on 5 Punt Returns 1 TD

In Recruiting News; the Clemson Tigers are trying to solidify themselves as one of the top Programs in the Nation as they have recently had 3 very good High School Players to Committ to Clemson:
http://th282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/vicariousmind43/th_Irons.jpg
#1 Recruit & #1 rated RB in the Nation
***** Recruit Jared Williams
Measurables: 6'ft 1in. 219lbs
Time in 40 yd Dash: 4.18
Bench Press: 319 lbs
Squat: 645 lbs
Awarness rating: A+
The run-down: The Tigers are not looking to rebuild but rather to RELOAD when it comes to Running Backs. With consideration that James Davis will be leaving for the NFL (as it is his senior year anyway) & could lose Spiller to the Draft should he win the Heisman the Tigers have landed the #1 Recruit in the Nation in Jared Williams. A quick & explosive runner that shows great elusiveness as well as power when finishing off runs.
Recruit Grade: A+
http://th155.photobucket.com/albums/s316/demetrius_057/th_1458479fvyhfwddehhyhjjyrigy.jpg
#492 in the Nation & #55 rated RB
*** Star Recruit Jermaine Davidson
Measurables: 5ft 11in 215lbs
Time in 40 yd dash: 4.35
Bench Press: 326 lbs
Squat: 470 lbs
Awareness Rating: B
The Run down: Coach Bowden must really believe in the saying "You can never have enough people to run the ball". The Tigers have landed another RB Committ in Jermaine Davidson; a swift and powerful runner for his size. Coach Bowden must've been shaken when James Davis went down and knows all too well that RB injuries happen too often to rely on just 1 running back. Davidson is a solid runner and should compliment well in the future with recruit Jared Williams. With 4.35 speed and impressive strength; it might be a Lightning & Lightning backfield in years to come.
Recruit Grade: B-
http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:zYX3vhxoE3Q0JM:http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/15/158746.jpg
#389 in Nation & #53 WR in Nation
*** Star Recruit Brian Washington
Measurables: 6ft 0in 191lbs.
Time in 40 yd dash: 4.31
Bench: 193 lbs
]Squat: 290 lbs
Awareness rating: A-
The Run down: The Tigers must be thinking Jacoby Ford with this recruit because although Washington is no Malcolm Kelly or David Boston when it comes to strength; the kid sure can fly and J. Ford has been making plays all over the field for the Tigers this season. Washington is 6ft and can run like the wind and has excellent field awarness. Judging by his size though I can tell that he is not going to be the "go-to" receiver but rather a compliment guy/ slot guy (which is fine if he will put up J.Ford numbers)
Recruit Grade: C++/B- (Only because he is a compliment guy but otherwise...solid but not stellar recruit

Thursday Night Lights!!!
...Well the Clemson Tigers resumed their quest for the National Championship on Thursday night by embarrassing a Wake Forest Squad who is yet to win a game by a score of 72-0. Obviously, scoring on the Clemson Tigers Defense is something that has been considered "offensive" as the Tigers shut out their second consecutive opponent. All American Safety Michael Hamlin had this to say"...We take pride in our Defense and believing that we are one of the best in the nation....We DONT LIKE TO BE SCORED on and when we can come out and make plays like we did tonight; it feels real good. HI MA!" C.J. Spiller continued to burn up the field with his performance as well as Jacoby Ford...returning his 8th punt this season for a TD. The Tigers Defense was the story of the night though; with 6 different Clemson defensive players recording interceptions: J. Campbell, M. Hamlin, C. Vincent, S. Cooper, S. Adams. X. Dye & M. Hamlin both Forced Fumbles. R. Taylor, M. Hamlin, S.Cooper all scored Defensive TDs. In one of the wackiest plays of the season Linebacker C. Vincent lateraled to M. Hamlin for the score. Hamlin had this to say about the play"...We were inspired by the USF TD lateral and we tried to top it (laughs)...I didn't even know he was going to pitch the ball because he looked like he was going down when ol boy jumped on his shoulder. It worked out though...He needs to work on his passing skills though...Did you see it. He tried to set me up for the kill!!...He threw it where there was a CROWD!!(laughs). It worked out though" Indeed it did The Clemson Tigers are now the #4 Ranked team in the Nation
Player of the Game: C. J. Spiller 26 Carries 183 yds 4 TDs & The Clemson Defense

The University of Clemson Tigers defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets last week by a Final Score of 80-7
There were no significant plays made in this game so we do not have any particularly awesome highlights to show. However, Senior RB James Davis made his comeback in this game and looked a little rusty as he has missed significant time but nontheless he was able to get into the EndZone. C.J. Spiller continued his dominance by scoring 6 rushing TDs on his way to over 200 yards.
Coach Bowden had this to say about Davis' comeback "...I aksed him if he thought he could give it a go this week and he had a solid week in practice, so I decided to let him see some live bullets. For the most part I was impressed because recovering from a torn shoulder is no joke and a couple defenders pulled him down on that shoulder and he bounced right back up"
Coach Bowden on CJ Spiller "He's shown the Nation that he IS the elite back in College Football; in the past he's split time with James (Davis) and was effective as a change of pace...but he has shown he IS the pace...(pauses)..He's proved to be both Thunder & Lightning when James went out; and I'm impressed"
The Tigers are now ranked #3/#4 team in the Nation. Arizona State (Nix) is ahead in the BCS Polls while Clemson is ahead in the Coaches Poll...even garnering (1) First Place vote. The Tigers continue to steamroll towards a Bowl Game and Possible Championsip. The team has a Bye week next week before a Big Match up with #15 ranked Boston College squad.
Here are some key stats from the Georgia Tech win:

The University of Clemson Tigers defeated the Boston College Eagles by the score of 38 to 10, in a game that was played very closely in the first two quarters. C.J. Spiller got the start and James Davis came in to spell him effectively. This Running Back duo was poised to be the best 1,2 combo in the Nation until Davis went out with a torn shoulder but CJ Spiller proved his shoulders are quite worthy & willing to carry the load.
C.J. Spiller has run for 1,983 yds and scored 36 TD's; true Heisman hopes could be fulfilled at season's end. Spiller is even eyeing Barry Sanders single season rushing record. Stay tuned for what happens in the coming weeks but Spiller is truly worthy of the "spill" and will be the standard by which the incoming Freshman will have to judge themselves by.
Stats from the Boston College win:
Passing:
C. Harper 5 for 7 88 yds 2 TDs 1 int
Rushing:
J. Davis 15 carries 187 yds 2 TDs
CJ Spiller 14 carries 168 yds 2 TDs

....Marching right along to their own beat, the Clemson Tigers have yet again disposed of another Top 25 team. The Tigers went into Doak-Campbell Stadium (with a very hostile Seminole crowd on hand) and came out with an impressive win. Heisman candidate C.J. Spiller had this offering "...this was by far the loudest stadium we played in this season besides Death Valley of course, but their fans really showed up in support and made it difficult to hear...so....We had to SHUT THEM UP (laughs)!!"
The #3 ranked Tigers continued their march towards the National Championship by beating Florida State by a score of 38-10. Heisman candidate C.J. Spiller lead the way with 210 yards & 4 TDs.
Although Spiller stole the show; it was the Defense that should've been commended because they held Florida State and their All-American RB Antoine Smith under 75 yards for the game with hits like these:
http://www.easportsworld.com/en_US/video/290969
The Passing game picked it up as Cullen Harper passed for 181 yards in the contest, much more than what was going on in previous weeks
Harper had this to say about the increase in the passing attack " We wanted to show that Nation that...yeah..we lead the Nation in Rushing Offense but you HAVE to respect the passing game as well. We are just a well rounded Offense and it showed up tonight"
The Tigers have a (2-6) Duke team coming to Death Valley next week...so unless they have an Appalachian State moment; we will bring you the stats from the contest.
Stats from the win:
Passing:
C.Harper 17 for 19 181 yards 1 TD
Rushing:
C.J. Spiller 34 carries 210 yards 4 TDs

The Clemson Tigers Recruiting Update:
The Tigers have landed ANOTHER RB...which leads me to believe that Bowden believes that Spiller might be going Pro should he win the Heisman.
The Tigers have A.Ellington who has shown this season that he can come in and do well but I guess you never stop preparing for the future and RB is a position that takes one hell of a beating.

The Run Down: I REALLY like this signing by the Tigers, although they will have a VERY crowded Backfield next year; competition brings out the best in people and whoever is the true choice will show & prove. I am anxious to see how each one of them pans out and who emerges from this pack. USC has a crowded backfield filled with talent so there's no reason why Clemson cannot do the same and still be productive.
I will edit this post tomorrow with exclusive insider content on each recruit signed thus far for the Tigers.....STAY TUNED!!

Thanks...I appreciate that...I thought it would be interesting and help submerge the people who read my Dynasty thread to actually see my recruits in action and see pictures of them (theoretically speaking). So, when the actually come on campus...it will be like you got to see them before they actually touch the College gridiron....I'll be doing this for every committ I get and compiling them into a recruiting file on mymaddenpad.com (hopefully)...since EASportsWorld only holds 5 videos

The Clemson Tigers defeated the Duke Blue Devils by a score of 74-10. The First Team Offense/ Defense only played 1 half as so they will be rested for the push for the National Championship. When Coach Bowden was asked could this strategy backfire he quipped with the following
"...Who asked that question...I figured that would come up! Honestly, I don't think it will hurt us because if you go up on a team by that much you run the risk of getting one of your key players hurt in a game that is already won. I believe that the guys in that locker room understand that if this were a Bowl/Championship game that they would be out there for the duration...so..NO! I do not think it will backfire...What people fail to realize is that our 2nd Unit is gaining more experience each game the starters come out and that will help our team going into the next couple of years....Put that in your pipe and smoke it"
C.J. Spiller, who now has over 2,000 rushing yards had this to say about approaching Barry Sanders single season Collegiate rushing record
"I'm not going to sit up here and lie...I want it; the Rutgers Running Back is ahead of me but I have 1 more TD to go to break his TD record in one season but to have BOTH records would mean even more."
C.J. when asked if he is upset when Coach Bowden pulls the First Team Offense
"Although I understand why he does it...It does get to me a little bit because as a competitor; I want to be out there as much as possible. With the amount of games we have left...I am going to try to run for at least 250 yards a game before he pulls us out again....We still have the annual South Carolina Rivalry game to go and it would be even sweeter to break the record against them...."
I think the folks in Gamecock Land heard it and will be waiting to dismantle his hopes.

C.Harper 8 for 9 83 yds 1 TD

A Scouting Video of J. Peterson....watch his Velocity on the CB Blitz
The Run Down: John Peterson is a very solid recruit and should fit right in the Clemson secondary. He even played a little receiver in his high school days. He shows very good hips and a fluid backpedal. Very aggressive at the point of attack and does not back down when it comes to tackling in the open field.
Recruit Grade: A-
CB Bo Rogers
4-Star Recruit *****

A Scouting video of B. Rogers; pick 6!
The Run Down: Bo Rogers is a very good athlete who will be a nice compliment to John Peterson in the Clemson secondary for years to come. While not as aggressive as John Peterson, Rogers is very elusive and good at jumping routes and making plays once he gets the ball in his hands. Another solid recruit for Clemson!

...On a frozen surface the Tigers of Clemson heated up the night by beating the Virginia Cavaliers by a score of 48-10. This game was a momentous occassion and ticket holders should frame their stubs because Clemson RB C.J. Spiller broke Barry Sanders single season record for TDs in a season (36) by scoring 3 rushing TDs and solifying his Heisman candidacy. This is no doubt, one of the most impressive seasons by a running back that we have seen in a lonnnnnng time.

...The Clemson Tigers could have stayed in the locker room at Death Valley and still won this game handily. The "Battle of the Palmetto State" was not much of a battle as the Tigers rolled to a 62-3 victory. I expected a lot more out of the Gamecocks but they did not deliver. The very first play of the game was a M.Hamlin INT for a TD as the Tigers jumped out early on the Gamecocks and kept their foot on the pedal. The Tigers will now wait and see what unfolds over the next couple of weeks because they have a bye. However, they will be watching one conference particularly hard; the SEC. Florida will probably have some competition in the SEC Championship and if they should lose; it could mean an Arizona State vs. Clemson BCS National Championship!

...The road to the National Championship will have to go through Florida (in more ways than one). On a very rainy afternoon in Tampa, FL, the #2 Clemson Tigers squared off with the #24 Miami Hurricanes for the ACC Championship. The Hurricanes started off well and were driving the ball effectively against the Tigers defense until Robert Marve through an interception that C. Chancellor took to the house for 6! The rest of the game they would be playing catch-up as they turned it over 3 more times and hindered any chance of an upset of the #2 team in the Nation. The Tigers will now turn their attention to the #1 team in the Nation as they prepare to play the Florida Gators for the BCS National Championship in Miami, FL on 1/8/09.
I had a chance to catch up to some Tigers after the game. Here are some quotes from the Tigers after the ACC Championship trophy:
Coach Bowden:
When asked how long before the team starts getting ready for Florida:
"We are going to get to work as soon as possible. We have accomplished our goal of being Champions of the ACC but our ULTIMATE goal is still out there; being National Champs. It would be null & void to just stop here and settle for a conference Championship when we get to play for the National one and I like our chances"
When asked about trying to stop Tim Tebow and the Gator offense
"You know...he is somebody you REALLY have to worry about but they have so many offensive weapons that if you pay too much attention to ONE guy; somebody else will step up and burn you. But I believe our Defense is up to the challenge and I think they will take this personally. A couple years back people asked how Texas would defeat USC and stop them but Texas had a playmaker by the name of Vince Young that could change & win the game. We have our very own guy in C.J. Spiller that can win a game with his speed and pass catching ability. You saw today...he even returned a kickoff for a TD. I'm sure they are worrying about US too"
http://www.easportsworld.com/en_US/video/525064
C.J. Spiller kickoff Return for TD to open 2nd Half
When asked if it will be any easier not having to defend WR Percy Harvin (who is out for the season):
"They are still a tough team and obviously he would have made it even tougher but they have a DEEP depth chart and I do not expect his abscence to slow them down. They have like 4 running backs that have 4.2 speed (laughs)...that's enough right there to keep you up at night. We expect to get everything Urban Meyer and the Gators have and they can expect the same from us!"
Clemson RB and Heisman candidate C.J. Spiller:
When asked how it felt to break BOTH of Barry Sanders records:
"It feels great man....but it would be even sweeter to add a National Championship on top of all that.
When asked if he will be able to break the game open against a speedy Gator D:
"...you have to watch and find out but we know they are fast &
aggressive and we are expecting the best out of them; but we are going to give them our best shot as well...You will see us work harder than we've ever worked before this season...we really want this because we've worked our way from #11 to #2...with some help from other teams losing but everybody expected us to lose a game or two and here we are!"
Here are some key stats from the Championship win:
Passing:
C. Harper 13 for 14 111 yds 1 TD
Rushing:
C.J. Spiller 27 carries 220 yds 2 TD
Receiving:
M. Palmer 4 rec. 21 yds
C.J. Spiller 3 rec. 38 yds 1 TD
X. Dye 2 rec. 28 yds
T. Grisham 1 rec. 9 yds

....And the Winner is..................C.J. Spiller, Running Back from Clemson
The 2008 Heisman Memorial Trophy is presented to C.J. Spiller from the University of Clemson Tigers
Acceptance Speech from Spiller:
" First off....I wanna thank God for giving me the ability to play football, My mom, my Coach, teammates, opponents for not being able to tackle me (laughs)....I'm just speechless right now. I wanna thank Barry [Sanders] for giving me a call and encouraging me when I was nearing his records. My offensive line & wide receivers share in this because theyve made key blocks all year that allowed me to get to the outside and use my speed to run to the endzone. I expect there to be pressure now that Ive won this trophy to win the National Championship and that is what Clemson is going to Miami to do! "
What a year for a phenomenal Running Back; it will go down in history as one of the greatest performances by an athlete. The future is bright for Spiller and he has set the bar high for running backs to come just like Barry Sanders did at Oklahoma State. Will Spiller enter the Draft? It will probably depend on the outcome of the National Championship...but after the year he has had...wouldn't you?!?!?! What is there left to prove? He could seriously hurt his stock by coming back another year and could possibly risk injury! Go, young man, GO PRO! We will keep an eye on his decision in the future but now we see why Coach Bowden recruited so heavily at the RB position because James Davis and CJ Spiller (possibly) are gone. Who will emerge out of that pack and what will the Clemson running attack be like next year?....STAY TUNED

You're right about that. He could definitely get a degree but he might find himself a Matt Leinart situation...Remember when he came back for his Senior year and just took one class (dancing I think...lol) and lost like 10 million. If he's dedicated; he'll always be able to come back and get his degree but we will definitely see; I can't wait to advance to that screen and see his decision and whether I will be able to persuade him to stay.

There is a bug with online Dynasties, after convincing players to stay - they still leave. After you convince them to stay, you can actually log off, and log back in and you will still have all your recruiting hours and it would be as if you did not work convincing people to stay. I would like to know if you guys figure out a workaround though. In the Dynasty we play in, we all just have an understanding that if a player chooses to go pro, he is gone, and we take it as a challenge to fill the roster accordingly.

....On a beautfiful night in Miami, FL; a Championship was on the line. There were so many jaw dropping moments that it had to be one of the best games I've ever seen. Intruiging story lines developed all throughout the game and I will try to take your through with me on a Championship game very well played.
From the opening kickoff the electricity was there...2008 Heisman trophy winner C.J. Spiller and his Clemson Tigers going up against 2007 Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow and his Florida Gators. Two plays into this fantastic game the Clemson fans had their breath taken away and not by one of Spiller's anke-breaking moves; it was the fact he lay motionless on the turf and didn't MOVE after being tackled.
http://videocdn.easw.easports.com/easportsworld/media2/ncaa09/45718/882A0001_2_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_rdA.jpg
He would leave the field and not return...so in steps James Davis who has FRESH legs because Spiller carried the load the entire year but it was the Senior's time to shine. Cullen Harper connected a beautiful 36 yard TD to Jacoby Ford for the games first TD.
The Tigers Defense held Tebow and the Gators in check for the first half...surrendering no points to the explosive offense. The Tigers were marching right before the half when Florida DB D. Munroe stepped in front of a Cullen Harper pass and took it about 80 yds to the house for the Gators first points of the game. Clemson would answer with :57 seconds left with a Grisham rush to put them up 21 to 7 and in the driver's seat.

"Tebow gets his head taken off by Clemson DE R. Sapp"
Second Half:
I don't know what kind of speech Urban Meyer conjured up at Halftime but the Gators came out fired up in the second half...scoring 17 unanswered points to take the lead by three in the third quater. The Tigers would respond in the Fourth though...playing stellar Defense and making crucial plays at crucial times. Tim Tebow threw an interception with two minutes left to go in the Fourth which was returned for a TD. At this point in the game it put Clemson up by 8...

"Tebow throws a pass he wishes he had back"
Tebow and the Gators got the ball back with 1:04 left on the clock after a 43 yard return from Chris Rainey and drove to the score with only :25 seconds remaining...even adding the Two point conversion to tie the game.

OVERTIME:

No Graham Harrell, No Michael Crabtree, No Offense. No CJ Spiller, No James Davis, No Cullen Harper, No Jacoby Ford? No problem!!! The Clemson Tigers started off their title defending season by playin a # 14 Texas Tech Red Raider squad that wasn't ready for Death Valley.
Clemson lost what you could say was their WHOLE offense but it didn't matter as Clemson did not look to have lost a step at all. The #1 Recruit in the Nation from last year, RB Jared Williams made his presence known IMMEDIATELY as he posted 269 yards in the first half as Coach Azure sat him and let the 2nd head of the attack take over for 2nd half. Freshman RB Corey Schmidt posted 164 yards & 2 TDs....the Message "We can STILL run the ball" was sent CLEARLY. Williams scored 5 Total TDs as the Tigers put a hurtin on the Red Raiders by a score of 75-17. It is clear that the passing offense will have to step it up if they want to make it to another BCS Championship but the run game of the Tigers is in very capable hands as the Williams & Schmidt tandem look to be as lethal as Davis & Spiller were. Every time Williams touched the ball; you had the feeling that he was going to score and Schmidt (while not as dynamic as Williams) is a VERY good RB and if you slip up for one second you will be looking at the back of his jersey and cleats as he sprints down the field. But Williams has "it"...whatever "it" is...this kid has it as he looked to be a Man among boys running the ball out there. He set a record for most rushing yards by a Clemson RB in a game and he only played the first half. This kid is special....only time will tell if he puts up C.J. Spiller type numbers but he certainly got off on the good foot! Since he is a transfer...he is a Sophmore on the field but I will go ahead and say he's gone after next year....He's NFL talent....Lookout for him this season as the Tigers defend their title!
