  • Which Pro-Am from the upcoming NBA games is the most intriguing?
    Posted August 18th, 2015 at 11:15 am 8 Comments »
NBA 2K16 and NBA Live 16 don't share a lot in common in terms of the modes they'll be offering up, but they do have one that is not just similar in nature but share the same name: Pro-Am. The 2K Pro-Am takes the place of last year's Jordan Rec Center, and continues with 5-on-5 (every player can be controlled by a different user or some spots taken by CPU) and NBA rules. Leaderboards and matchmaking have been added - no more time wasted waiting in "Got Next" spots! However the biggest new...
  • Your thoughts on the short-term draft modes coming to EA Sports games
    Posted August 8th, 2015 at 1:15 pm 8 Comments »
With the success of the Ultimate Team model in EA Sports games, the company is faced with not just how to evolve and keep that mode fresh, but the challenge of developing new modes that capitalize further on what they've learned from it. The first attempt at such a mode is being introduced this year in Madden NFL 16 and FIFA 16. Draft Champions was announced at E3 while FUT Draft just premiered at Gamescom. Though they borrow conceptually from Ultimate Team they've eliminated the long-ter...
  • Does having few licensed courses and golfers affect your McIlroy purchase decision?
    Posted June 29th, 2015 at 5:00 pm 15 Comments »
Just two weeks now - and well under that for those with EA Access, and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will be in the hands of consumers. EA Sports has made a concerted effort to appeal to a more casual crowd with the game, offering up multiple play "styles", fantasy courses, and a mode called the Night Club Challenge. What they haven't done is tout their lineup of licensed courses and golfers and for good reason. There are only 12 real golfers on the roster and only 8 courses included on disc (plu...
  • Your Thoughts on Connected Franchise Improvements with Madden NFL 16
    Posted June 1st, 2015 at 4:00 pm 10 Comments »
Late last week EA Sports revealed the new features and improvements that have been made for Connected Franchise Mode in Madden NFL 16. Many of the features hit on requests from those who have played the mode in recent years, including the ability to sim a specific result, Combine information being available without the need to spend scouting points, and the ability to practice freely with the team. On the flip side the "Goals" system has its merits but also drawbacks and it's been expa...
  • Your Thoughts on the Feature Set for NHL 16
    Posted May 20th, 2015 at 5:15 pm 7 Comments »
The NHL season has only just reached the Conference Finals but EA Sports has provided an early glimpse ahead to fall's NHL 16. There's far more substance here, providing a full features list, than would be typical four months out from release and with E3 just under four weeks away. The experience of last year, when the company lost much of their consumer base by releasing a half-finished game and attempting to hide that fact until the very last minute, has necessitated this strategy of b...
  • Your Thoughts on the First Madden NFL 16 Feature News
    Posted May 18th, 2015 at 5:15 pm 19 Comments »
Last week EA Sports rolled out the first information related to Madden NFL 16. For the most part it was underwhelming and nondescript. The exception related to receiver-defender interactions including new controls for each side and more situations that will draw penalties. That will be the focus of the two polls today. The first asks how much does the news on receiver-defender interactions matter. Is this a big deal that has increased anticipation towards Madden 16? Or is it not enough c...
  • The Golf Club Not Having Much Effect on Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Purchase Plans
    Posted May 14th, 2015 at 10:15 am 5 Comments »
Golf is one of the few sports now to feature actual competition with the arrival of the "sim" game The Golf Club last August and its recent push due to a retail release and accompanying feature update. It's appeal is fairly limited however, targeting the golfing purists, while the upcoming Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is clearly trying to draw in casuals as well. A poll was posted last week to gauge how the presence of The Golf Club could be affecting the approach for some towards Rory McIlroy P...
  • Will The Golf Club Have Any Effect on Sales of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour?
    Posted May 7th, 2015 at 10:00 am 2 Comments »
Rory McIlroy PGA Tour acts as the return of EA Sports' golf franchise after taking over a year off but it will enter the market with a well-regarded golf game already available. The Golf Club will be its competition, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be much of a competition. The Golf Club has some advantages over McIlroy but also targets a smaller audience. It attempts to be a true simulation which means it's ultra-realistic and difficult. McIlroy on the other hand is offering d...
