With NPD reports in for December the entirety of 2014 can be analyzed and three sports games finished in the top ten of sales for the year. The three in question are regulars when rounding up the best-sellers annually. Madden NFL 15 finished as the second biggest seller in 2014. Only Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was able to top it. NBA 2K15 finished the year in seventh place and FIFA 15 came through in ninth place. It's important to note that NPD only covers North America. NBA 2K a...
  • Sales of EA Sports UFC Continue Alarming Downward Trend for the Sport
    Posted July 21st, 2014 at 11:30 am 31 Comments
EA Sports UFC has struggled in terms of review scores and word of mouth and now that the sales numbers have released the impact of the poor start to the new franchise for the company can be further examined. First month sales for UFC combined for only 278K copies which explains the price drop that went wide last week. THQ's UFC series took a nosedive following the first release in 2009 - something partially attributed to the lack of roster turnover, competition from high profile games, an...

Madden NFL 25 sold just over 1 million copies its first week on the market. That is down from 1.6 million that were moved for Madden NFL 13 in the same period and 1.9 million back with Madden NFL 10.  (more…)...
  • Sales for NCAA Football Down From Last Year
    Posted July 25th, 2013 at 9:30 am 21 Comments
Concern over the future of the college football series from EA Sports has not only stemmed from the likeness lawsuit or recent loss of NCAA licensing but also sales that have for the most part stagnated over the course of the generation rather than show growth as the install bases expanded. Then NCAA Football 13 opened down about 12% compared to NCAA 12. In this week's call with investors COO Peter Moore was asked about how well NCAA Football 14 has been doing since its release earlier this ...

  • Sales for MLB: The Show Continue to Slip
    Posted April 18th, 2013 at 7:00 pm 28 Comments
After peaking in sales with MLB 10 SCEA's The Show series has declined modestly every year since. Though it faces essentially no competition on the PS3 and the quality of the franchise in terms of reputation remains stellar, grumblings of a lack of advancement and questionable decisions like not offering demos have been heard and ultimately may have hurt. Perception could be altered with the PS4 offering next spring but the brand has taken a slight hit in the meantime even with MLB 13 being ...
  • The Three Top Selling Sports Games of 2012 Continued To Perform Well in January
    Posted February 16th, 2013 at 3:45 pm 8 Comments
With no significant new software releases in January the top 10 sales chart remained largely the same. Madden NFL 13, NBA 2K13, and FIFA 13 all placed again following their strong 2012 campaigns where they finished 2nd, 6th, and 10th respectively. Last month it was NBA 2K13 (4th) jumping ahead of Madden NFL 13 (5th) for the first time since October to no surprise given the NFL season was winding down. FIFA 13 (10th) has really settled into that spot. The biggest news sales-wise for Januar...
