As revealed Wednesday on G4’s X-Play, Arkansas RB Darren McFadden will be the cover athlete for the 360 version of NCAA Football 08. We know that a mascot will be on the cover of the Wii version but that doesn’t explain why they were specific to him being on the cover of the 360 version. Given the developments it won’t be long before EA Sports issues the press release officially announcing this and likely detailing what is going on with the covers for the PS3 and PS2 versions. McFadden will be on today’s episode of X-Play in their “Facetime” segment. Update: More details on the cover situation and the first news about the game can be found here.

When I looked at the top potential cover athletes for this year McFadden was the most obvious choice with a few others like Chris Long, Matt Ryan, and Dennis Dixon trailing behind. McFadden was the highest rated player in NCAA 08 with a 99. Even though it doesn’t appear he will go #1 in the draft you have to look at the name recognition as well as his potential to make an immediate impact in his NFL rookie season (in the same way Adrian Peterson did). That makes for the ideal cover athlete for the NCAA Football series.

Good Choice. McFadden is the next OJ Simpson minus the off the field issues.

Ummmm – you might want to check the “off the field” issues comment. He has 3 kids (3 women), and from what a few scouts have referenced that’s not the most alarming aspect to his personality

Forget OJ Simpson, he could be next L. Phillips

EA may regret the choice ..

he hasnt done ne thing serious. people blow a lot of things out of proportion. I just hope EA doesn’t pull a Prizefighter, and only make it for the 360 and the wii.

Dude, I don’t know where you are getting your information from, but it’s not very accurate. First of all, the off field issues have been way overblown. DMAC is a very nice kid and a very humble person. The people who know him personally, and the pundits who have interviewed him can tell you that. He’s neither cocky nor arrogant. And he DOES NOT have three kids. One of the DNA tests have already come back negative. So that leaves two, and who’s to say those women aren’t a couple of gold diggers trying to cash in?

Lawrence Phillips… what a disaster. I started rooting AGAINST the Rams when they drafted that nutsack. To think they ultimately lost Bettis to get him… oiy.

Dont forget the 2 bar fights, the first in which he had to get surgery on his toe. He isnt Saint McFadden he is a punk, much like Lawrence was.

I tell you… I’d never want a guy like Phillips on a team… no matter how good (I wouldn’t even want Randy Moss). The Rams have the second pick in the draft this year. Luckily they have Steven Jackson. Even if they didn’t… hopefully they learned their lesson.

Like I said, get your facts straight. The first fight was when some crackhead was trying to steal his brother’s car. The second fight has yet to sorted out as to what happened. I never said McFadden was a saint, but he’s nowhere close to being Lawrence, Vick or Pacman.

My name is Jake, I’m from Magnolia, AR.

See, a lot of you don’t understand, most people are from states with proud heritage, as in sports and the like. Arkansas, not-so-much. Oh, Arkansas has plenty to bring to the table, but not in athletes, atleast not before Darren McFadden. I played D-Mac in our State playoff’s, after he single handedly beat us, (passed for two touchdowns, rushed for one, returned two pics for toucdowns, returned a punt, and a kickoff for touchdowns) the whole Magnolia team went to Oak Grove’s side and got an autograph, because it was apparent that he was special. My point is, Darren McFadden is a lot of things, but perhaps most importantly, a hero. He is Arkansas’ hero. The bar fight, back before his sophomore season. He walked out of a club with some of his friends, and there was a guy trying to steal his brothers car. His brother ran over there, and got jumped by a second man, so Darren joined the fight, helping his brother. Yet here you sit, ready to judge him by what you read on ESPN, or some other website. The only
character issues that people are concerned about, is that he went to Arkansas, a University that no one has ever taken seriously, atleast not since the early Sixties.
