NBC Plans Dwight Schrute Spin-Off

Though still doing admirably ratings wise The Office has seen a big drop in relevance and quality since the departure of Steve Carell. NBC currently plans to keep the series going into a ninth season in which they’ll phase out Rainn Wilson’s character of Dwight Schrute and transition him to a series of his own for mid-season 2013.
The proposed spinoff is a family comedy…and will have Dwight living at the Schrute family beet farm and bed & breakfast. The writers on The Office have been planting the seeds for a potential Dwight departure from Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton office.
It was a huge loss when Carell left and it’s hard to imagine The Office without him and Dwight. I’m not so sure a Dwight series will work either…he’s an entertaining character for others to play off of but in the lead role would likely grow tired.
