WEEK 1
#18 Illinois Fighting Illini @ #7 Missouri Tigers.
http://www.faniq.com/images/blog/Chase%20Daniel%20for%20Heisman.jpg
The #18th ranked Fighting Illini came into this game heavily overmatched. Heisman runner-up, Chase Daniel, at the helm of a high powered spread offense seemed too much for the Illini. The Illini came into this gave with one huge advantage. The Weather.
It was a torrential downpour in the wonderful city of Missouri. Despite the spread offense of the Illini, Juice Williams was able to use his feet in a less then convenient playing field.
The Tigers got off to a quick start when Chase Daniel connected with breakout player, Jeremy Maclin on a 72 yard touchdown pass. Poor tackling and lack of coverage was to blame here. 7-0 Tigers
Juice Williams was able to orchestrate a pretty nice drive hitting some WR's and running the ball to get the Illini to the 1 yardline. After being stopped on 1st and 2nd down, Juice Williams snuck it from a yard away to tie the game up at 7-7
After exchanging the ball a couple times the Tigers were able to make it into FG range where they would take the lead 10-7 Tigers. Throwing the ball in the rain seemed to be hard for Juice, as he would be intercepted. Three plays later Jeremy Maclin caught his 2nd touchdown pass of the day from Daniel, on a 27 yard hookup. 17-7 Tigers It was looking rough for the Illini. All of that changed when LB Martez Wilson sacked Daniel and the ball came loose and Defensive Tackle Sam Carson came up with it. 62 yards later the Illini were back in the game. 17-14 Tigers
After a rare, quick 3 and out the Tigers were faced to punt. Arrelious Benn would set up the Illini with good field position. Juice Williams would take full advantage of it. However after two incompletions, a score was looking extra slim. On 3rd and 11 on a whim, Juice lobbed it up to all-conference sophmore, Arrelious Benn who brought it in at the 1 yardline with 5 seconds to go. RB Daniel Dufrene would run it in from a yard out at the end of the half. 21-17 Illini
The Illini would exchange 3-and-outs a couple times before Juice would hit Arreious Benn on an 11 yard play-action touchdown pass. The Illini would get into the redzone but kicker Mike Cklamovski would miss the easy FG. However Chase Daniel would answer the missed FG with a 6 yard TD pass of his own to Jimmy Jackson. 28-24 Illini
Going into the 4th quarter both teams were exhausted by the brutal beatings they were receiving from the other team. Illinois was able to get a 7 pt lead with a FG with 3 minutes left 31-24 Illini. They would stop Chase Daniel and the tigers on a 4th and 1 attempt. Juice Williams was able to pick up a couple first downs by using his feet on 3rd down conversions taking valuable time off the clock. Chase Daniel would attempt to bring his team a tie to force overtime. He would get his team to the 50 but used all 3 timeouts doing so. Forced with a 4th and 4, he converted to WR Jimmy Jackson on a drag with time running out they had 1 last play from the 43 in which he would connect with a WR on hailmary/cross route however the WR would catch it and be pushed out of bounds while running the TD at the 2 yardline. LB Martez Wilson was there for the stop.

WEEK 3
University of Louisiana-Lafayette @ #15 Illinois Fighting Illini
http://www.illinoisloyalty.com/i/20071027/vontae-davis-241.jpg
The story of the game was to see how many points the Illini could score. It all capped off on the 2nd play from scrimmage when Cajun QB _____ threw an interception to Vontae Davis who then returned it 34 yards for a Illini TD 7-0 Illini. A quick 3-and-out would then allow Juice Williams to connect with Kyle Hudson on a 37 yard play-action toss. 14-0 Illini. A 14-0 lead in the 1st qtr would monopolize into 24 second quarter points. The halftime score was 38-3 Illini
A majority of the 2nd half was spent running the ball with Daniel Dufrene who wound up with over 150 yards on the day. Two very exciting defensive plays would happen in the 4th qtr, Vontae Davis had a "Devin Hester/Highlight reel" type interception return for 89 yards changing direction twice. Also Chris Duvalt recovered a fumble and took it 34 yards. The Illini won the game easily with a score of 59-3
GAME BALL

WEEK 5
#15 Illinois Fighting Illini @ #11 Penn State Nittany Lions
http://collegerule.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/white1js9.gif
The 1st "Big" game of the year for the Big-10 conference was between the #15 Illini and the #11 Nittany Lions. The game was played as PSU in a sea of white. The home crowd would give Juice Williams and the rest of the fighting illini some problems communicating after some false starts, but eventually they settled down and began their climb to victory. It would be a tough one at first due to the speedy back of Evan Royster for the Nittany Lions.
The game would start out with a nice drive put together by PSU where Daryl Clark would find Butler in the endzone on a 4 yard play-action pass. Illinois would answer back with it's own drive where it had to convert two third and longs. Juice Williams, the man of the day, would find Arrelious Benn for a 6 yard TD toss as he scampered outside of the pocket. Penn State and Illini would exchange a punt which left Illinois at the 2 yard line. This would is where Juice would be sacked for a safety. After they received the safety punt they moved the ball with ease until Vontae Davis caught a pass from PSU QB Daryl Clark which he took the other way for a Fighting Illini Touchdown. The PSU 9-7 lead over the Illini was very short-lived. 15-9 Illini
Evan Royster and PSU would find some strength in their ground game as they ate up a lot of clock and scored on a 4 yard TD by Royster. Juice Williams would put together a nice drive as well but couldn't convert on a 3rd and 1 and would have to punt. The same fate would happen for PSU. A nice punt return by Benn would give Illini great field position and Juice would take it in for a touchdown from 2 yards out. A three-and-out would give Juice and the Fighting Illini plenty of time to try and score again before the half. However a couple errant passes would mean that they would have to settle with a 40 yd FG as time expired. 25-16 Illini
The 3rd Qtr was dominated by the Fighting Illini. The opening kickoff of the 2nd half Brian Gamble(WR) returned it 90 yards for a Touchdown. 32-16 Illini. They would exchange punts a couple times and then Juice Williams would have another QB sneak for a touchdown. The score going into the 4th qtr was 40-16 Illini
The 4th qtr is where both teams exchanged meaningless touchdowns and on the last play of the game, MLB Martez Wilson intercepted QB Daryl Clark at the 3 yardline to save a last second touchdown for the Nittany Lions. The Illini played a very well game and limited turnovers. Asides from a Juice Williams interception, the Illini played a near flawless game.
Final Score= Illinois (54) -vs- Penn State (29)
GAME BALL- Juice Williams.

WEEK 5
#11 Illinois Fighting Illini (4-0)@ Michigan Wolverines (1-3)
http://assets.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/3727/michigan066-vi.jpg
The undefeated Fighting Illini would come into the Big House in Michigan to play the 1-3 Wolverines. The wolverines are on a cold streak, and the 33 degrees forecast with showers definitely wouldn't help them on this cold streak either. The Illini have played in one downpour so far this year last week against Penn state so their spread offense should be acclimated to bad weather at this point in the season. Long sleeves and gloves
The game would start out with a solid drive being put together by Redshirt Freshmen Michigan QB Steven Threet until he hit a wide open Illinois Cornerback in Vontae Davis who would be tackled as soon as he caught it. Three plays into the drive, a blown assignment on a option run and great pitch by Juice Williams to Daniel Dufrene would give the Illini the lead on a 34 yard TD run. 7-0 Illini After a unresponsive drive by the Michigan offense, they would punt to All-American Arrelious Benn who would return it to the 7 yardline before being pushed out of bounds. Juce would take it to the 4 on option play. And Dufrene would be stopped for no gain, and on 3rd and Goal Dufrene would be stopped for a loss of 2 yards on a sweep. Illinois would capitalize on points tho by picking up a 26 yard field goal. 10-0 Illini If the Michigan offense doesn't put points on the board soon, this game could be over and they'll be thrown to the wolves. Just that would happen because Donsay Hardeman would intercept a Michigan pass and put the Illini at the 23 yardline. Already in the 1st Qtr this conference game is getting ugly for the Wolverines. A 17 yard pass from Williams to TE Cumberland would put them at the 6 yardline where RB Daniel Dufrene would pickup his second rushing TD of the day from 6 yards out 17-0 Illini
The two teams would trade a couple 3-and-outs before Michigan get it's first first down of the game. Threet would hit Brandon Minor in the flats who would break 3....yes...3 tackles and then proceed to juke out another defender to take it 54 yards for a touchdown. 17-7 Illini Illinois began to find a lot of run success on the ground by pounding the UM defense. They found no answer for Juice and Dufrene. Dufrene would get his 3rd touchdown of the day on a 28 yard off-tackle play. The weather was playing into Illinois running game perfectly. Nearing the end of the 2nd half the Wolverines needed to put together a nice drive to get points on the board but they would come up short and have to punt a little past the 50 yard line. However a fake punt couldn't be capitalized on and they would turn the ball over to a dominant offense at the 50 yardline. With a 1:13 left in the 1st half they would have a great oppurtunity to put the game in the bag. A big sack on 2nd & 8 would put that notion to sleep as the Illini would have to punt. At halftime the score was 24-7 Illini
A slow drive would get energy on 3rd and 12 when Juice would escape 2 sacks to run for a 22 yard gain. Backup Running Back Troy Pollard would come away with a 2 yard TD after Daniel Dufrene did most of the damage. 31-7 Illini. WR Greg Mathews would be carted off the field after LB Martez Wilson D-D-Destroyed him across the middle. The very next play Brandon Minor would take a screen for about 30 yards. LB Sam Carson would save a TD. Michigan was gaining a little momentum on offense. Two big 1st downs through the air wouldnt' mean anything when they couldn't convert on 3rd and 6 they would have to attempt a Field Goal. They would MISSSSSS IT! A 34 yard field goal was missed wide right. Illinois would have 3 runs not amount to 10 yards so a punt would be in order. It would get a very gracious bounce and they it would stop rolling at the 9 yard line. It was over a 55 yard punt. Going into the 4th qtr it would be 31-7 Illini
Feeling as if it was their last chance at their own 31 they would go for it on 4th and 6. They would get it on a 12 yard crossing route to Brandon Minor. Would they be able to get into the endzone tho? Another 4th down conversion on a HB screen would happen but LB Sam Carson would once again make a TD saving tackle which resulted in a FUMBLE. He would recover it himself. The Michigan players seemed very frustrated with themselves. Illinois would continue to give it to the work horse Daniel Dufrene and he would take them to the red zone. Two errant passes by Juice Williams would stick the Illini at the 7 yardline at 3rd & 6. Dufrene would be stopped for a loss and they would have to settle with a FG. 34-7 Illini Illinois would get the ball on a punt and run the clock out. A very impressive win, but the weather definitely was in favor of the Illini.
GAME BALL-Daniel Dufrene(RB), 34 carries, 169 yards, 3 TD's, 1 catch, 2 yards
