  • Best Sports Game of the Generation Tournament: Round of 64 Region A
    Posted October 16th, 2013 at 10:00 am 15 Comments
With the current generation coming to a close - there will continue to be releases but they'll no longer be the focus of development or marketing - it offers an opportunity to reflect on the continually shrinking sports genre and how things have developed in the last eight years. In order to find what the community determines to be the best sports game of the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii generation is a tournament that will run over the next several weeks. 64 games were chosen to be part of the...
  • With Next-Gen Nearing What Are Your Current Plans Regarding Sports Games?
    Posted October 10th, 2013 at 11:00 am 25 Comments
With only five weeks until the launch of next-gen the four sports titles on-hand for release have shown and described very little of substance to convince consumers that they should be considered for purchase. Outside of FIFA 14, which by appearing at various conferences resulted in lengthy gameplay videos making it to the public, they've either barely been seen and disappointed (Madden NFL 25) or have been kept hidden (NBA 2K14, NBA Live 14). Back in early August the polls showed a signi...
  • Your Thoughts on NBA 2K14
    Posted October 2nd, 2013 at 2:15 pm 39 Comments
NBA 2K14 released this week to reduced fanfare due in part to the next-gen version - which 2K Sports decided to begin promoting the day prior the 360/PS3 version reaching stores - which is just around the corner and a lack of new features to inspire excitement in the product. Review scores are down with the Metacritic currently five points lower than 2K13. Despite that the changes made to gameplay have been largely recognized as valuable and that may be enough for some coming off such a str...
  • Your Thoughts on Madden NFL 25
    Posted August 27th, 2013 at 1:00 pm 71 Comments
It's officially launch day for Madden NFL 25 - though the Season Ticket release has taken some wind out of the yearly "big event" sails - and response to the game has been all over the board. My full impressions and run-through of Franchise mode attempted to paint a picture of the experience the game provides through nearly 30 hours of playing. A Press Row Hangout with Rich Grisham, who's somewhat more positive on the game, was recorded to discuss it from all angles at even greater length. ...
  • Your Thoughts on the Madden NFL 25 Demo
    Posted August 17th, 2013 at 12:45 pm 43 Comments
With sufficient time to evaluate the Madden NFL 25 demo since releasing last Tuesday here again is a chance to get a feel for reaction towards the game and whether the opportunity to play it has influenced any purchase decisions. Recently NCAA Football 14 got some really positive momentum following its demo and it'll be interesting to see how things compare with Madden. Hampered by a single camera angle that can't be changed in the demo (four others are available in the full game) ample o...
  • What Are Your Purchase Plans for The Sports Games Releasing Twice This Year?
    Posted August 3rd, 2013 at 12:30 pm 39 Comments
For those who plan on buying the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One besides having that decision to make another issue presents itself in the transition from the current generation to the next. A number of franchises are releasing their latest title for the Xbox 360 and PS3 only to deliver them again on the PS4 and One within months or even a few short weeks. (more…)...
  • What Are Your Current Next-Gen Plans?
    Posted July 24th, 2013 at 5:00 pm 25 Comments
With just three to four months to go until the next generation of consoles arrive, and over a month since Microsoft's reversal on restrictive DRM, it's a good time to again gauge consumer perception towards the PlayStation 4 (which has guaranteed launch day bundles available again on Amazon) and Xbox One and reassess potential purchase plans with the sports gaming community largely in mind. Advantage wise the PS4 is slightly more powerful, includes a headset, has a longer DVR gameplay rec...
  • Your Thoughts on NHL 94 Anniversary Mode in NHL 14
    Posted July 12th, 2013 at 1:00 pm 7 Comments
The 20th anniversary of one of the most revered sports games in history is being recognized with a place in NHL 14. The announcement of NHL 94 Anniversary mode though has brought about mixed reaction. NHL 94 was last featured in NHL 06 and in that case it was the actual original gameplay. In NHL 14 the mode is essentially just layering the old-school presentation over current-day gameplay. The removal of rules and the '94 control scheme were already options that could have been selected....
  • Which Officially Announced Next-Gen Sports Game Are You Most Anticipating?
    Posted June 26th, 2013 at 9:15 am 16 Comments
Earlier this month E3 delivered the first actual display of the next-gen sports games scheduled to release along with the consoles later this year or early into 2014. Some had legitimate gameplay trailers and others stuck with pre-rendered footage but most had something in-game to actually showcase at the event. (more…)...
  • Your Thoughts on the NCAA Football 14 Demo
    Posted June 20th, 2013 at 10:30 am 35 Comments
The NCAA Football 14 demo released on Tuesday and for the most part reaction has been fairly positive. A notably weak marketing campaign for the game may have actually resulted in those who follow developments intently finding themselves pleasantly surprised by the impact of various enhancements and additions made this year. The new Coordinator camera angle seems to be a big hit as well. Whether it's enough after a few years of disappointing efforts is the question. Vote in the poll below...
