How long before we see trouble between these two? I bet it will not be long. Maybe Crabtree will prove me wrong but I think he's gonna be problems.

Look when Vernon Davis got into the doghouse of Singletary. His was more from effort but Singletary isn't going to put up with any crap. Time will tell though.

It's a real shame that Crabtree put himself into this position by not signing. Wonder how much his agent had a role in not signing until now?

Crabtree must have an awful big ego because he wanted the money closer to higher draft picks.

What was he thinking because the NFL draft picks salaries always match closely from year to year depending on the round & picks. How could he expect to get a salary matching the top 5 picks anyhow? Geez! :shakehead:

Day Three:

Arms and Shoulders

This workout is pretty hard if you don't have numerous dumbbells or have a gym that you can go to since it essentially is all using the weights. It is pretty much an intense lifting workout with no bench press or anything though. However, my arms were completely fatigued by the end of this workout. It was fun, it was intense, and I really felt it in my shoulders and triceps. There are about 30 sets of lifting (minus 4 sets of non-weighted workouts), so you are definitely going to be working. Don't try and be a hero and lift big weights early or else you'll tire yourself out way too quickly.

I loved it though because as TH says, it's the glory muscles...when I was doing my workouts on my own I was essentially doing the same arm workouts everyday. Yeah my arms were getting stronger, but I was plateauing and I was only working a couple areas and not the whole arm. This will tone your entire arms from elbow to shoulder blade. After a while of course since one day a week isn't going to lead to drastic results right away.

Here is the results of my workout:

Spoiler for {option}:
I also did Ab Ripper X again, and it was tougher than day one.

Day Four:

Yoga X

I went into Yoga not looking forward to it, because I felt like it was hippy crap that was pointless.

I was supposed to clear my mind for Yoga, but I really didn't because it's not what I do, and besides the annoying repeat of exercises+1 in the first half like the 12 Days of Christmas that was annoying, it was good stretching my body out and having a light workout. I felt like a loser doing it but in the long run I will be more flexible for it.

Day Five:

Legs and Back

This was not as difficult as I thought it was going to be going into it, but I was still tired and weak afterwards. All but one or two exercises don't require the weights and are mainly balance and hold routines to get those hamstrings, quads and calves burning. There is also a lot of pull-up exercises as well to help strengthen the back, the forgotten part of the body when most people work out. Most people hate working the legs, but for even people that are afraid of injuring their legs, like me, having lost my last 2 years of my track career due to pulled hamstrings and stress fractures in my shin area, it was still a good workout that over time will shape the legs and build the strength. However in order to shape the legs, I suggest a complementary run, either on the same day as L&B or on the off day.

Here is my workout:

Spoiler for {option}:
Ab Ripper X Part 3: Was a nightmare with tired legs but I got through it.

Day Six:

Kenpo X

One word: Fun. Another word: Sweaty. It is not that hard of a workout, but man you are going to break a sweat and have a blast. I did this last night and it really helped get the frustration out from my issues with OSU. It's essentially all punches and kicks for about an hour, with three extended breaks where calistetics are done to keep the heart rate up. Most of the sets start off slow and end with either a rapid session or with more power behind the kicks or punches. As TH says, don't overextend. I did a couple of times and my hamstring on the left side was getting a little sore but it didn't really affect the workout. It is a blast though, I felt like a Karate master or a boxer prepping to fight and after doing this workout multiple times, I feel like I can beat some ass and burn some fat at the same time. I do need to work on my nutsack block though, I'm a little slow with that one.

If you want a semi-low impact workout that is a blast. Try this one. I can't wait til next Monday to do it again.

Ab Ripper X Part Four: Since today is a rest day, I figured I would do abs for a second straight day. It was not as bad as after legs and back but it was still hard and intense. After just doing this a few times, I can tell that my stomach is starting to shape and that after a few weeks the six-pack is going to show up. Hell yeah.

Week one is now complete for me, 12 to go! I might do X Stretch or go for a run to break out my new Nike running shoes I got for my birthday after work, but I have to be easy since I have pushup galore Chest and Back again tomorrow.

My one tip I have though is that if something is sore or hurting, ICE IT! Some people's bodies aren't as resilient and aren't as injury resistant. Sometimes ice is needed. Don't hurt yourself and break the routine because you didn't take the precautions. Also, try and lay off the crappy foods. I have so far this week besides a piece of cheesecake for my birthday on Friday at work, and I feel like I have more energy and am slimming down. I don't really need to slim down but I know that the more fat I burn, the better it'll be in the long run.

Now that I've been able to do a full week, you guys better do it to! TH says BRING IT. I say Do work.

Day One:

Ab Ripper X-

Did all of the required workouts and the required reps except for the one with the fist touches on side to side (last exercise). I only did 15 of those. I am looking forward to the x stretch and yoga x so I can get my flexibility back bc my legs don't bend straight.

Plyometrics-

Should not have done this day one. If someone not committed did this exercise first, they would've quit in 10 minutes. Intense isn't the word for it. I'm pretty sure it will be the toughest workout I encounter. No stop cardio and jumps from start to finish. I got through it with only 2 extra breaks, 2 extended regular breaks. My suggestion is to keep on trucking after the first half because it gets a little less taxing. The last set is fun and is one of the most intense, but if you love sports, you won't even think you are doing a plyo workout. Good luck, I was completely dead afterwards and I am still having trouble standing from the floor after 24 hours.

Day Two:

Chest and Back-

I was relieved to discover that this was not nearly as intense as plyos, but even though the workouts seem pretty simplistic, and you may know most of them, the 2nd set is a bitch. My arms would give out and even though you have the will to continue, your body just is completely wiped out. You need a lot of equipment for this exercise, the chin up bar is used (can be modified with bands)...I used my bed as my bar since it's a loft. You also need dumbbells for 3 of the workouts. I don't own any but luckily, the place I live has the gym about 100 feet away so I could run over and do those last 3 workouts after the tape was finished. Definitely listen to the instructions. Pace yourself on the first go round, don't try and go all out or you will die on the 2nd round. On the second round just keep it going, it's not as intense because it's not cardio but man you feel it. Also, make sure you keep track of your reps, I am...the following is the chart of how I did in the workout today.

When you think of your typical NFL quarterback, you think of players like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Kurt Warner and others with cannon like precision in their arms. West Virginia’s Patrick White is anything, but your typical NFL prototype quarterback, yet he may be one of the best to come out of the 2009 NFL Draft.

White, a tremendous athlete has looked like anything, but a future NFL quarterback and yet he has managed to turn some heads early in the year.

Perhaps when the nation was watching the most, the 6‘1”, 192-pound White performed at his best. White threw for a career high 332 yards, 3 touchdowns while completing 26 of his 32 passes. Along with showing of his arm, White did what he did best in college and rushed for 55 yards on 21 carries.

White, arguably college football’s most prolific rushing quarterback finished his Mountaineer career with 4,480 rushing yards, and 47 rushing touchdowns. While White was known for his outstanding rushing, his outstanding arm is starting to standout.

White while at West Virginia had a touchdown to interception ratio of 56/23. During the North vs. South All-Star game White’s arm helped lead the South to 35-18 victory passing for 95 yards and a touchdown along with 31 rushing yards on three carries.

Continuing his recent success, I would say White improved his NFL Draft Stock at the NFL’s Scouting Combine. White was not only the fastest quarterback at the NFL combine, but he showed a much more impressive arm than did highly touted quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and John Parker Wilson.

West Virginia’s spread option offense may have hurt White’s draft status, but should NFL team’s continue their Wildcat offense fad then perhaps White has a strong chance as an NFL quarterback rather than a wide receiver as suggested by many NFL experts.

At this point, White in my mind has the potential talent to be taken early on in the second round. Look for teams on draft day such as Chicago, New York, Kansas City and others to take White as a projected loaded with a lot of potential.

In the long rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees there has been perhaps no greater period of competitiveness, especially in the offseason, than in the present.

Last year, Boston made it to the ALCS but came up short against Tampa Bay while the Yankees missed the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.

In spite of baseball being in its offseason, the rivalry between these two clubs never fails to heat up the dead of winter. This offseason has been no different.

While remarkably competitive, the two clubs have taken a different approach to the offseason. With some of the deepest pockets in all of sports, both the Sox and Yankees have the luxury of spending big money on baseball’s hottest free agent commodities.

Along with money, both New York and Boston have a tradition of winning behind them, making them attractive to any free agent. However, they have taken different approaches to molding their clubs over the winter.

fter finishing third in the AL East and missing the playoffs, a down year by any Yankee fan's standards, New York went out and made three blockbuster signings on the free-agent market.

The economy may be in a recession, but don’t tell that to the Yankees who spent a combined $423.5 million on pitchers C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and first baseman Mark Teixeira.

The additions of veteran arms like Sabathia and Burnett, who combined for 35 wins last year, will stabilize the Yankees pitching staff going into next season. Along with a healthy Chien-Ming-Wang, the Yankees staff should rebound superbly next season.

Meanwhile, Teixeira who hit 33 homers and drove in 121 RBI, adds another dimension to an already potent lineup, solidifying the middle of their order.

On the other hand, Boston took a much cheaper free-agent route, signing veteran pitchers Brad Penny ($5 Million), John Smoltz ($5.5 Million), and former Dodgers bullpen standout Takashi Saito. Saito is only two years removed from a career season in which he recorded 39 saves and maintained a 1.40 ERA.

The Red Sox went bargain hunting with low-risk, high-reward types of players while the Yankees brought in the best of the best. Only time will which offseason route will be more effective.

*Manchester...

Ignoring the fact that this would have been much better on new years eve, here is a blog post about tense, strange or bizarre endings.

Manchester United 2 - 1 Bayern Munich - 1999 Champions league final

Having been behind nearly the entire game Manchester United scored 2 goals in added time to win the Champions league. The interesting thing is that moments before the first goal the TV commentator had said about ManU, "They must score, they always score." A strange case of the commentators curse working backwards...

Music City Miracle - January 8th 2000

A fairly obvious inclusion really, as it was, and still is in Buffalo, a massive controversy. The play was called "Home run throwback" and involved Frank Wycheck throwing a lateral across the field to Kevin Dyson. As it happened Lorenzo Neal received a short kick off and first lateralled it to Wycheck. The lateral from Wycheck to Dyson is much more controversial. To this day no-one can agree whether it went forwards or not. Anyway, it was ruled a lateral and Dyson's TD counted, giving the Titans a 22-16 win.

Trinity - Milsaps 2008

15 laterals in a play lasting over a minute. I'd have more to say if it wasn't a D3 college game and there was any more info than it's easy to find lol. So "15 Laterals"! will have to do.

The pine tar incident - MLB July 24th 1983

I'm sure most people have heard of this. George Brett hit a home to put the Royals up 5-4 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. All well and good, until the umpire ruled, after a protest, that there was too much pine tar on his bat and called him out. This caused uproar, and caused the game to be suspended until a ruling could be made. The commissioner ruled that the home run should stand and the rest of the game be played out later. The remainder of the game was played some 25 days later minus Brett and various others who were ruled to have been ejected for their outbursts. The controversy didn't end there, with the Yankees protesting that Brett hadn't touched all the bases, causing the umpire to produce a letter signed by the umpire in the original game saying that he had. The Yankees manager was ejected. As a form of protest, Don Mattingly played 2B, becoming the first left-handed second-baseman for 10 years (There's only been one since).

Apart from this, in my opinion the most bizarre ending to any sporting event ever was the Barbados - Grenada soccer match mentioned in a previous post.

Unrepeatable (or close) feats

Following the deaths this past week of Sammy Baugh and Dock Ellis, I thought I'd do a post about feats in sports that may never be repeated or beaten. I'll start with the two obvious ones.

Sammy Baugh - 4 passing TDs & 4 Defensive INTS in one game

Read that again. And again. Now think about it. This is one feat that I am willing to say will never be beaten in my lifetime. Even if I fulfil my ambition to live to at least 114. Football is too specialised, and the two feats themselves are both difficult enough as it is, especially the INTs. I'll go as far to say that it's massively unlikely that anyone could do it in a whole season. The only way I can see someone even getting one of each in a single game is if someone like Antwaan Randle El had to play CB because of injury and also threw a TD on a trick play.

Dock Ellis - Pitched a No-hitter while high on Acid

Assuming the story is true (it seems possible, given his stats for the game, he walked 8 hitters and hit a batter) this is a fairly unrepeatable feat. It's almost certainly unbeatable, unless someone throws a perfect game while on acid, which seems unlikely, since more men have orbited the moon than have thrown a perfect game in MLB. I would love someone to try this now, it would be hilarious...

John Petrie and Archie Thompson - 13 goals in one soccer match

I was tempted to give this solely to Thompson because the match he did it in was a world cup qualifier in 2001 and not a first round Scottish cup game from 1885, but I'm an equal opportunity stats geek... Both matches were frankly stupid, and the losing teams would have been better off forfeiting. In the case of John Petrie and his Arbroath team, they beat a team of non football players from a cricket team called Bon Accord 36 - 0, which is a first class record, and will probably stay that way. The international record was broken by Australia in 2001 when they beat Tonga 22 - 0. Not at all basking in the glory of this, they then beat American Samoa 31 - 0 in their next game (hardly a surprise, given American Samoa had lost 13 - 0 to Fiji of all teams). Thompson scored 13 of the goals.

Brian Lara - 501 in a first class Cricket match

Ok, the second highest score on the list is 499, but there have only been 10 scores of over 400 in first class cricket history, and Lara's done it twice. since about 1860 in other words. I don't really have much to say about Lara's innings, partly because I think cricket will probably be lost on most of the readers of this blog lol. As far as I can tell the record for the most runs by one player in a cricket game ever is something like 620 in a schools game in about 1900 (feel free to research and correct me on that lol).

There are plenty more, but I'll save those for a rainy day...

I can't write a blog about strange sports happenings without talking about this.

It was in the 1994 Caribbean cup, the final first round game in group 1. Going into the game Grenada lead the group on goal difference from Barbados, meaning the latter had to win by 2 goals to take the group. All was going well with 7 minutes to go and the score at 2-0 to Barbados, but then Grenada scored.

This created a problem for Barbados, but under the (unique, in my experience) rules of the competition if any match was decided in overtime it counted as a two goal win.

So Barbados did the only sensible thing, and scored an own goal to make it 2-2 and send it to overtime. This was fine, until Grenada realised what was happening, and tried to score an own goal themselves.

There was then 5 minutes of stupidity where Grenada tried to score at either end and Barbados basically defended both goals. Fortunately they managed to hod the score at 2-2 and hen score in overtime to be awarded a 4-2 win and a place in the next round of the cup.

I'm falling behind on my Lost Odyssey and playing a couple other new games (PGR4 and Orange Box).
Oh well...maybe this Amp energy drink will give me the needed boost to power through 5-7 hours of Gears 2 tonight, that way I can play Lost Odyssey a lot tomorrow. We'll see.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8...-dies?MSNHPHMA

Sammy Baugh died Wednesday night, he was probably the most versatile player ever to play in the NFL.

He once led the league in Passing yards, punting avg, and Defensive interceptions all in one season.

Last season, the leaders in those three categories were: Tom Brady, Shane Lechler and Antonio Comartie. Now, imagine one player who was as good as all of them. Fucking madness. If it had never happened and I made that up, you'd think I was insane (maybe you do anyway...).

So to commemorate the passing (pun intended) of Sammy Baugh, here's my blog post about versatility in sports.

Deion Sanders The only man ever to play in both a Superbowl and a World Series (correct me if I'm wrong there), and the most recent two-sport star.

He hit 39 career Home Runs and Stole 186 bases as a baseball player, and as a football player he had 9 Kick/punt return Touchdowns, 3 Receiving touchdowns, 9 INT return touchdowns, and a fumble recovery touchdown. He also threw 2 career passes.

Wes Welker A slightly strange choice you might think, but he is one of only two players to convert a FG, convert an XP, record a tackle and have a kick off and a punt return in the same game. I'm not sure who the other one is, but I'm going to guess at Paul Hornung.

José Luis Chilavert (Paraguayan soccer player) Well known, to me at least, for retiring as the leading scorer among goalkeepers with 62 goals, including 8 for Paraguay. He once scored a hat-trick of penalty kicks. He also won numerous goalkeeping awards.

Dennis Compton Slightly old-school here, but a two-sport star at around the time Sammy Baugh played football. He played soccer for Arsenal (and unofficially for England during the war) and also played Cricket for Middlesex and Enlgand, and had a test batting avg of 50.06, most good players avg is around 35.

I'm sure there are plenty more, but this post is long, feel free to mention any you think I should have done.

I'm going to use this blog to post about weird happenings in sports. Anything I happen to see online or in a newspaper or whatever.

To start with I'm going to look at bizarre scorelines in sports. Not just blowouts, although a few of the ones I have in mind are, but scores that you look at and think "is that a typo":

Manchester United 9 - 0 Ipswich Town - EPL 4th March 1995

This game featured a record margin of victory in the premier league, and until recently, a record for total number of goals. Andy Cole scored 5 of the goals for Man U, which is also a record.

Portsmouth 7 - 4 Reading - EPL 29th September 2007

This is the game that beat the above one for most total goals in a match. It could have been 7 - 5, but David James saved a penalty.

Cleveland Browns 8 - 0 Buffalo Bills - NFL 16th December 2007

Apart from being the first 8-0 finish to an NFL game since 1929, this is a fairly odd score. 2 field goals and a safety were the only scores.

Texas Rangers 30 - 3 Baltimore Orioles - MLB

More insane is that they were 3-0 at one point. This was the highest score for 110 years.

And Finally, I couldn't leave this out:

Georgia Tech 222 - 0 Cumberland - NCAA Football 17th October 7th 1919

The most one sided score in sports history I'm guessing (unless there are any sports where higher scores are common, if so, comment on this) Basically, Cumberland didn't have a football team, but couldn't afford the $3000 forfeit for cancelling the game, so they got their baseball coach and 14 random players and put their names to this game. Ga. Tech gained about 1000 yards, compared to -96 for Cumberland, whose longest play was a 10 yard pass on 4th and 22. Ga. Tech didn't attempt a pass.

Any comments?
