GameShow Night this Saturday

EA GameShow

Saturday 11/17 will bring about the first Pastapadre.com GameShow Night. Up for grabs will be an EA GameShow t-shirt. Join in by playing during the 6pm ET to 2am ET time frame which is the live broadcast portion of the day.

This is a good opportunity for those who haven’t tried out GameShow to do so along with some of the regulars from the last couple weeks. Not only will you be gaining tokens through normal play to use towards the raffles but you’ll have the chance to come away with the t-shirt. Currently items such 360 versions of The Simpsons Game and Madden 08 and an iPod nano are on the clock raffle wise.

The winner of the shirt will not be determined by how well you do in GameShow. The idea was to make it fair to everyone and avoid it being favorable to the ones who have experience playing.

Soon after the end of GameShow play for the evening I will post up a 15 question multiple choice trivia form along with a tie-breaker. These questions will not be sports trivia, however they will be crafted based on the events of the evening. Things covered may include point totals, winners, category topics, poll results, host chatter and so on.

Those who play for longer and pay the most attention will have the best chance of knowing the answers. And even if you are only on for a shorter period of time, you’ll at least have a feel for it and may be able to make some educated guesses.

Entries will then be accepted until Monday 11/18 at 6pm ET. The person with the highest score will win the GameShow t-shirt.

Go here to read up on everything I’ve written about EA GameShow so far. Hope to see a lot of people in playing on Saturday!

NBA Live 08 OTP competition to look forward to

NBA Live 08

I wanted to give some advance notice of a competition that will be held here at the site. Once the Online Team Play is released for NBA Live 08 there will be an event utilizing it on the Xbox 360. That should be out by the end of November, which would mean this will probably be held in early December. While it is publicized as allowing for a full five on five, it will actually open up the ability to play any combination up to it. In this case we’ll be going two on two.

Obviously this far out in advance it is difficult to nail down any details, but here are some of the tentative aspects that I have drawn up for the framework of it.

When the time nears for the update to be released, I will begin accepting applications for two man teams who would like to take part in this. The applications will need to be submitted with both people for the team, you’ll need to have that arranged for already as no one is going to just get placed with someone else. Much of the consideration will have to do with availability but other things will be considered as well. It will likely be four teams (of two) that will be taken. That will then make up the initial mini-tournament.

With two people on each side it will probably be left open so you don’t lock into an individual player and quarters will likely be extended, possibly to eight minutes.

The team that wins the mini-tournament will then face off against the team of myself and Vince (who does much of the behind the scenes work for the site). This will be either one game or a three game series. I may record the games or even live broadcast them.

If the challenging team is victorious over the PP team, the two winners will each receive a significant prize. This may be one participant taking a Kevin Durant signed basketball and the other a Gilbert Arenas signed ball, or it may be each receiving a copy of March Madness 08 upon release. However if the PP team comes out on top each participant will receive something along the lines of 1600 MS Marketplace points. The prizes will be locked in closer to the start of the event.

I think this is something that will be a lot of fun not only to take part in but also to follow along with. The OTP for Live will open up a lot of opportunities to play the game differently. It will be interesting to see how things change when there is a teammate to rely on. I know Vince and I will be practicing together and will be prepared to take on the tournament winner.

So keep an eye out for updates as we approach and following the release of the OTP update!

Madden 08 Kickoff Competition

Reggie Wayne TD

Starting tomorrow (Tuesday the 14th) at Noon ET until Sunday night at 8ET there will be a Madden 08 Kickoff Competition taking place at the site.

All members of the pastapadre.com forum are eligible to participate and results of the games between fellow forum members are to be posted in the appropriate thread. To make it easier on everyone involved I would appreciate if people kept track of their own records themselves and posted it each time a result goes up. Default games will be ranked but if the two people agree to play an unranked game thats fine also as long as it is 5 minute quarters. The competition will be through the 360 and PS3 versions of the game.

There will be two ways to win a prize. The first will be the person with the most net wins. Instead of just the total amount of wins, which could possibly have been just the person who had the most time on their hands, this rewards the people who are efficient and successful on a per game basis. So the person with the highest number after subtracting losses from wins will get one prize. The next prize will go to the person with the most games played, record being of no consequence.

Net wins= 360 version of Def Jam Icon or PS3 related undetermined prize.
Most games= NCAA Football 08 360 faceplate or PS3 related undetermined prize.

NCAA Football 08 360 faceplate

Check this thread in the forum for more details and discussion on the event and the results thread will be up on Tuesday morning.
