Hancock received mix reaction from critics and moviegoers with the consensus seeming to be that the first half of the movie was great but the turn it took had the second half not as well regarded. Despite that the Will Smith movie pulled in $228 million domestically and a stunning $624 million worldwide. A sequel was inevitable however now director Peter Berg has stated that it is still a long ways off.

“There are so many cooks in that particular kitchen that are so busy and Will’s kind of taken time off to be with his kids and his kids are now making all kinds of films and there are so many people involved in that from Will to his partner James Lassiter to Akiva [Goldsmith] to Michael Man and myself,” Berg says. “To get us all in the same room where we can talk and then agree on anything? You’ll never meet a group of people who will have a harder time agreeing on anything. It’s like the Israeli peace process times a thousand in how tough it is for us all. But I think it will happen, we just all have to get in the same room with some consistency.”

Peter Berg quickly became one of my favorite directors. Films such as Friday Night Lights, The Rundown, and The Kingdom were great. He also adapted FNL to become a fantastic TV series. Berg is currently working on an adaptation of the board game Battleship which will be an event movie centering on Naval ships battling an alien invasion. Battleship sounds a little sketchy right now but it’ll be interesting to see how he pulls that all together for what could be an entertaining film to watch.
