Avatar continues to draw massive crowds and after 12 days has grossed $250.4 million. Only four movies have reached the $250 million mark faster but all of them had much larger opening weekends than Avatar. Some of the reason why it is holding so well has to be attributed to the higher ticket prices from 3D and IMAX screens but it is the word-of-mouth that is the primary driver of success. The worldwide total gross is now nearing $700 million. It is remarkable looking at the weekday numbers...

After pulling in $77 million over the weekend Avatar made $16.4 million on Monday and $16.2 million on Tuesday. These are huge numbers for weekdays and a clear indication that it is benefiting from the incredibly strong word-of-mouth. Avatar has now made $109.5 million in just five days of release. The only movie to open higher than Avatar in the history of December was in 2007 with I Am Legend.  That movie followed up a $77.2 million weekend with a $7.5 million Monday in comparison. I Am ...

The final numbers are in for opening weekend of Avatar. The James Cameron film was able to pull in $77 million domestically and totaled $242 million worldwide. That is a good result but one that fell about in the middle of what was a wide range of industry predictions. Despite that the long-term outlook may be better than originally anticipated based on word-of-mouth that is proving incredibly strong. The worldwide take provided Avatar the title of the biggest opening weekend of all time fo...

One has to ask when reviewing a movie what factors need to be considered. Is it just the quality of the film in terms of the story and acting? Is it the emotion it invokes? Is it the pure entertainment factor? Really all that varies on the particular movie at hand. Avatar though is completely unique and really doesn't fit into any typical category. No film has ever been as ambitious yet it totally pulls it off. James Cameron waited years for the technology to arrive that could deliver his v...

What may be the most anticipated movie of the year Avatar opens next Friday. Certainly it has experienced an eventful buildup which is all now coming to a head. The talk of the project revolutionizing film visuals, expectations being a James Cameron film, fantastic trailer and heavy marketing campaign has led to some inevitable backlash to the hype. However now the movie has been screened for select critics and while there is an embargo until Monday some comments are being made. The excit...

Fox has released the first full trailer for Avatar. Reaction to the previous teaser was mixed however that isn't all that surprising considering it isn't being seen in 3D. The film is intended to be viewed in 3D theaters and the result is supposedly spectacular. Needless to say this new trailer will garner much stronger support. Written and directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Avatar represents a work that was originally envisioned by Cameron in 1994 but the technology ...
